Hey, friends! This episode is more edited than I would like due to the copyrighted music that plays in the background. I'm hoping it won't be as big of an issue in episodes going forward, but please offer me a little grace as I work through it all this one had to be re-edited somewhere around 5 different times
The reveal trailer of every companion is epic! It was set right around the time of the explosion! They feel more like directors cut! And no bad romances in Inquisition, so do whatever you like and lead the romance to the path you prefer or destiny takes you to!
Varric's joke with Harding was him doing a lil play on the name of his super famous book series "Hard in Hightown"! So he was like "You'd be Harding in Hightown!" like a dork
Your commitment to roleplaying a spy when the entire rest of the game forgets that 5 seconds after it's brought up in the character creator is so funny and admirable tbh 😂😂
@_shhenanigans_ first 30 seconds alone! You'd think popular games nowadays would expand social options, and from this brief comment here, go all in on a player's chosen role option! I've heard of the legendary game, but really, the fun is in the small things! Just stopped by to say so! Happy gaming!
girl every time you look us in the eyes in the camera when you hear some juicy or interesting dialogue cracks me up,, makes me feel like we’re in a gossip sesh hahaha. glad you’re enjoying Solas so much - I wasn’t sure how you would feel about him, so it’s a relief to know you like his character!
Side note: If you want to know more about Cassandra's past, there's an animated film called "Dawn of the Seeker." To avoid spoilers, I'd wait until she's opened up to you a little more in-game, but it's a nice little extra, if you're interested.
1:38:47 oh I was waiting for you to hear the indomitable focus line, I knew you'll love it lol 🤣😁 but beyond flirting of any kid dialogues with him are just really well written and fascinating I am also such a nerd for all the lore and interesting facts he drops :)
Tip: If you feel you're getting bogged down in an area, feel free to leave it and look at one or two of the others. (More will open up later.) It's not necessary to do everything in one area, before moving on. You can always return and continue with all the little side quests and collectibles later. When the game was first released, a lot of players lost interest when they felt they were stuck in the Hinterlands. To avoid that, I'd suggest moving between areas quite often. They differ greatly in size, and I found the best way of appreciating the variety in the game was avoid lingering too long in any one.
I think a lot of it comes down to her political views and her being elitist, personally I quite like her it's a different style of a mage character which I appreciate. She isn't oppressed, she is thriving.
Hope youre keeping well Shan :) Love that hair color on you! I loved your reaction to Vivienne. Back in 2013/2014 when the promo was being done for this game, I wasn't part of any communities for DA, so I went into Inquisition completely blind. When Viv descended those stairs like a DIVA in my first playthrough I gasped LMAO! There is nothing I love more in video games/movies/tv shows etc than a fierce femme fatale Mage. Solas's conversations really are the best. I said it before in your first video, but the person that wrote Solas really is the best of the best. I can't even begin to imagine the kind of talent and creativity that is required to write something so beautiful. I strongly believe that when Inquisition won GOTY, Solas as a character contributed massively to that. Anyway enough fangirling over Mr.Egg lol! One last thing. I love that in Dragon Age 2 you used the same mod I did for Hawkes clothes in the house (those were Viviennes clothes btw haha!), and now in Inquisition you are using the same hair mod I used and the same starting outfit mod (the dalish robes). Style icons I fear! Take care, see you in part 3!
Omg stoooooopppppppp, I love that so much! Great minds think alike and we were twinning without even knowing it 🧡 I really really like Vivienne!! I don’t know how much I’ll agree with what she says, but I love that she’s challenges my perspective and opinions.
Inquisition did the best (by far) with companions and interaction imo. My only nitpick would be the over the shoulder dialogue camera, but it's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. Glad you're enjoying the game! It's a pretty big one if you plan to explore! Veilguard has me pining for the old Dragon age games so make sure you take it all in and enjoy it hopefully you can get the copyright stuff sorted, what a pain in the arse. EDIT: I had a feeling you were a Scorpio before you mentioned your little birthday break! It was your empathy, deep emotions and not taking sh*t that made it obvious 😄Pisces girly here 🐚💅
Hello, fellow water sign!! Someone else suggested a camera mod after reading your comment, so I’m going to look into it! And yes, I’m having such a good time! I loved loved loved the companions in DA2 and DAI feels like a surprise level up, because who knew it could get better?!?
Shan, I guess you probably already know this by now but after reading Asunder, you could go for The Masked Empire! I love that book too, it gives so much insight into Orlais, its royalty, and I absolutely enjoyed the writing by Patrick Weekes a lot! 🥰🥰 I don't know if it'll be possible for you to read it before some big events in this game regarding Orlais, which would be ideal... but even if you read it after, it'll make you see it all with other eyes.
Indira Varma, Viv's voice actress, has an incredible talent when it comes to portraying elegant, bold, powerful mages. She also voices Lady Allura in The Legend of Vox Machina with similar grace, I could listen to her playing characters like these for hours.
Viv is such a queen ! like you I may not agree with everyone she says but I don’t think you need to for the character to be interesting . so hype to see all ya reactions to certain things ☺️.
Ok few more tech advices :) - Don't worry about power... doing any quest, any side quest, even just closing rifts, it will all give you power. other than first episode or two you will always have way more power than enough power that you need in this game and you only need power to unlock new areas at war table really. and you dont need to be unlocking many areas at once anyway so you're all good on power it will come naturally :) you can even do those requisitions for power in each area that your requisition officer gives in camps, you but there's really no need. requisition officers are annoying and everyone hates them because they interrupt party banter 🤣🤣 - Tactics... as you noticed sadly classic tactics screen has been removed :( we now only have Behaviors screen and it can be confusing. Best way to set it is to go to each companion and set them to follow themselves. So under Solas set Follow: Solas, under Varric.. Follow: Varric, etc.... What that means is... in combat they will follow behavior best for their AI and class. so mages and ranged ppl will try to stay back and attack their best targets... warriors will chose to run forward and attack on their own etc. When they are set to follow "controlled character" instead of themselves, this means they follow you. so what ever enemy you attack they will try to do the same. this sound like a good thing but can often make their AI make stupid choices like ranged squishy companions rush in needlessly, it can also make warriors like Cass run confused from one enemy to another as you switch targets. so yeah setting everyone to follow themselves makes their AI perform best :) As for their mana/stamina reserve in the Behaviors screen you can set it to zero. this mean they will not hold any mana/stamina back and will use all their resources to cast more spells/abilities and more often. You would only want them to reserve mana/stamina and not use it all if you plan to control them a lot.. so they would reserve their mana for you so you can switch to them and cast their spells. but if you don't do that a lot and you play more in real time with your own character more you don't need it :)
Excellent advice all-around, as always. One thing I'd add that I didn't really realize for years is that, beyond the Tactics scene, disabling or favoriting skills for your companions in their skills screen can make a big difference in AI behavior for Rogues in particular. Best example: Varric comes with Caltrops as one of his first skills. If left on him and not disabled, he'll keep trying to get up close to drop Caltrops on people. In the opposite direction, putting the favorite star on Longshot when you get to it will make him more likely to try to keep as much distance as possible for that ability's bonuses at range. This will also work for any other Rogue companions set up as archers.
Hey there! I finally managed to join the community :) I personally love the Hinterlands XD once you get the hang of which area(s) to avoid when low-level... (bears T.T) I'm always torn about Mother Giselle. She's definitely got good intentions, but there will be something in the future that always sours my good impression of her... (no, it's not like a big twist and she won't be evil XD)
Glad you’re here!! I don’t know if I’ve spent enough time in the hinterlands to love or hate it, but I could def see how others and myself could get burnt out if I just went quest to quest to quest. There’s so much to do there
If you press the right Analog stick in during combat, you can lock onto targets (the name of the enemy plus their health bar appears large at the top of the screen). It also makes in easier to flit between targets 😊 hope that helps! ❤
I always look forward to your videos. Youre my favorite let's player your vibe is so uplifting and wholesome and cute 😁 im so happy you are loving dragon age this much
Funny you mentioned regretting that Cassandra is not romancable (romanceable? idk) for a female character, because a similar thing happened to me - my first character was a man and I regretted it later, because my favorite companion prefers women (you'll meet her later). And because of that I later replayed as a woman.
When I saw the war with the templars going rogue and apostates killing each other, with all the notes spread in the Hinterlands, I was so angry, like "Anders look what you have done!! Look at this mess!!" despair. Anders what have you DONE?! anger. btw I killed Anders despite romancing him, in DA2 so... :D oh my heart loves being broken over and over I really like your reaction to Mother Gisele and Vivienne! It's such a nice breeze. They both are very opiniated and cunning women and the fandom's reaction to them are often times jaded. Their cunning are exactly why people often dislike them, I think because they are tactful and less "emotional" in their actions so people can't "read" their "real emotions" and feel "cheated". I too, lament how we cant romance Cassandra as a woman. She's just such a good character and a good person in and out... I love her so much too. Please do get close to her and you will love her even more. Rather, please do get close with everyone. Cullen, Leliana... They will give you so much insight. Why they become who they are, why they do what they do, and so on. I love how everything in Inquisition, like Mother Gisele's presence for example, makes you reconsider or at least think about "Faith". This game is so beautiful, it can be taken at face value and simply a fun game to play, but you may read between the many lines and see the intricacies of the writings that again and again ask you, "what do you believe?"
Hinterlands, the way I love and hate this area... "I wonder how often I will use Fade Step?" All the time. I mean it, All. The. Time. Fade Step is The number 1 spell for all mages in Inquisition lolol True Inquisition experience, we jumping everywhere, no walking, no running, only monke jumping lolol The landmarks are just part of the collections, they give you a little power experience, but you don't have to go out of your way to get them. I'm sorry the copyright issues are bullying you! Don't worry about the side quests, none of them are so important, the main quest and party banter and your reactions to them is probably what interests people most. I like mother Giselle, but she is still too conservative for my taste. And something else that is spoilers (no, she isn't the big bad evil lololol), but not everyone finds it as offensive as I do lol Vivienne is a woman who knows what she wants and is willing to do a lot to get exactly what she wants. I love her, but damn does she hate everything my Inquisitor does lololol I'm laughing at how you're falling for Solas lololol everyone has their favourite romances, but solasmancers can get intense (for deserved spoiler reasons lolol). But I get it, the egg is fascinating lolol
I also have the same love/hate relationship with the Hinterlands haha. I don't know if it's because when I first played DA2 I wasn't totally obsessed like I was with Origins, so the wait for the next DA game to fall inlove with felt much longer(at the time, I love DA2 now). Perhaps it was my ridiculous overexcitement that made me look past how overbloated/overwhelming the Hinterlands is, or well atleast known for. I get it now ofc (and kinda avoid it as much as poss in new playthroughs), but you couldn't tell me nuthin back then :P
I must be one of the really rare weirdos that really likes Hinterlands. I usually clear out all of it 100% before moving on to Val Royeaux or anywhere else. I just think it's pretty and fun to explore. when I say this most ppl look at me like I'm insane 🤣🤣🤣 And I agree fade step is such essential skill especially if you get upgrade for it to chill/damage enemies as you pass through them 👍 Fade Step and Dispel, most useful and often most overlooked spells :)
@@mayaamis I'm a completionist at heart so I can't open an area and not do everything in it in one go lolol so I'm always super over leveled when I hop into Val Royeaux, and nothing kills me inside more than knowing I have to wait until later to come back and finish the area because it's locked behind progression or something similar lolol
@@trashtv6138 lol I still can't not 100% every area on first trip if possible. I think it's so I can avoid having to come back multiple times. gotta file it neatly away from the to do list so I don't overwhelm myself with how much stuff there is to be done lol
@@NinaRaw Wow that's some great dedication! How often would you say you've played the game? I remember my first few playthroughs, I got 100% on everything everytime. These days though I mainly just focus the things I like and skip the rest. (Love that Layla is your picture btw, Queen of shields. She supports my Lyney wonderfully whilst I wait for ZhongLi ☺️)
At 47 mark there's a conversation being had that you could be involved in and I believe if you press the right or left stick in it'll give you conversation options
@ yeah I was super irritated because I knew there had to be a way to interact since the chat wheel was visible. I either asked on a forum or just mashed buttons till I figured it out lol
You have to clear the main mage camp and the main templer camp, and you were so close to the main templer camp that I was like rats! They will respawn constantly until you take those out.
You should watch the Dragon Age Movie Dawn Of The Seekers if you really want the full context of Cassandra's story and Divine Justina. Its an one hour movie you can watch it on RUclips for free. It's not the best movie ever but a must watch for lore purposes.
Is that Vivienne in the thumbnail? I completely missed her 😂! I do not have her in my game, I think I missed her or my game glitched. I really hope there’s a way to get her again or a mod or something. I don’t love her, but she’s interesting. And I have a feeling I’ll want her for something
Also, would you ever consider making a post or a video listing the mods you’ve used in your Dragon Age games? You have so many good ones it’s hard to keep track of them all 😂
Just for a bit of background the Chantry is inspired by the Catholic Church, but with women as priests instead of men, so the super annoying chancellor although a member of the Chantry is not a priest and so cannot become Divine. The Divine is basically Thedas Pope, and like the Pope is elected by the High Clerics/Cardinals irl in a Conclave.
I can see how that could be a great experience if I were playing on my own. But with recording it and only having so much set time to record, you really do have to go in with some kind of plan as listless wandering would not be the best for me to record or you all to watch.
@@_shhenanigans_ totally understandable. In my opinion the most important quests to do in Hinterlands are those that stabilize the area. so taking out main mages and templar camps, so they stop respawning and fighting in the areas. Getting the refuges supplies and food. And getting horses for the Inquisition. Everything else is optional. even the closing of rifts you can come back to do later, or do do the ones that are closest to you. or even do it of screen. since you will be returning at least for Solas's artifacts and Varric's lyrium stuff..
@ Mostly it’s just de-discouragement b/c some folks do it like DA2 where you turn in every quest back in Kirkwall and that truly can be tedious :) The quests you receive guide you in certain places and then just pick a direction toward a next camp (since you have no fog.) But again that might be exactly the kind of plan you would have in any case! Hinterlands is a fun area
21:13 Befriend Cassandra and you will see a side to her I bet you never expected to see. In Inquisition sadly, approval only affects how early you get their companion quest(s) and if it gets too low, they will leave. 1:08:12 It's not necessarily a mean nickname, it could be, depending on said person's personality. I expect it's supposed to mean 'The Iron Lady,' assuming of course the word for iron, ferrum in Latin, translates to Thedas. However, I've seen Vivienne atop plenty of people's list of hated companions. I myself am fond of her, but I suspect it's mostly because I have something of a crush on Indira Varma, Vivienne's voice actor.
So approval doesn’t matter for friendship?! Do I just need to exhaust their dialogue wheel then? I really like Vivienne and am kind of surprised so many dislike her!
@_shhenanigans_ she's a really good character, I won't say much but she has many opinions that a lot of players disagree with, but you will find all that out later and form your own opinions.
Sorry, approval does matter for friendship, however there's no attribute benefit like in Origins. Like how high approval with Alistair would increase his strength
Couple of things....for all that is holy PLEASE USE YOUR MOUNT, u were given one by the horsemaster & hardness level doesn't really effect your opponents I mean it does bur not as much as you think it EFFECTS EXP & LOOT from enemies, & you MUST READ YOUR CODEXES
No 💁♀️. Party banter doesn’t trigger with a mount. Also, how about you play the way YOU like to play and I’ll play the way I like to play? Cool? Cool. 🤝
@@_shhenanigans_ Oh yeah gorgeous and there's many who do agree with her and they're not entirely wrong, it's just me an Anders would get on like a Chantry on Fire, me and Vivienne absolutely not.
@@Shadowpack95 I was the exact opposite, I had max rivalry with Anders and killed him at the end, got on quite well with Vivienne. It really just depends on the character and the person playing.
Similarly to the Pope who can only be men. The Divine can only be a woman, so that chancellor, never was or will be in the running. (The Black Divine in Tervinter is male, but that isn’t relevant here)
So Solas is a Somniari like Feynriel is, only Solas has much more control and experience with the gift, maybe his friendships with Friendly Spirits helped here. meanwhile Feynriel grew up under Chantry rule that enforce the belief that all denizens of the Fade are demons and want nothing more than to possess him, so he lived in fear of the Fade
8:54 that is a blatant lie if I've ever heard one, the first two games and the inbetween books make it clear that The Chantry espouses fear and distrust of Magic and Mages and blame it for all the evils of the World
My personal hatred of mages aside, Viv is probably the only one i like. She knows that mages are monsters that need to be caged, and she knows that the templars are right.

The. Time. Fade Step is The number 1 spell for all mages in Inquisition lolol
True Inquisition experience, we jumping everywhere, no walking, no running, only monke jumping lolol
The landmarks are just part of the collections, they give you a little power experience, but you don't have to go out of your way to get them.
I'm sorry the copyright issues are bullying you! Don't worry about the side quests, none of them are so important, the main quest and party banter and your reactions to them is probably what interests people most.
I like mother Giselle, but she is still too conservative for my taste. And something else that is spoilers (no, she isn't the big bad evil lololol), but not everyone finds it as offensive as I do lol
Vivienne is a woman who knows what she wants and is willing to do a lot to get exactly what she wants. I love her, but damn does she hate everything my Inquisitor does lololol
I'm laughing at how you're falling for Solas lololol everyone has their favourite romances, but solasmancers can get intense (for deserved spoiler reasons lolol).
I just think it's pretty and fun to explore. when I say this most ppl look at me like I'm insane 🤣🤣🤣
And I agree fade step is such essential skill especially if you get upgrade for it to chill/damage enemies as you pass through them 👍 Fade Step and Dispel, most useful and often most overlooked spells :)
I was so confused because there were chat bubbles but nothing to show I could click on them 😭
@ yeah I was super irritated because I knew there had to be a way to interact since the chat wheel was visible. I either asked on a forum or just mashed buttons till I figured it out lol
1:40:12 this is probably exactly what Threnn experienced and why she is such a Loghain fan
I can get behind a lot of things, but being a Loghain fan is not one of them 🤣. Threnn is on the naughty list until further notice
It is! It’s what she was wearing when I first met her! She’s so glamorous 🥰😍 and oh no! Maybe the messenger is still there in orlais?
@ I hope so! That’s the first thing I’m doing when I play again
Black Emporium is DLC; which can have spoilers for mid/late game events. But anywhere that isn't DLC is fine look at as it shows up.
Conntact your clan on the map they may need your help
I’m afraid to touch that side of the map because I might accidentally click on the black emporium 🤣
@@_shhenanigans_ you won't it will pop up what you are clicking on don't worry
26:46 I hate the respawning enemies in this game. It makes the wandering around bits of open worlds even worse
Also, would you ever consider making a post or a video listing the mods you’ve used in your Dragon Age games? You have so many good ones it’s hard to keep track of them all 😂
Oh, I can for sure do that! It would be pretty easy
The Hinterlands is best experienced exploring, just avoid the trap of doing one quest at a time.
It's been a long time since I played inquisition but I never realised Indira Varma was Vivienne's VA.
Cool? Cool. 🤝
& oh good god USE YOUR PINGER ....LEFT STICK DEPRESS USES IT!!!!!
Makers balls, you gotta calm down. you’re havin a lil fit over here. You good?
Ah Vivienne, she's a great character that i personally dislike and disagree with and its wonderful to disagree with her.
Yea, I don’t know if I’ll agree with her all the time but she is fascinating. And beautiful
@@Kevc00 And there's nothing wrong with that, Vivienne is not evil or even malicious. She's just her and unapologetically so.
I sprinted from Inquisition to Veilguard and now i want to sprint back
Similarly to the Pope who can only be men. The Divine can only be a woman, so that chancellor, never was or will be in the running.
(The Black Divine in Tervinter is male, but that isn’t relevant here)
You have the most beautiful Heart and soul ❤️ 💛 💖
Black emporium should be ok after act 1
Good to know!!
8:54 that is a blatant lie if I've ever heard one, the first two games and the inbetween books make it clear that The Chantry espouses fear and distrust of Magic and Mages and blame it for all the evils of the World
Vivienne is probably one of Bioware worst companion for me. She’s such a freaking hypocrite.
Agreed, I like all the companions in inquisition except her, hated her guts and she's so annoying
Viv sucks. Worst Bioware character of all time for me. Even worse than Ashley from Mass Effect.
This is such a boring comment.
@@_shhenanigans_right?! I love viv ❤
My personal hatred of mages aside, Viv is probably the only one i like. She knows that mages are monsters that need to be caged, and she knows that the templars are right.
Finally we agree on something - liking Viv!
