For my last video I filmed on August 14th, 2022, I decided to head over to this crossing and waited for about an hour for an eastbound Amtrak Downeaster bound for Brunswick, ME. As the train showed it was closer to approaching Saco/Biddeford Station, I began recording. The nearby wayside signal lit up and shortly after the crossing activated. Here we see an eastbound Amtrak Downeaster train come rolling through with the usual P42DC and NPCU on each ends, with a string of Amfleet coaches sandwiched in between.
This crossing is a great one, like many on the former Pan Am District 2 Mainline (which is now called the CSX Portland Subdivision). The crossing features some old WCH signals, installed in the late 1970s or early-mid 1980s by the late Boston & Maine or early Guilford Rail System. Only changes that have occurred ever since was sometime in 1999-2000, when the line received major upgrades in preparation for the introduction of Downeaster Service. The only upgrades the crossing received at the time was the replacement of the original WCH 8” lights with the current WCH 12x20” Clear LED lights. No other changes have occurred ever since thankfully, and hopefully it’ll stay that way years on under CSX.

Nice video and great K5LA! That WCH nechanical bell also has nice ring to it, but it sounds a bit weak.

CSX seems like they love getting rid of mechanical bells (like Whipple Streets mini bell) so I bet this bell will not be here for much longer.
