  • Located in Callaghan Valley, Whistler,BC, Puma Peak is the highest of a bunch of summits around and north of Madeley Lake at the head of Callaghan Valley.
On Sunday morning we parked our truck at the parking area of Whistler Olympic Park, and walked a few hundred meters to the locked gate, which we jumped over. We followed the groomed ski track for more than 4 kilometers before putting on our snowshoes and walking into the forest on the right. After carefully passing a boulder area covered in snow, we crossed the creek and kept climbing upwards on the left side of the creek. We followed a gully till 1500m elevation, where we had a break in the sun. We were soon welcomed by beautiful views around after climbing several steep hills. 5 hours later after leaving our truck we were at the top of Puma South Peak. It was cold and windy. We had a lengthy break behind a snow wall at the top. We then walked down to the col between the south peak and north peak by losing 160m elevation. The first part of the climb to the true summit is very steep, but we managed to the second bump with our snowshoes. I checked my GPS, which showed 1903 meters elevation. I then consulted with our maps, which showed the true peak is the 3rd bump. We continued our journey. When we got to the summit, I checked my GPS and it showed 1902 meters elevation. It is very strange that maps mark the 3rd bump, 1 meter lower than the 2nd, as the peak. Anyway the views are stunning. We spent a while having our lunch , taking pictures and enjoying the views. Climbing down to the col and going back to Puma South took us 59 minutes. The rest was downhills till the groomed ski track with some ups and downs. C2C 11 hours and 35 minutes. Totally 22 kilometers with 1625 meters of elevation gain per my Garmin Fenix 7.
