Why are they photoshopped? Because rather than take a photograph NASA uses data to reconstruct their images. They claim there is no other alternative, and that is the crux of the problem. they have no objective proof but an artists rendition
See, when you make a claim like that, you then have to prove that the image is an artist's rendering. You don't get to make the claim and have it be automatically true. And you have to do this, for literally every picture ever taken from space. Because if even one of them are real, the entire theory of a flat Earth becomes garbage.

Here is an excerpt from a lesson on projectile trajectories at the US Army Field Artillery School at Ft Sill, OK i. Rotation. Although the earth rotates at a constant rate, the correction for rotation varies with a number of factors. Therefore, rotation is more readily considered a nonstandard condition. Factors influencing the effect of rotation of the earth on the travel of a projectile are the direction of fire, angle of departure, velocity of projectile, range to the target, and latitude of the gun. Corrections for these factors are presented in firing tables. The correction tables provide all the data needed for determining corrections to compensate for rotation. However, some background theory of rotational effects may assist you in gaining an understanding of ballistics. 1) Curvature effects exist because we use a map range for which the surface of the earth is assumed to be flat, whereas the actual range is measured on a sphere. The gun-target (GT) range is computed for a plane tangent to the surface of the earth at the gun. When the projectile reaches this range, it will still be above the curved surface of the earth and will continue to drop. This is of little significance except at very long ranges. It is disregarded when firing tables are used, since firing table ranges include the curvature effect. 2) A final rotational effect is that of latitude. When the gun and target are at different latitudes, the eastward rotational velocity effects imparted to the projectile are different from those imparted to the target. For example, if the gun is nearer the equator, the projectile will travel faster and therefore, farther to the east than the target (the effect left or right will depend on the hemisphere). When the gun and target are at the same latitude, the projectile will be deflected away from the target. The projectile tends to travel in the plane of the great circle containing the gun and target at the time of firing. Because of the rotation of the earth, the great circle plane is continuously changing. When the latitude is other than that at the equator, the projectile will be pulled out of its original vertical plane by the force of gravity, which operates from the center of the earth and not perpendicular to the axis of the earth. For example, if a gun was placed at the North or South pole, and a projectile was fired due South or North respectably, towards the equator, the projectile will impact west of the target due to the rotation of the earth. 2. "why is there never stars in any nasa videos from space?" Because the exposure is extremely low. Longer exposure makes for brighter objects in the picture. In order for stars to be shown in the background, the exposure would need to be extended greatly, thus turning the Earth into a bright white ball of light in comparison. Cameras are really annoying to use when trying to take a picture of a bright object in a very dark environment. Test it yourself. On a clear night, when a bright star passes near the Moon, go and take a picture with your camera. Can you take a zoomed in picture of the Moon where its relief is clearly visible AND where you can see the bright star in the background? No, you cannot. To get the bright star in the background, you'll need to increase exposure, thus turning the Moon into (you guessed it) a bright white ball of light with no discernible relief visible.

I have been to Antarctica three times in summer and the sun moves in a big circle in the sky and never sets. It is daytime 24 hours. That cannot happen on a flat earth.

The fact their can be a visible, distinct horizon line and we can zoom in on it and there's not more to see over that line tells us something. If the world were flat, the horizon line would gradually fade off into the distant and not come to an abrupt end. The horizon line from our point of view is the top of the earth and then it curves over. If the earth where flat, what would the horizon line be? Why do boats ride on top of it like a child drawing of a boat on water? Boats should never hit a horizon line on a flat earth, they would only fade from sight before reaching the edge of that flat earth and the water would not have a top the way it's seen here.

You can see the horizon line without zooming in and there no need to zoom in for what I'm describing. It should fade out similar to painting shades of grey and then the lightest grey being the last to see as an object or horizon line matches the sky. If the Sun and Moon did get smaller as it moved away from us, then the flat Earth Sun - which supposedly hovers 3000miles over the Earth - would still just be ~9250miles away from Canada, when it is over Australia - which would mean that it would still be almost 1/3 of the regular size - and clearly visible in the night sky...

Something else I want to make sure everyone is aware of is that, while the flat earthers claim every image of the earth is 'fake' or 'photoshopped', I have not found any images of the flat earth that look even remotely photographic. It's all CG and hand-drawn images of the proposed flat earth model (many different variations and scales I should add). But my favorites are when they take an image of Earth's curve, claim it was photoshopped to look curved, straighten it, then openly tell how they photoshopped it to show 'the truth' GUYS... You had us under the impression that doctored images were illegitimate.

I live near Grand Mere State Park, the park in the video, and I can confirm (I hike there often) that Chicago is almost never visible, with the rare exception when the buildings are clearly stretched by atmospheric refraction. But that's not as convincing as traveling around the base of the lake, where the Chicago skyline IS always visible. If you have a spotting scope, you can look in detail at the skyline and notice what is visible and what isn't. If you pick various cities, further from and closer to Chicago and view the skyline, at lake level, from all of them, you'll notice that more and more of the skyline appears (the bottoms of the taller buildings, and shorter buildings) as you travel closer to the city. And this isn't just small changes. From Michigan City, Indiana to Gary, Indiana, the change in what is visible is massive, around 500 additional feet at the bottom of the skyline is visible from Gary. You can also experience the difference in visibility by climbing the dunes. Much more of the skyline is visible from the top of dunes, hundreds of feet up, than from lake level, which only makes sense in a curved earth model.
samthelima, better call the ancient Egyptians and tell them not to use the water level to build their pyramids, because in a few thousand years a theory will prove water indeed lies. Oh, and don't forget to call the builders of the sun and moon dials in Konark India, because even tho they're still accurate to this day, they won't be once they read the theories of how it's not possible that they could be accurate enough in the future to build into the side of a temple. You might also want to go back and tell those building astrological sites to mark the solstice, that will be a waste of time once they read the theories, that the Earth isn't stationary, but spinning and wobbling and circling the sun, the milky way and traveling through the universe at 1.3 million mph. Oh, and lets not forget God. You better let him know that he should go back and edit all his references to the Earth being stationary and flat. What silly comments. The Great Pyramid is what, about 100 feet on a side? If so, over that distance the curvature is only a small fraction of an inch. Plus, divide that curvature in half if you use the center of the side as your reference point. In any case, it does not matter, since water levels work fine on a globe shaped Earth.
Thanks very much for sharing your first hand experience, rather than re-posting videos and photos that are biased (e.g. the distorted mirage) and only prove the point that the poster wants to prove. It would be really good if you could post up links to photo's (taken on your hikes) from different points around the lake (especially from the mirage vantage point - but on a "normal" day, to show that the skyline is not visible). In my opinion the best way to prove curvature would be to take a highly zoomed (to avoid the claims about perspective) video from a boat starting from a shoreline point where the city skyline is not visible and travel directly towards the city across the lake, seeing the skyline start to appear from below the horizon. But I suppose even that would not prove it if you are so ideologically opposed to the idea that the Earth is spherical.

He's right in that most people would never see anything more than a flat line all the way around the horizon because of the massive relative size of the Earth and the fact that they are so close to it. Nope, you're showing some serious illiteracy with that statement. A. Most of the scientific base we have was from Christians. B. Yes, most flat earthers are from Hebrew Roots and similar type jewish sects.
The question isn't about the shape of the earth at all really. It's about psychology, it's about how sometimes people like to be part of some group (there's strength in numbers) with an extreme view which allows them to feel like they can make a difference without putting much effort in. (This comes from an evolutionary need to be part of a group for safety) Then they may feel like they know something someone else doesn't which gives them a power of confidence over everyone who isn't "in the know." It's like a war between those that act on rational answers and those that act on emotional ones put very simply. When the rational becomes too complicated to explain to someone, (brexit economy prediction or mass migration of people) they may turn to their emotional response. (eg government lying, immigrants taking our jobs, global warming is faked or evolution is "just a theory") To help someone believe otherwise we must either combat it with an equally emotional response from the opposite perspective, ( feels too much like manipulation to me) or talk to them in person and try to figure out WHY they feel this way without just throwing evidence at them. Because as logical and rational as it may be, they will not listen to it. Shouting and restoring to foul names won't achieve anything from either side. I think this effect explains brexit, trump, flat earthers, and many conspiracy theories. You can detect the curvature of the earth if you have a fairly wide field of view. Specifically you need a fov that is at least 60 degrees at that height to see it. Human eyes have a 114 degree fov horizontally. An average camera lens fov is only 40 degrees, therefore these videos are irrelevant. Say you decide to put a fisheye lens on the camera, at that height it would still look weird because of the natural concave view from the fish eye. Next time you are on an airplane ask the pilot if you can look out the cockpit and if the plane is high enough you'll be able to see the curvature of the earth. (of course this assumes you've ever been on an airplane in the first place.) Edit: its kind of sad that you have to actually refute common sense to try to justify this delusion that the world is against you. OK, why do objects in the sky, like the sun, moon, stars, and planets, set bottom to top, rise top to bottom? Why can't you see them, from setting to rising, from one place, with a telescope? Here are some more for you. 1. The further you got from the middle of the sun the shorter the daytime hours would be. This isn't a problem on a globe Earth. It just means that it's colder towards the poles. It's a big problem on a flat Earth and it would mean that there would be isolated areas of great heat that had nothing to do with The Equator; 2. The Sun would have to move faster in the Southern Summer and slower in the Northern Summer because it would have much further to travel in the Southern Summer. Why would it do this? This would also have the effect of making it much colder in The South with far fewer daytime hours; 3. In order for the same number of daytime hours to occur in The South The Sun would have to be either much larger or much higher in the sky. If it were much higher it would have to be much hotter or it would be very cold all the time in The South. If this is the case, fine but it still doesn't explain away the problems of a curved sun that I addressed clearly in point 1 and, again, why would it do this? It doesn't make any sense; 4. There would never be a Winter in The North. There would almost always be 24 hours of daytime in The North Pole and there would never be any more than 12 hours of daytime in The South Pole. In fact, there would almost always be fewer than that; 5. The North Pole would be the hottest place on Earth. It would effectively be The Equator; 6. The sun has clearly been observed 'dancing around in the sky' as it does in The North in New Zealand and Southern Argentina and Chile. This would never happen with the current flat Earth model. There are also problems with some of the arguments used In almost every flat Earth video that I've ever seen. Here are some of them. 1. Someone always talks about water finding its level and that we never observe water clinging to a ball on a much smaller scale so why do we believe that it does this on a globe Earth? Does none of them know how gravity works? Water, along with everything else, only finds its level because of gravity. Gravity causes it to stick to a globe Earth because of its enormous mass; 2. Another argument is long rivers having to flow upstream. Rivers would not be flowing up and down stream anymore than we would be walking up and down a hill every time we went anywhere on a globe Earth. Come on. We know that we don't have to climb over the curvature of The Earth. What would we be climbing over? Gravity certainly wouldn't have anything to do with it. Why should rivers be any different? The aren't; 3. Aeroplanes would not have to make constant adjustments to their altitude because their instruments use gravity to keep them on a constant path; 4. Aeroplanes do not have to travel a far greater distance West to East than they do East to West because they are travelling within The Earth's atmosphere, which means that everything on The Planet is relative, whether it's spinning or not. The fact that they are in the air makes no difference; 5. Aeroplanes to not have to fight against the movement of The Earth when travelling from West to East because everything within The Earth's atmosphere is stable. It would only have do this if the Earth's rotation were accelerating. Is it any harder to walk in the same direction as a train when you are on it when it's travelling at a constant speed and completely enclosed. No. I have no problem walking in either direction on an ICE travelling at 230mph; 6. The horizon is flat! Because The Earth is a perfect sphere, we are always in the centre of the circle. Think about it. If the horizon were curved, it would never meet itself all the way around and we can all go to the top of a mountain and observe that we can see the horizon all around us and no-one has ever seen a point at which the horizon meets imperfectly; 7. Christopher Columbus would not have accidentally found that The Earth was spherical on a flat Earth in the way that flat Earthers claim that he could have done because The Earth is flat and round. He would have had to be constantly changing his compass to be going around The Earth and this would have had to have been very deliberate. He would have always ended up at The South Pole on the current flat Earth model.

Because the exposure is extremely low. Longer exposure makes for brighter objects in the picture. In order for stars to be shown in the background, the exposure would need to be extended greatly, thus turning the Earth into a bright white ball of light in comparison.
Cameras are really annoying to use when trying to take a picture of a bright object in a very dark environment. Test it yourself. On a clear night, when a bright star passes near the Moon, go and take a picture with your camera. Can you take a zoomed in picture of the Moon where its relief is clearly visible AND where you can see the bright star in the background? No, you cannot. To get the bright star in the background, you'll need to increase exposure, thus turning the Moon into (you guessed it) a bright white ball of light with no discernible relief visible.

If the world were flat, the horizon line would gradually fade off into the distant and not come to an abrupt end. The horizon line from our point of view is the top of the earth and then it curves over. If the earth where flat, what would the horizon line be? Why do boats ride on top of it like a child drawing of a boat on water? Boats should never hit a horizon line on a flat earth, they would only fade from sight before reaching the edge of that flat earth and the water would not have a top the way it's seen here.

I have seen the horizon for myself. You can pretty much do it for free and doesn't take much money at all. The research I am talking about is a simple visual research as the video shows. Traveling out to the horizon on the water does not help anyone study the distant horizon on the water from a distance, you have to be distant from it for that observation. What the video shows and what anyone could see with their naked eye is for sure the truth or what is, it's our interpretation of that information that is the problem and without certain basic knowledge of how things work, some people will have the wrong interpretation and with their uncertainty they will wait to be told what they are seeing by people who understand it.

Something else I want to make sure everyone is aware of is that, while the flat earthers claim every image of the earth is 'fake' or 'photoshopped', I have not found any images of the flat earth that look even remotely photographic. It's all CG and hand-drawn images of the proposed flat earth model (many different variations and scales I should add). But my favorites are when they take an image of Earth's curve, claim it was photoshopped to look curved, straighten it, then openly tell how they photoshopped it to show 'the truth' GUYS... You had us under the impression that doctored images were illegitimate.

I live near Grand Mere State Park, the park in the video, and I can confirm (I hike there often) that Chicago is almost never visible, with the rare exception when the buildings are clearly stretched by atmospheric refraction. But that's not as convincing as traveling around the base of the lake, where the Chicago skyline IS always visible. If you have a spotting scope, you can look in detail at the skyline and notice what is visible and what isn't. If you pick various cities, further from and closer to Chicago and view the skyline, at lake level, from all of them, you'll notice that more and more of the skyline appears (the bottoms of the taller buildings, and shorter buildings) as you travel closer to the city. And this isn't just small changes. From Michigan City, Indiana to Gary, Indiana, the change in what is visible is massive, around 500 additional feet at the bottom of the skyline is visible from Gary. You can also experience the difference in visibility by climbing the dunes. Much more of the skyline is visible from the top of dunes, hundreds of feet up, than from lake level, which only makes sense in a curved earth model.

What silly comments. The Great Pyramid is what, about 100 feet on a side? If so, over that distance the curvature is only a small fraction of an inch. Plus, divide that curvature in half if you use the center of the side as your reference point.
In any case, it does not matter, since water levels work fine on a globe shaped Earth.
Thanks very much for sharing your first hand experience, rather than re-posting videos and photos that are biased (e.g. the distorted mirage) and only prove the point that the poster wants to prove. It would be really good if you could post up links to photo's (taken on your hikes) from different points around the lake (especially from the mirage vantage point - but on a "normal" day, to show that the skyline is not visible). In my opinion the best way to prove curvature would be to take a highly zoomed (to avoid the claims about perspective) video from a boat starting from a shoreline point where the city skyline is not visible and travel directly towards the city across the lake, seeing the skyline start to appear from below the horizon. But I suppose even that would not prove it if you are so ideologically opposed to the idea that the Earth is spherical.

He's right in that most people would never see anything more than a flat line all the way around the horizon because of the massive relative size of the Earth and the fact that they are so close to it. The question isn't about the shape of the earth at all really.
It's about psychology, it's about how sometimes people like to be part of some group (there's strength in numbers) with an extreme view which allows them to feel like they can make a difference without putting much effort in. (This comes from an evolutionary need to be part of a group for safety) Then they may feel like they know something someone else doesn't which gives them a power of confidence over everyone who isn't "in the know." It's like a war between those that act on rational answers and those that act on emotional ones put very simply.
When the rational becomes too complicated to explain to someone, (brexit economy prediction or mass migration of people) they may turn to their emotional response. (eg government lying, immigrants taking our jobs, global warming is faked or evolution is "just a theory")
To help someone believe otherwise we must either combat it with an equally emotional response from the opposite perspective, ( feels too much like manipulation to me) or talk to them in person and try to figure out WHY they feel this way without just throwing evidence at them. Because as logical and rational as it may be, they will not listen to it.

Flat earthers don't understand Topology (which is basically what you are trying to explain from the outset of this video) and they ignore any kind of actual evidence that doesn't suite their "theories". Frankly, as a scientist and mathematician, I am fairly insulted by these people.
Jake Jebson again this so called "proof" ignores topology and optics. So say you go to the height of 35,000 ft in the air. You can detect the curvature of the earth if you have a fairly wide field of view. Specifically you need a fov that is at least 60 degrees at that height to see it. Human eyes have a 114 degree fov horizontally. An average camera lens fov is only 40 degrees, therefore these videos are irrelevant. Say you decide to put a fisheye lens on the camera, at that height it would still look weird because of the natural concave view from the fish eye.
Next time you are on an airplane ask the pilot if you can look out the cockpit and if the plane is high enough you'll be able to see the curvature of the earth. (of course this assumes you've ever been on an airplane in the first place.)

If the earth is flat, objects in the sky should just appear as dots, become larger until overhead, then get smaller until they are tiny dots, then a telescope will bring them back again. Instead they appear and disappear over the earth's curvature, and you can't find them with a telescope. Are you really that stupid, or are you putting me on?

One picture he had showed a tiny earth with a diameter of maybe 4,000 feet with buildings coming out into space like a spiked ball. He asked me does this look plausible to u? And I answered no in real life the earth is almost 8,000 miles in diameter I’m sry ur picture is wrong.

Here are some more for you.
1. The further you got from the middle of the sun the shorter the daytime hours would be. This isn't a problem on a globe Earth. It just means that it's colder towards the poles. It's a big problem on a flat Earth and it would mean that there would be isolated areas of great heat that had nothing to do with The Equator;
2. The Sun would have to move faster in the Southern Summer and slower in the Northern Summer because it would have much further to travel in the Southern Summer. Why would it do this? This would also have the effect of making it much colder in The South with far fewer daytime hours;
3. In order for the same number of daytime hours to occur in The South The Sun would have to be either much larger or much higher in the sky. If it were much higher it would have to be much hotter or it would be very cold all the time in The South. If this is the case, fine but it still doesn't explain away the problems of a curved sun that I addressed clearly in point 1 and, again, why would it do this? It doesn't make any sense;
4. There would never be a Winter in The North. There would almost always be 24 hours of daytime in The North Pole and there would never be any more than 12 hours of daytime in The South Pole. In fact, there would almost always be fewer than that;
5. The North Pole would be the hottest place on Earth. It would effectively be The Equator;
6. The sun has clearly been observed 'dancing around in the sky' as it does in The North in New Zealand and Southern Argentina and Chile. This would never happen with the current flat Earth model.
There are also problems with some of the arguments used In almost every flat Earth video that I've ever seen. Here are some of them.
1. Someone always talks about water finding its level and that we never observe water clinging to a ball on a much smaller scale so why do we believe that it does this on a globe Earth? Does none of them know how gravity works? Water, along with everything else, only finds its level because of gravity. Gravity causes it to stick to a globe Earth because of its enormous mass;
2. Another argument is long rivers having to flow upstream. Rivers would not be flowing up and down stream anymore than we would be walking up and down a hill every time we went anywhere on a globe Earth. Come on. We know that we don't have to climb over the curvature of The Earth. What would we be climbing over? Gravity certainly wouldn't have anything to do with it. Why should rivers be any different? The aren't;
3. Aeroplanes would not have to make constant adjustments to their altitude because their instruments use gravity to keep them on a constant path;
4. Aeroplanes do not have to travel a far greater distance West to East than they do East to West because they are travelling within The Earth's atmosphere, which means that everything on The Planet is relative, whether it's spinning or not. The fact that they are in the air makes no difference;
5. Aeroplanes to not have to fight against the movement of The Earth when travelling from West to East because everything within The Earth's atmosphere is stable. It would only have do this if the Earth's rotation were accelerating. Is it any harder to walk in the same direction as a train when you are on it when it's travelling at a constant speed and completely enclosed. No. I have no problem walking in either direction on an ICE travelling at 230mph;
6. The horizon is flat! Because The Earth is a perfect sphere, we are always in the centre of the circle. Think about it. If the horizon were curved, it would never meet itself all the way around and we can all go to the top of a mountain and observe that we can see the horizon all around us and no-one has ever seen a point at which the horizon meets imperfectly;
7. Christopher Columbus would not have accidentally found that The Earth was spherical on a flat Earth in the way that flat Earthers claim that he could have done because The Earth is flat and round. He would have had to be constantly changing his compass to be going around The Earth and this would have had to have been very deliberate. He would have always ended up at The South Pole on the current flat Earth model.

Because the horizon is created by convergence ... of two flat plains ... which is in the center of both . The sky will appear to angle down ... at a steeper degree because it's obviously farther away . Ships sail within the convergence from a ground level ... and the ground doesn't angle up ... to such a degree .
