    last time they did this, they had me do it by hand, with a shovel and wheel barrow, it took a little longer because i had to hold the track and ties up with one hand and shovel with the other - thats me at 19:16 with my great grandson Ivan -

    That bloke in the middle has a fun job.
    Dusting the rocks off the sleepers with a little brush.
    "Tom, what do you do for a living?"
    "I work on an automated track cleaning and laying machine"
    "Wow that must be so cool, and complicated, you must get paid loads"
    "..."

      This is not a job that normally needs to be done, but if a track has not been (proper) maintained for a long time, in some places the sleepers will sink into mud and dirt.
      When most of the track is in such a condition, they send a cleaning machine, such as a gravel plow with large, round sweeping brushes, over the track before the track-laying machine comes. If only a few meters are so filthy, the guys from the track train must do a little bit of cleaning, so that the dirt does not end up in the fresh gravel afterwards.

    Wow, amazing machine. Wonder the runtime to downtime percentage average is, and the precision is on the tack (level, straight, curve, also bank for speed).

    The guys with the green vests are just local yokals, given a shovel or rake and told to look busy.

    • @pearlyhumbucker9065
      @pearlyhumbucker9065 6 лет назад

      No.
      They got green vests, because the purchasing agent of the company bought them green ones....
      Besides, there is no time to work with locals. Until the locals are told the job, the construction site is finished and the train goes to the next construction site .....

      Part of what they are doing is cleaning off and presumably sharpening the ballast so it is less prone to shifting.

    • @mjarail
      @mjarail 8 лет назад +3

      No, not really. This machine removes the old contaminated ballast, drops and compacts sand as a sub-base, then dumps back the cleaned ballast to support the track. Before the track is finished, more ballast is spread and the track is resurfaced with tamping machines to lift and cross-level the track and tamp the ballast under the ties.

  • @dleland71
    @dleland71 8 лет назад +2

    WOW! Wonder who thought that thing up? You know, they could use compressed air to blow the ballast and sand off the ties, but that would put someone out of a job. :)

    • @pearlyhumbucker9065
      @pearlyhumbucker9065 6 лет назад +1

      Thats not a good idea. Using compressed air to dust of the ties would result in big clouds of dusted off dust. Therefore they have integrated water sprayers and rotary brushes which take this job if needed - only short stretches are done by hand

    THIS IS SLOW MOVING BUT WHEN THEN THERE S A FINISHED RAILROAD ANDTHE TRAINS THAT RUN OVER THIS TRACK WILL BE SMOOTH FOR A WHILE TILL THE TIES GET EMBEDDEDAND THEL THIS WILL ALL WILL HAVE TO BE DONE ALL OVER AGAN

    • @JFBence
      @JFBence 7 лет назад

      There are machines for that too. They lift themselves off the tracks, while supporting on the rocks. Then it uses vibration to compact the sleepers and the rocks together.

  • @mochaitalia1
    @mochaitalia1 9 лет назад +2

    I don't know who films these things or edits them, but they have no concept of time. 4 minutes of the same view and too far away to see really what is happening. These machines are amazing pieces of engineering and these videos make you want to turn them off because of how badly they are made.

    • @pearlyhumbucker9065
      @pearlyhumbucker9065 6 лет назад

      This is clearly to be seen: It is a fanmade video, therefore it is nonsense to make professional demands of it.
      If you want to see professional and in all aspects informative videos of such devices, then you should look around at the manufacturers. At TrackMachines (ruclips.net/channel/UCgRU4p9o32jgY4vQKRIrZjA) you will find plenty of material - enough for you to view for many weeks to come - including a video for the machine shown here, the Plasser & Theurer PM1000-URM eurailpool:
