As a person from Ontario that lives on a border with the US. Could we ask the US to work on drugs and guns coming into Canada. It’s a way bigger problem for us. Most gun crimes committed in Ontario are from illegal guns smuggled in from the states.

Once again what you people fail to grasp is that any and all illegal drugs or firearms crossing into Canada............not the USA.............is a direct result of OUR failure to halt these criminals in their tracks.............if WE...........Canada had a tougher and more guarded border more than likely this sort of thing would be lessoned...........unfortunately those responsible for bringing such into Canada are often smarter than our system allows and are very well organized and $$ changing hands is not to far fetched an idea either!!

Its a country's responsibility to control who is coming IN the country. Not to prevent them from leaving the country. Our part in the problem is that we have too many people coming in who are coming for the sole purpose of sneaking through the southern border. So technically you are correct. However it would be much less of a problem if we were a lot more discriminating in who we were letting in in the first place. The one truth in this debacle is that we need to live in the present and the nearly nonexistent border between the 2 countries secured by nothing but honourable intent is a relic of an age gone by.

We just had a case down here in Minnesota where an Indian family flew into Canada in the middle of winter, crossed illegally into the US to meet a human smuggler, and froze to death in subzero temps. That's not a US problem, but a US/Canada problem. Then there's the drug flow from Canada into the US, and the gun problem flowing into Canada. The Biden Admin coaxes people into the US with promises of free money and Canada aids by letting just about anyone in no questions asked. The open border has, sadly, become obsolete and it's time we looked at securing it for the safety of both countries

Also, we very much want to end getting oil from Venezuela and we can't do so without the XL. Which by the way, we are already gearing up on this side of the border to finish. Let Trump get elected and get rid of Trudeau. Don't get too excited by Our Tariffs, we are only going to insist on fair trade and no illegals, drugs or otherwise coming across your border.

I always thought USA is responsible to stop illegal migrants from Canada, and that Canada is responsible to stop migrants from USA. So I am wondering why migrants from Canada to USA is now Canada's responsibility. Why is the media not discussing the actual responsibilities and how it fits in with what Trump is saying we "must do"?

The problem with drugs in America is not the drugs coming in but the high demand for these drugs in America. If there was no demand there would be no supply. America should first look at itself as to how to stop their dependency on drugs rather than punishing other countries who are trying their best to stem the flow.

    • @bturner540

Most drugs were introduced by dealers hanging around schools and enticing young people before they could realize the danger. A lot of that sadly came from Mexico.

No denying America (and anybody else’s) drug problem is of their own doing. No demand, no supply. Be the biggest consumers in the world, have the largest problem. Don’t blame somebody else and put it on them to fix it without putting more of a solution in play yourself. Same with a border problem. Takes two on any border to make it good or bad…each side is accountable for what moves across.
