I love how much tight you’ve put into every detail & how calm you are explaining it, not like it’s a sprint. 😊 Thank you! Your land is beautiful & has me missing Northern MI!

Glad it was helpful! Gotta love the northern climates!

The two large doors are a great idea. Much easier for coop maintenance.

Additionally, you could put some more roofing material onto the nest box roof so you won’t have to worry about the rain on that. You could use a simple latch for securing it up and down. Overall, nice job with the set up for a run that isn’t being moved.

You’re correct. That nest box lid has underlayment on it now which really helps. I’ll use a more permanent solution after awhile

Lots of thoughts when into your design. Great coup. Consider white
FRP to cover the nesting box roof. It’s inexpensive and easy to work with. When the floor tarp wears out FRP would be a great replacement option.

Oh sure. I never thought about it. Thanks for the tip!

    Very nice design.

Well thought out. Lots of great ideas. One idea to add is to have the egg collection for drop down like a Carolina Coop then you can waterproof the upper piece plus it is less scary for the chickens when they are in the nest boxes because the current top opening reminds them of Arial predators

      Great tip!
I strongly considered that before building the nesting boxes. The chickens eventually get used to people opening up the top portion.

I wish we had thought to put the nesting boxes outside the fencing as you did. It would have made things a lot easier. ♥

Definitely. I was thinking about my kids while building that. I wouldn't want them running around the run collecting eggs, getting chicken manure on their shoes.

Really good video, id love to see updates here an there on the chickens. This is just what I was looking for. Im starting to think about how I’m going to set up my chicken coop when I’m ready.

I would have put hardware mesh on the bottom of the coop so the manure falls right through. No need for cleanup :) the only time you would have to clean it would be if the chickens scratch out their nest box material onto the wire. Then you can just spray it down every so often. Also you’re gonna want to block off your nest boxes at night so that they don’t roost in them (because they poop a lot at night) and have to clean that up very often.

This is our 4th flock. With our first 3 flocks, we used hardware cloth on the bottom of those coops. Those coops were also portable so it worked out better.
I purposely used a framed wooden floor on this coop because of security and cold winters here in WI. With our deep wood shavings and/or leaves, cleaning it out is no problem at all, as you saw in the video.

I really like this build and set up. Thinking about doing this very soon.

      Thanks.
I think you’ll really like how practical it is. Also more affordable than most coop designs.

@@togetherweharvest exactly. Affordable and functional. I always say, it doesn't have to be pretty, just needs to be functional. But you definitely have both!

@@togetherweharvest It's up to you. My coop roosts just sit in grooves and sometimes when cleaning, I can just pop them out to reach easier... but that's just my coop. Tally ho!

Im building my first chicken coop and i really like yours. Do you have written instructions and a supply list?

    • @togetherweharvest
      @togetherweharvest  3 месяца назад

I do not have either. Sorry.
I basically built this using all the left over pieces I could. The idea is that it’s 4x5 so the 6x6 roof has overhang and the posts are 2 feet high so the chickens can go underneath and you only need one 8ft 4x4 post.
