I'm an old gamer. for me computer RPGs started maturing with Neverwinter Nights. not just a hollow adventure of a generic barbarian/knight/mage swinging a blade or hurling spells to complete a quest. the way the story was handled was more personal to the player. and I will always remember Aribeth de Tylmarande. after that games got more real. more in depth. more branching stories. culminating with gems like mass effect, DAO (just to mention some) and now I'm finding out that the people behind the games I consider the true pinnacle of RPGs are making a space opera? H3LL Yeah!! go wild guys and makes us believe again that the genre can recover! best of luck!
@@Jabarri74 I did both XD (and don't worry no offense taken) but the story in NWN felt a little (not by much.. but) more player focused. a little more personal. if I was putting in old tabletop perspective. Baldurs gate felt more like a typical friday night D&D session. you know get a group and hack and slash your way to the objective. NWN was doing it's best to be like WoD. a little more roleplaying in the mix of the hack and slash. trying to put you in a more "personal" situation. just adding romance options was leaps and bounds on BG1. if I recalled correctly you could flirt in BG1, but nothing came out of it. so at least for me, it felt more... common (not bad), but nothing out of the ordinary from my D&D sessions lol that's why I said it started to mature on NWN ;)

@@mirceazaharia2094 I think relativistic travel can be done well to convey the vastness of a setting. I really like House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds, where relativistic trips are usually "casual" (people use suspended animation a lot there). You also stumbled on one of the advantages of not including FTL. The emotional impact. The massive, massive stakes that characters roll the dice on every time they accelerate to 99.9% c. Every decision matters. Every sacrifice is so much greater.
Take that Bioware ! This is how a proper trailer and game is suppose to look like. Bioware became a big disappointment for me in the last years, but this...that "I love You" line gave me tears. Everything is so beautiful about this game, can't wait for it to have a release date. I love this trailer!
i remember the first time i heard of this franchise i didn't think much of it and dismissed it. yesterday i just happened to click on another youtuber's video explaining the setting and now i'm a very big fan. will keep close watch on this franchise. it has the potential to be absolutely massive.
Same here! When I saw the first announcement on the Game Awards I wasn't to impressed. Now since I've been learning more about the lore I've been hooked. My favorite thing I learned so far is about the Celestials. Its a interesting concept to me that Humans separated by thousands of years evolve into various different Transhuman species to the point they consider regular Humans to be primitive. This is a cool concept to me.
@@NRV0 It wasn't done naturally, some (most) Celestials species aren't even mammals anymore (at least, in the book, the Celestials of the Crown dominions aren't). There's also "Changelings" which are species of humans transformed by the Celestials to serve them. They dipped a bit too much into eugenics and DNA alterations, and use their children to pass down their memory and personality and virtually live forever. So it's fair to consider them different species, even if they didn't evolve naturally for 40 thousands of years. Because they have a common ancestor doesn't mean anything anymore and Sol's humans are indeed primitive in comparison.
I was doom scrolling about Veilguard when some youtuber said there's hope for the future but not with Bioware, he mentioned this IP and honestly I'm already sold, though I do hope the gameplay is at least as good as ME2, definitely feel this will be a more narratively focused RPG series and I'm 💯 down for that so long as the gameplay is fun too.
This looks fantastic! The only thing worrying me is that Archetype Entertainment is a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast. If any company could suck the fun out of an IP, while simultaneously trying to suck as much money as possible from us, it would be Wotc :(

Looks quite interesting. Time dilatation effects from travelling too fast in space as part of the story bulding is nice. Usually space scifi games always find some scifi explanation for FTL travel not causing this.

Always remember guys, it pays to be a patient gamer. Don't let fancy trailers and hype suck you in. Be cautious.
True, but the credentials behind this game are amazing. James Ohlen, lead designer for Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age Origins; Drew Karpyshyn, lead writer for Mass Effect 1 & 2; and Peter F. Hamilton, author of the Commonwealth Saga and the Void Trilogy, as a lead consultant for world-building and backstory creation. They Also hace full creative control on every aspect of the game, including release. This game is probably out in 2025 at earliest
@@tutepr107True, but it‘s 2024 and despite all good intentions, if the studio puts shakles on you to produce Abgabe for a new audience, you never know.
@@Dieter-Doeddel "full creative control"
Ok mom
Wizards of the Coast is also one of the most disgusting companies. I'm surprised they didn't force the actual good guys from old Bioware to make the black characters hideous. They are surprisingly good looking with good voice acting behind.
Its a shame full trailer wasnt shown at TGA - makes so much more sense in full version
I blame Geoff Keighley
I got it! Nowhere is said she died old! All memorials depict her as a young girl! It means she died OR DISAPPEARED at young age!
That's why I think she jumped through the gates to follow him in time!
If is that the case, the Personal quest for this character must be about finding her somewhere in the galaxy.
@@rosesareredbutzerglingssti9290 so it's her story, like the Witcher 3 is Ciri's story then. Which is fine
@@DartNooboapparently the guy we see here is just a Companion not even the main character so not really a 1:1 comparison. But think about it, a companion with this well written of a backstory, if all the companions have similar story writing this game is about to be PEAK.
@@HassanSabbaku the story here was pretty basic, though. Not necessarily a bad thing, since Mass Effect 1 also had a pretty basic story if you look close. Presentation was the key and it is great here as well
@@DartNoobo sure the story was basic but the dialogue is what's important and the fact so many people were instantly gripped by it is proof the game has at the very least a solid foundation.
Genuinely started tearing up when he was watching that replay... great cinematic animation in that moment.
OG People from BioWares peak with ME ? Im quite sold already.
Made me really tear up when he cried after she said she loves him.
Please keep the same quality and voice acting throughout the game. It was amazing.
5 minutes. FIVE MINUTES! of real people. real emotions. real dilaog. and seriousness. Old bioware knew whats up.
Wish Dragon Age Veilguard had anything on this level.
Andromeda too.
At first I thought it was her under that hood and trying to access her escape pod. A living legend coming back from beyond the grave.
One thing is for sure, the characters in this game most likely will not be space idiots who were launched into deep space like in Andromeda. A very intriguing project... I hope old Drew won't let you down...
I think I've rarely been that hyped for a game. There are little bits of mass effect, some bits of the Expanse. Please take your time and hit the spot
This could be what Starfield wanted to be. BioWare had Dragon Age and Mass Effect and 343 under Bungie was HALO. I hope EXODUS releases in a reasonable time frame.
The reasonable timeframe is when its completely and entirely finished.
@@Stargazzer811 Exactly. No one here needs another unfinished game that just got unfinished to sell DLCs and microtransactions. Let Archetype Entertainment finish its job in peace, shall we?
@@rosesareredbutzerglingssti9290 I'm glad someone here understands. Also, yes, only the non-Feral Zerglings are purple. I need to play SC2 again someday.
not really since they both have completely different design choices
I'm an old gamer. for me computer RPGs started maturing with Neverwinter Nights.
not just a hollow adventure of a generic barbarian/knight/mage swinging a blade or hurling spells to complete a quest.
the way the story was handled was more personal to the player. and I will always remember Aribeth de Tylmarande.
after that games got more real. more in depth. more branching stories. culminating with gems like mass effect, DAO (just to mention some)
and now I'm finding out that the people behind the games I consider the true pinnacle of RPGs are making a space opera?
H3LL Yeah!!
go wild guys and makes us believe again that the genre can recover!
best of luck!
Not saying you're wrong or anything but the original Baldurs gate came out in 1998 4 years before NWN. I guess you'd only know if you played both?
@@Jabarri74 I did both XD (and don't worry no offense taken)
but the story in NWN felt a little (not by much.. but) more player focused. a little more personal.
if I was putting in old tabletop perspective. Baldurs gate felt more like a typical friday night D&D session.
you know get a group and hack and slash your way to the objective.
NWN was doing it's best to be like WoD. a little more roleplaying in the mix of the hack and slash.
trying to put you in a more "personal" situation. just adding romance options was leaps and bounds on BG1.
if I recalled correctly you could flirt in BG1, but nothing came out of it.
so at least for me, it felt more... common (not bad), but nothing out of the ordinary from my D&D sessions lol
that's why I said it started to mature on NWN ;)
@@carlosmeza4478 I preferred NWN over Baldurs gate as it was more action focused, Baldurs gate had a lot of seemingly dull interactions
@@Jabarri74 I guess I was too used to dnd. so I was used to the usual lockpick this, talk to that. to the point they seemed ordinary to me XD
@@carlosmeza4478 You remember pools of radiance in 88?
i've been waiting for this ever since you guys were founded. GOOSEBUMPS!!!!
Is no one going to talk about that grenade. It's such a cool animation and its so much detail for a thing that is like 2 seconds on screen.
The trailer has left me utterly overwhelmed, moved to tears. The soundtrack is amazing! I really loved the "ultimate sacrifice" about it. :)
When she said the data structire is dense, this is it... I love the sound that is heard as she reaches for it... @1:15
I definetly feel 'The Forever War' vibes of Joe Haldeman. The trailer is truly stunning!
I got that on my awaiting to read pile. :L
Thanks to the comments for making me watch the whole thing, I was spinning through it short on time but everyone was talking about the raw emotion so I watched it all and hot damn they weren't lying. Gonna give this game all my support since the creator was behind some of the best games I've ever played.
You can totally tell this has Mass Effect DNA in it, and honestly I'm all for it. Makes sense when this is done by a bunch of former Bioware people.
I am definetly hopping on this train. I still love ME1,2,3 so much till this day. Those games aged like fine wine.
Hell yes i want more scifi from that team!!
A space opera without FTL? I love it! Moments pass for the character while, decades pass for his love interest. Near complete time dilation!!!!
I really dislike relativistic FTL. It makes me sad to think of the vast distances of space but also time separating planets, cultures and people.
Give me warp drives, worm holes or hyperdrives or sod off. The only such universe I can even tolerate is RimWorld.
@@mirceazaharia2094
I think relativistic travel can be done well to convey the vastness of a setting.
Maybe FAL: Fast As Light.
@@haydennoble9253 NAFAL, Nearly As Fast As Light. Sounds cooler, slightly more accurate.
@@hyperdude144 they go 99.999% of light speed with half a million G acceleration from the top of my head. It's in the books.
Gives me the chills like the best of Mass Effect. Super super excited. With so many bits of information shown, release is not too far away I hope.
This looks fantastic! The only thing worrying me is that Archetype Entertainment is a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast. If any company could suck the fun out of an IP, while simultaneously trying to suck as much money as possible from us, it would be Wotc :(
BRB crying 😭😭😭 This was an epic trailer!!
Yeah okay, i'm sold.
Hey, I found Mr. Hulthen down here! Cool, I'm sold as well.
My wallet already spent before i decided. 😂
Dude I'm crying 😢
Please lead us in an exodus from the recent, ridiculous, "body type" conventions in gaming and return us to the science of male and female that coherent fiction stems from.
I usually avoid trailers, especially long trailers (it's a thing of mine), also because I get bored very fast, but this managed to took my total attention for the entire video, 5 minutes passed in a second, I loved that
Tom deserves a statue too. This looks promising
As a Mass Effect veteran, been around since the start..... this jerked a few tears and made me smile. I cant imagine a way to make this trailer better, you absolutely nailed it. I joined the founders program, and can't wait to be among the first to try this game out. See you out there.
Wow, wow wow wow wow. As others have said, there are never too many sci-fi games, and hearing it's led by a Mass Effect veteran makes me hopeful for great things to come.
Like most these days, I am cautiously optimistic. Trailer looks good. Knowing who's behind this game is what kept my attention long enough to absorb a taste of this environment. Simple and alternative. Please take the time you need and let the passion flow !!
If I'm tearing-up during the trailer, and you have some Mass Effect stink on you, there's only one more thing to say. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!
Made by a lot of the same people.
Maybe don’t be retarded and wait for actual game footage?
The team behind this game is incredible! I really hope this turns out to be a great game, become classic and become a financial success, so they can continue this great work!
Just wow! looks promising, can't wait for the release.
Amazing trailer. James and Drew are cooking something special, I hope this dev team will succeed 🙏
Looks quite interesting. Time dilatation effects from travelling too fast in space as part of the story bulding is nice. Usually space scifi games always find some scifi explanation for FTL travel not causing this.
Because the time scale grows to be massive without FTL travel.
One of the rare trailers that you can watch all over again, i hope the game can keep up, make it work.
This might be the best story trailer for a game I've ever seen
As a Mass Effect fan this looks great, interested to see how it progresses
As someone who's not a fan, I hope that the Mass Effect fandom gets a good game out of this.

In this dark times - when games are HALF BAKED - STUDIOS ARE GREEDY - make this a GR8 game 🙏 Those few minutes has all it takes.
This single trailer has more "soul" in it than the entirety of the AAA gaming franchise in the last 5 years!
Okay, this is giving me major Mass Effect vibes, yet a different vibe. I am excited for it's arrival.
Made by many of the same people.
No one going to talk about how sick that homing grenade was?
Very emotionally moving trailer. If this is the type of storyline and emotional depth the game will have, boy we are in for a treat!
Seeing that this will be complemented by two novels by none other than Peter F. Hamilton makes me so excited! Even if the game should turn out to be a bust (which I really don't hope) there will always be his words to cling on to and emerge yourself in.
This trailer is what shepard would deserve
I would like to play this, to watch in a movie theatre, or to live it. That was a piece of cinematic brilliance. Awesome job. Looking forward !
Since this is literally old school Bioware staff u can't tell me this isnt a challenge to mass effect. I hope this is the next great Sci fi IP. Hopefully they make companions lifelike
They made light speed an astronomical feat, in Mass effect travelling across the galaxy felt so small when in reality it is so vast, 400 billion stars vast.
It‘s actually wizards of the coast and hasbro owning that studio, so expect them to interfere and make it a crapfest.
@@Dieter-Doeddel They can't interfere, due to the agreement made with the CEO of Archetype Entertainment.
@@DaCookyooker at the very least they won't interfere with this game, future games in this franchise(supposing it's successful, and I genuinely hope it will be) won't be as safe, but let's hope for the best, the future does look bright.
Very cool! Now THAT is how you make a trailer. It even made me emotional. Great job.
An amazing trailer! You have the beginnings of a SCI-FI series that would eclipse The Expanse if it was ever made into a show! I can imagine it now, using some of the filming techniques in the Mandalorian. Just wow.
The first three seasons of The Expanse were great. Season 4 was OK, seasons 5 and 6 were pretty dull.
3:42 WOW! I never, ever, been more emotionally invested in a game trailer!!!! Brilliant!
Damn my hype just went through the roof when I found out the character we see being portrayed here is just one of our companions, and this is like some kind of his backstory. Exodus just spiked to #1 on my most anticipated list!! I am a Founder, please release this soon as you already have a fully working alpha running on the PS5
I expect we'll get trailers for the other three as well. The robot guy seems really interesting and I think the girl is an awakened.
Thye footages were pre alpha, basically a tech demo. It will take a long time before release, no way less than a year, probably more.
I don't get hyped anymore, but this looks like it has real potential.
This looks amazing. Almost a spin of Mass Effect & possibly some Halo in ways. Really looking forward to it. Especially if they can get the gameplay down pat.
Ex bioware devs going to the stars with this game. The original mass effect crew
This flew completely under my radar. Didn't see the trailer before now, but I heard this is supposedly being developed by an independant team, mostly consisting of people that made the old Mass Effect game. I went into the trailer with that knowledge and man, you can immediately feel that. I'm constantly waiting for the mext Mass Effect game, but that is a completely different team and it's owned by EA. That has never really filled me with much confidence, but it's all I had, until now. I'm already more excited for this than whatever dumpsterfire is almost certainly going to be released by EA. Is there any release date yet?
Man that was so good. 4:00. Even the trailer made me feel connected.
Drew is back! And I am all in for this..
Knowing that you are the ones who gave us the glorious Mass Effect, I am going to play it with the same love, interest, expectation, admiration and fascination.
Great work team bringing the cinematic to this height! This franchise will grow beyond!
Im hooked by the soundtrack
I'm not crying. You're crying. How did I not know about this before today? (Oct. 2024.) Thanks to MrHulthen for covering this, along with DA and ME news.
I see SWTOR Mass Effect (OG and Andromeda) Returnal and Dead Space influences. If new BioW......erm Archetype have their sights set on merging themes again then im excited because thats how Mass Effect was made.
The biggest influence is probably Apple's Foundation TV adaptation.
Being someone who enjoyed Mass Effect, I can't wait to see what comes of this!
Damn that trailer was freaking amazing... But what kind of game is it ? If it's another freaking live service, looter shooter I give up lol
Edit: I did my homework ! Veterants from Bioware are making this game, it's a single player RPG where your choice matter. I'm sold ! I'm on board the hype train ! Can't wait to meet Tom ingame
It is a RPG, I think similar to Mass Effect. Some of the devs responsible for the game use to be with Bioware. This trailer is apparently the origin story of one of the NPC companion characters for the player character.
EDIT: Weird, I didn't see your edit til I replied.
This is the only game besides classic WoW that I've been hyped for for the past 5-10 years.
Just found out about this game from this trailer and never heard of it before. Ok I know this is only a trailer... but I am getting some seriously good Mass Effect vibes from this. The character models are fantastic... the scripting and flow of the trailer was VERY GOOD!!! The ability to convey those heart jerking moments at the end of the trailer... if you can do THAT in the game for storyline and missions. Ohhhhh man... I am very excited!!!
Wow! The feels... I can't remember a trailer ever making me tear up before. This seemingly spiritual successor to Mass Effect feels like the sequel we never got (Andromeda is not part of my head canon). Can't wait to see how this turns out!
Please be good we all deeply need to fill that whole that mass effect left.
As soon as humanity finds an ancient alien ship I'd be looking for the Made in China tags on the parts.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a trailer showcase a game while being it’s own complete short story. Well done, if the trailer was this good, I have high hopes for the actual game.
I know they show very little gameplay but let’s take a moment and acknowledge the stunning concepts, voice acting, audio and music. These were incredibly well made. That last trailer really hit the feels. Beautiful!
The trailer already celebrates a lot of emotions. I was really touched. I hope it will be an incredible journey. If there is gameplay to see, then it goes on the wish list.
Can’t believe it’s been out for 10 months and I’ve just learned about this game now and man… no matter how many times I’ve watched this trailer I’m all teared up when that part hits (you know which part I’m talking about). It just hits all the right cords and I’m already invested in the story. This is how a cinematic trailer is done right.
I genuinely hope this game will be as epic as the Mass Effect trilogy was.
