The fourth song of Ólafur Arnald's "Living Room Songs".
Those who attended one of the Berlin dates of Ólafur's improvisational solo-tour may recognize this theme. It is built around an idea that was improvised live in Berlin, polished a little bit and now recorded.

I disagree strongly, they are really distracting to me and impede my enjoyment. I had to go look for a version where they are not present!
To each their own. The cracking to about 75% of the listeners works.
Really gives a sense of loneliness. Hard to do my homework to this, because I start thinking of being old with no friends, and how shitty that might feel.
It's actually the sound of the sustain pedal, the chair he is sitting on and the hammers of the piano hitting the dimming vilt, great audio engineering if you ask me

A few years ago, I was going through PTSD and I used to listen to this song on a daily basis on repeat, and it would immediately melt my anxiety away.

Came across whilst researching for my A-Level composition and this music has a profound effect on me - it makes my heart feel heavy in my chest, gives me a lump in my throat, and almost makes me shake. I can't tell you why, excpet that this music is an example of true beauty.
