An armed civilian in a combat zone is a partisan and gets none of the protections of either civilians nor regular troops. Doesn't even fall under the protections of prisoners of war.

In two campaign missions that are linked to eachother, a M1A2 Abrams is featured in both missions and has the same callsign.

In the aptly named mission "War Pig", you escort it through a town heavily guarded by enemy militia.
Fun fact: both of the maps used in the campaign ended up in the multiplayer, with "The Bog" being the map "Bog" and "War Pig" being a mix of "Bog" and one of the most popular maps "Crossfire".

Cannister is still the best in this situation. Pink Mist maker at point blank range.
