The Maxey deal worked out because he was willing to wait even though he came out later and said it was so hard. Sengun and Greens representation I’m sure we’re pushing for deals to be done now and Houston must have felt the risk involved was worth taking care of these guys now. Şengün simply deserved his contract, he is a star and a team focused player and also he plays spectacular old school basketball which makes NBA worth to watch again. But Houston must find a good shooter or else Alpi can get injured caused by teammates bad shooting empty running backs. If you don't find good shooter Houston there will be a problem.
We’ve brought in good shooters. FVV just had one of his best 3 point shooting seasons of his career and we just drafted Reed Sheppard who had more makes than misses from 3 in college. I don’t disagree that we still need more shooters but we are bringing them in.
The weak free agent class of twenty twenty five is what solidified the rocket's decision to sign both now. That and they are extremely deep and don't really have minutes for any free agents
I think majority of the reason why the financial structure of these contract extensions are towards a goal of team flexibility.. If you look at the numbers and look at the years of extension. it still fits a very solid timeline up to where its still at good tradeable value that gives them a good position if they want to trade for another star player or not. Im assuming 1. they will find a trade partner for fred in for 2025, 2. they will use some assets like Landale, Picks, some of their young core as great and attractive trade pieces. For now, their structure is built to test and push for playoffs as much as they can and adjust offseason according to needs...
As a rockets fan I’ll give you my thoughts on the contract extensions. With Jalen Green with him he pretty much betting on himself. If he goes out there and lives up to his potential after a few years he can hit free agency and get that super max contract. But during this contract he gets his money and he doesn’t have to worry about hitting restricted free agency. As for the rockets side Jalen Green has not deserved the max. Most Rockets fan know how inconsistent he has been the first three years of his career and it didn’t help he had a god awful coach in Slias his first two years and our organization was a dumpster fire during that time. Regardless of Jalen inconsistency the rockets still believe in his high upside. So they want to see if Jalen can be that guy he was at the end of the season consistently. If not then it’s no biggy the rockets can just use Jalen contract as a trade piece for a star level player not to mention we still have the Suns and some of the Nets picks left over. For Sengun flat out plain and simple he deserved the max he had a great year last year and he going to have a monster year this year. The rockets definitely view Sengun as a long term piece but I guess they wanted some cap relief since they didn’t give Sengun the full max. To come to the middle ground Sengun wanted to add the player option to his deal which is a risk on the rockets since he would be a free agency in 2029 meaning he going to be in the class with Ant, Tyrese Maxey and Halliburton and Quickley. Thats a good free agent class and if Sengun plays up to his potential multiple teams will definitely be after him. Regardless Sengun deserves it and we basically locked him up for five years and Jalen basically for two more years. With these deals it basically sets us up for possibly keeping the rest of our core together. So the future is very bright in H-Town
I mean they are probably committed to deck their guys in house. Realistically what free agent could they have signed that would’ve made them contenders or really move the needle for them in a big way?
I like this set of Houston extensions to a extent because Green got a three year extension which is cheap but also putting stakes on both sides but Sengun getting a big extension doesn’t make sense for right now even he probably deserves it but still
I think it would be a great video for you to do a deep dive on the Orlando magics future finances. They just gave out a ton of extensions recently and will have to give out some more soon.
They have much much more trade flexibility now. The 2025 free agency class is nothing special. But the trade market is so unpredictable every year. With VanVleet, they have 44M expiring deal to trade for a star on a max contract.
Do you think they jumped the gun because they wanted to test their compatibility one more time until they try to trade on of them in the future?? Or maybe (On Green’s side of this) this gives him a possible team/player friendly contract that can attract possible trade partners if things don’t go the Rockets way??
Your question was why extend Sengun now and not wait til next year and try to sign a free agent as well? Answer: THERE IS NO FREE AGENT NEXT YEAR WORTH GETTING. And just watch, Houston will still get a star player, Sengun contract was to keep, Green contract was to TRADE
I am more confused on why they gave them those deals when they dont seem fully committed to either. Now they are depending on those guys to rise up to those contracts in order to offload them where before they could have waited for a week free agency market and gotten better more team friendly deals on them. I am not saying they had to do that, but from a strictly financial point of view, I am confused why commit this much this early to these two guys which you considered trading both over the last couple of years
I think I understand why Houston did what they did. The West is stacked right now and management must feel the team won’t be ready to go all in next year and spend on a big free agent or trade for a star. May as well build something with the core they have for now and then revisit free agency later or making a big trade down the road
They still can go after a star without any problems. Hence why they signed both. There is no Star FA next Summer anyways. So for what do they need cap space in the 1st place? So IF a Star becomes available next summer it will be via trade. And then they have VanVleet on an expiring contract to match the salaries, tons of young talents to throw into the mix, as well as lots and lots of picks. Whatever the trade partner might want.
They don’t need a star. They need to grow this core. The way league is going, teams that been together a while have been winning the chip with their home grown talent. OKC ain’t going nowhere anytime soon. Player development is the name of the game for the Rockets.
What does a rookie max extension look like next year? How much Sengun would’ve signed that and made 50 mil or sum around there Instead he’s making 37 mil a year
If the rockets were a franchise like the lakers it may jave made sense to wait it out entirely and try to sign a free agent or 2 or move vanfleet and some picks for a star player then resign both of those guys. But its the rockets man and the free agent class looks like its gonna be shit. Overall probs better they resigned both and figure out what to do later.
In the event Giannis demands out next off-season, Houston just maximized their optionality with trade packages that can be specialized for Milwaukee (who would go into a rebuild without their own picks).
Why need cap space next summer there’s no one out there that move the needle for them Jalen Green and Dillion Brooks and their picks will get them a better haul than free agency so I think its a good move
We gotta chill on the extentions because if we dont have enough to sign Amen in the future that might solely require me to be prescribed antidepressants.
Rockets made a smart move by signing Sengun and Green this off-season. Almost certainly, one of the two will command a Max deal by next year. This locks them in on a lesser deal for a few years. The Max is only going to increase so even if these signings seemed high now (and they don't), in a couple years they will age very well.
I believe that Sengun is the reason why it went down like this. He probably wouldn't have accepted anything less and he wanted the contract now. He wanted certainty over a potentially great future team meanwhile the team wanted to lock him down.
Wait, the owner has “lost” the ability to go out and spend an additional $20 million next summer, and you don’t understand how that makes any sense? Sincerely, Not Tilman Fertitta laughing all the way to the bank Co-Signed, Not Fred Van Vleet with a small (but not complete) sigh of relief
in all your recent rockets videos you put way too much emphasis on that rumored KD trade, i doubt the rockets ever legitimately considered it and if they did Sengun wasn’t gonna be part of the deal
I am not sure why you are buidling that level of expectations for the rockets, it is just unrealistic. The West is absolutely stacked and sneaking into the play-in would be a huge success for the Rockets, more than that is very unlikely. Sengun has a lot of potential, sure, but i am very low on Green, even though the contract makes him at least not completely untradeable. Green did absolutely nothing to deserve a max extension, lets be honest, apart from a few little stretches he was a really bad player for most of his NBA career so far. Houston is still a few years away with this core, i think they have absolutely no shot to make a significant run in the west, i see a play-in loss as their ceiling.
Max contracts should be for all star players. All of these lottery range rookies getting paid max contract extensions by default is going to create a lot of mediocre teams. Teams are going to be stuck with no cap space to improve, and stuck with guys who are borderline bench players on an all star team, who are also getting paid like they are franchise players. Can't trade them because nobody wants to pick up your bad contracts. Can't win with them because they are not good enough, can't improve because you have no cap space to do anything meaningful in free agency, and are not bad enough to get a high lottery pick.
The Rockets need to go all in on a star and trade at least 2 of their core 7. They can’t afford to pay everyone and consolidating a couple of their young players with VanVleet or Brooks’ contracts makes sense. I would love to see them get Markkanen or Ingram, or if one of the Suns stars becomes available!
They need one more year to up the value of all their players before they can trade a couple. Jalen Green is on a good contract. I think Cam Whitmore will take his spot tho. Markkenin is a good choice tho.
@@Shortballa11 yeah I would wait until the 2025 offseason until more stars become available for trade. Giannis, KD, Booker could all be available and the Rockets have a compelling trade offer for all of those players.
@@chrismartinez9334 I lean towards waiting until the 2025 offseason to evaluate the value of their talented young stars. If Giannis, Booker, or KD become available, the Rockets have as good of a package as anyone to offer those teams for those superstar players.
I mean at this point nobody is really signing free agents away from teams. Everybody is just trading their players. Rockets now have a ton of picks and matching salary to try to get whoever they want. Plus a boatload of good young players
Recent reports show that Fred wants to stay with Houston so they wouldn’t have the cap space anyways and the rockets aren’t very good with him of the floor they struggle to run the offense without him so that’s why they went ahead and did the deals because Fred is staying with the team
So you expect the Rockets to be able to sign Jalen. Then keep Alperen unsigned. Then sign a from what it seems like a max free agent. Then resign players like Eason, Jabari, Whitmore, Thompson, and Sheppard? Your logic makes no sense. You can't do all of these things. The Rockets clearly showed that they want to try to keep the team together and give these young guys a chance. If you want to pivot you can package a few and like 5 1st round picks and a swap to get a top 20 player in the NBA.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rockets might considered holding off on those contracts extensions to give them more flexibility, saw the chemistry issues rising combined with a weak upcoming free agent class, and got cold feet
The Rockets should have negotiated with Sengun the same was the Sixers did to Maxi this off-season. Because Maxi didnt sign extension, the Sixers had the cap space to sign PG13. The Rockets should have dont the same to give them flexibility.
We have to give praise to players like lebron creating the blueprint on leveraging your skills to get the contract that you want even if your not as skilled
Houston is under relatively new ownership. The owner has only had this team for like the last 5 years. Players might not view Houston as a prime landing spot in free agency. The owner, might not perceive his market as a prime landing spot in free agency. So having a massive cap slot for free agency isn't as valuable for Houston, as it would be for LA, San Francisco, New York, or Boston. IDK who is up for free agency in 2025, but there might not be a whole lot of high quality free agents around. Houston had a ton of money last summer and over paid Fred Van Vleet. So even with the team looking to over pay, Free Van Vleet was the best player that they could land. Plus players and GM's kind of already know who is looking to move, and who is looking to stay beforehand. Houston may already know, that X amount of high quality guys will be out there, but maybe none of them are interested in going to Houston. Then you have to consider that Houston has a deep team with a lot of talent. They are in a bit of a similar situation as OKC. They might just like what they have. Why not take a chance with what you've got, over letting it go to maybe have a chance at someone else in a year? This team was bought for 2.2 billion dollars on the heels of the NBA's new TV deal which upped the value of teams. But did it really? There's actual value and then there is perceived value. The value of this deal hinged upon the collective bargaining agreement assuring that there wouldn't be a work stoppage. The teams got a nice chunk of change from that deal. But it didn't extend the size of arenas. The same amount of butts in seats and revenue from those butts is being generated. Houston isn't a huge market, the owner just paid a ton of money, and has been holding a lottery team for the last 2 years. That owner is probably being VERY cautious with his expenditures and I will be shocked if we see this team going far beyond the soft cap for it's payroll.

I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Sengun to decide on this. I think Sengun’s injury experience last season that could’ve ended his career made him to prioritize long term financial security a year earlier instead of challenging for max extension next offseason.
These are great moves by the Rockets. Those players that got Max don't deserve them and their teams will be hurt for those terrible deals. We’ve brought in good shooters. FVV just had one of his best 3 point shooting seasons of his career and we just drafted Reed Sheppard who had more makes than misses from 3 in college. I don’t disagree that we still need more shooters but we are bringing them in.
Great show and Go Rockets!!
Did we all get tricked into Tucker sneaking a clip show in on us? Very sneaky lol
Comprehensive comment here. I agree with these thoughts.
True. Stone did his thing!! Very bright future for the rockets
I mean they are probably committed to deck their guys in house. Realistically what free agent could they have signed that would’ve made them contenders or really move the needle for them in a big way?
I’m wondering if they did these deals to make them better trade pieces? I think they are still obviously interested in KD.
Nah. KD's window is now with booker. Too late for rockets to do that.
I like this set of Houston extensions to a extent because Green got a three year extension which is cheap but also putting stakes on both sides but Sengun getting a big extension doesn’t make sense for right now even he probably deserves it but still
I thought they were gonna wait like the 76ers with maxey to sign FAs
The internet went from saying we couldn't sign both to saying stuff like this bs 😂
I am not saying they had to do that, but from a strictly financial point of view, I am confused why commit this much this early to these two guys which you considered trading both over the last couple of years
They're boosting morale here I think.
big star coming to houston or money to pay our young bulls Amen Cam and Reed, either way its a win win
@@Smido83 hypothetically they could but I have a feeling they’re gonna play it safe based on the moves they’ve made
They don’t need a star. They need to grow this core. The way league is going, teams that been together a while have been winning the chip with their home grown talent. OKC ain’t going nowhere anytime soon. Player development is the name of the game for the Rockets.
@@treveonsmith7829 ideally it would be a mix of both
What does a rookie max extension look like next year? How much
Sengun would’ve signed that and made 50 mil or sum around there
Instead he’s making 37 mil a year
Sengun 11 rebounds in 1st qtr 😂🔥
If the rockets were a franchise like the lakers it may jave made sense to wait it out entirely and try to sign a free agent or 2 or move vanfleet and some picks for a star player then resign both of those guys.
But its the rockets man and the free agent class looks like its gonna be shit. Overall probs better they resigned both and figure out what to do later.
As long as Sengun is a top 2 player on a team, that team won't make the playoffs
One if the finest content on b-ball 🫡
Van Vleet, Jalen Green & all Suns 1st rounds picks they own for Booker
In the event Giannis demands out next off-season, Houston just maximized their optionality with trade packages that can be specialized for Milwaukee (who would go into a rebuild without their own picks).
He probably talked with Fred Vanvleet the man that once said bet on yourself.
Dude, you might wanna wait until after the deadline before recording a video. Both were signed before the deadline ended.
Dude, you might wanna wait until you watch the video before leaving a foolish comment. He details both contracts within the 10 min video.

@@cheesehead9555 Right?
This an L video Tucker
Why need cap space next summer there’s no one out there that move the needle for them Jalen Green and Dillion Brooks and their picks will get them a better haul than free agency so I think its a good move
We gotta chill on the extentions because if we dont have enough to sign Amen in the future that might solely require me to be prescribed antidepressants.
Perhaps the plan is trade FVV THIS season.
Or perhaps the overpay of FVV was a wink-wink to sign for a significant discount.
Great video, but where can I get that shirt?!? My mom’s would love that!
Sincerely,
Not Tilman Fertitta laughing all the way to the bank
Co-Signed,
Not Fred Van Vleet with a small (but not complete) sigh of relief
in all your recent rockets videos you put way too much emphasis on that rumored KD trade, i doubt the rockets ever legitimately considered it and if they did Sengun wasn’t gonna be part of the deal
Sengun is clearly the better player and he’s a big lmao
Yeah they r just gonna end up draining talent until they have to tank again
They need one more year to up the value of all their players before they can trade a couple. Jalen Green is on a good contract. I think Cam Whitmore will take his spot tho. Markkenin is a good choice tho.
Ok but which star would be impactful to winning right now ?
Here comes the rockets haters. They the same people counted us out around this time last season. And Still hating. Lol
Jalen+Alp's first two years under Silas were essentially two years in college, so the numbers kinda track
They're going to trade Jalen
Can you stop pre recording after something happened
The Rockets should have negotiated with Sengun the same was the Sixers did to Maxi this off-season. Because Maxi didnt sign extension, the Sixers had the cap space to sign PG13. The Rockets should have dont the same to give them flexibility.
isn't the Max cap going up a lot in 3 year
This team is loaded with good players though, not sure they need an upgrade from Fred when they have Reed coming up next.
Jalen green will win 7 rings
Senguin deal looks good, Green deal we will see
Sengun is their franchise they had to pay him the big bucks 💰
Bye bye Fred Van Fleet, just a rental
Your saying about Sengun shows you have no idea about the player, the team chemistry, where the Rockets are heading this year and so on. Stop making stupid videos like this one with your big mouth that does not say anything but spits out garbage.
Harsh words here but I agree.
this video didn’t age very well lol
Naw bro missed on this one.
Love seeing these contracts as a blazers fan cause all the sudden Grants contract ain’t looking like a huge overpay that clueless folks were crying about not understanding the new CBA and tv deal money coming.
The rockets believe that they already have everything that they need in-house.. that’s why they made these signings! Have you seen their roster ? 😂 Reed Sheppard , Eason, Thompson, Whitmore 😂 they’re not looking outside for help bruh 😂
It’s not notable to be a playoff contender in the west anymore lol, 12 or maybe even 13 of the 15 teams could feasibly make the playoffs
Great move common sense
I’m not sure that I’d have signed that contract if I’m Sengun. He’s arguably already worth like $45m a season, and I expect him to have his best season this year. In the long run he loses money. Unless he secretly decided he doesn’t like basketball anymore 🤷♂️
Thats why we love him, because sengun loves Houston n respects what’s the rockets are trying to accomplish !But I agree he deserves the max .
I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Sengun to decide on this. I think Sengun’s
injury experience last season that could’ve ended his career made him to prioritize long term financial security a year earlier instead of challenging for max extension next offseason.
Playoff contender? What does that mean?
At this rate, everyone's a playoff contender in the West.
