The Abbey Cinema, when it was refurbished in the '60's, was the First Cinerama Cinema in the country. I went there and saw 2001 Space Odyssey, the Battle of the Bulge and more when they first came out, it was fantastic. It had 3 projectors instead of the 2 that became the norm for Cinerama. The effect of seeing films in that format in the '60's was out of this world. It was far better than the 3D films we saw only a few years earlier. You know, the ones with the glasses. 2001 in Cinerama, in the 60's was something else. The psychedelic "through the stargate" sequence had me hyperventilating. Great memories.
Loved this video, fascinating. I’ve seen that well but never stopped to look at it. That gaol should be opened up from time to time to allow people to see inside. Well done mate and thanks for sharing.
Nice one mate, I'm learning loads since I started doing these videos when the gardening season ended. Interesting stuff and more exciting than cabbages :)
Another great video, someone done a vid of the cinema they actually got inside and filmed, still very art deco , I had a shop on picton for years , there’s and old cobbled st few streets away from the library leads into the park / sports centre all the old original cobbles ,👍
Yes, I used to cut through there from the athletics Track when I was a skinny superfast kid back in school. Always fascinated me looking at the cobbles next to the Library. Thanks for watching.
Same here mate, never even paid it any attention but since starting this channel I've learned loads about Liverpool. Some serious history here. Thanks for watching!
Hi there Scouse Farm. Curious to know why that public lav has been closed? It is a gorgeous structure which could be repurposed for some other use? Thanks for this interesting video.
hello Dalan, there are very few public toilets left open in England, they get destroyed so unfortunately the ones I know of are all closed up. Thanks for watching, see you in Billy's Joint on Saturday.
re your comment about people in the past dying younger: I think the general public has a bit of misconception around that and it's no surprise because the way it is often presented is misleading. People look at a stat that says life expectancy at a certain time and place in the past was 30 or 40 years and conclude that means that people were dropping dead at that age and practically nobody was reaching 60, 70 or older. This is not the case. In reality the life expectancy in those times are massively brought down by the huge amount of infant mortality. So the reality is that most people were either dying in childhood or old age and when you take the average it comes out at 30 or 40. Of course even if we exclude child mortality and look at only the birth rate of people who survived to adulthood it is the case that we live longer now but not by nearly as much as that simple stat would lead us to believe.

Another great video and history lesson thank you. You are doing a fantastic job of bringing so much scouse history to the fore.
Nice one!
Nicely preserved!
You should’ve visited the mill cottages off Woolton Road, a little enclave from the past
I might get down to see them at some point. I'll do a bit of research first, thanks for the tip.
Very interesting....I was brought up on the high st....now live in Roby
@@michaelevans2165 Cheers Michael, I filmed a bit of Roby recently so you might see your house on film if you watch it 😂

I worked in City Engineers! Loved old Lamp Posts! There used to be people employed to light GAS LAMPS!
Those are Lamp Posts they had in City Lighting Kent Street but they had extra Seals etc at bottom!

You’re right, lovely building for toilets 😂 glad they’ve kept them
You could get about £2k per month rent for them now :)

Agreed, a lot can be manipulated by using out of context statistics. Thanks for the info, hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
