I’ve built the ex-Monogram Shooting Star via Revell in 1/48. Really appreciate these old kits especially for a quick project, even though I haven’t built a scale model in years except as a crash land for terrain pieces for WW2 wargaming.
State of the art when it came out! I didn't buy it as for some reason I only made piston engined planes, times have changed. This review has tempted me to make good my omission of 50 years ago.
I have this kit in my stash as I managed to get it cheap off eBay. I always wanted this kit as I never picked up the 90s release which I regreted. It looks like a nice modal and I like the decals they give you.
My advice if you build wheels down exercise care as nose gear is fragile. Good kit. I don't build for competition anymore(too old too poor) but still try to make a presentable product.
I made a couple of these last year as the ficticious naval version with folding wings featured in fallout 3. Never did get around to painting them though.
I just bought a 1983 USS Indianapolis at a Tenerife car boot sale. The kid gave me a BF109 box for free which had a biplane and a diorama kit in. I can kit bash it a little when I get back
I made one back in the 70's when it was new - and i was a kid.. nice kit.. and when it appeared again last year i snapped one up. i dont tend to make planes these days , preferring 1/35 afvs ,but i wanted to give this a go and it came out nice. sure its an old kit. but the plane is very simple design so thats no matter. went together well, the decals are modern and everything was good.
I built this one some time ago - nice kit (great for the time) that gives a decent result. I notice the box art says illustration by Roy Cross 1973. In it's neutered form here that 's not really true, is it? Maybe "based on an illustration by" would be more accurate? That said he absolutely should be credited for it, truly one of the greats.
Hi Matt.. thought in general about nose weighting. If the weight isn't enough then perhaps if the tyres for the main wheels have a flat spot this can be set at an angle and glued to a base so it looks as though the aircraft is landing. Makes the model look more dynamic and avoids the bullet of always having to keep the nose down.
Built this last year, nice little kit for its age. 2 things to watch out for, finding a blue paint for the nose to match the blue speed stripes. The 2nd part is the main undercarriage doors are quite thick and don’t really sit/fit very well. But it does look very nice once it’s finished 👍
Good tip! I found that the humbrol 25 (as recommended in the instructions) matches the decal blue pretty well - as long as you gloss coat it afterwards. If you leave it matt it is too light
They butchered a lot of the Roy Cross artwork I believe in the 90s to sanitise and make them look less violent so parents would be more likely to buy them for children
For and old kit is is pretty good. I have one on my stash and it would not have been out of place as an 80s release. With a bit of work it would make for nice display stand model or a dog fight double with a Mig15.
Hi! I what’s just wandering if you could build the Takoms sub orbital ultra bomber 1/72 scale Silbervogel it’s looks cool and I’m thin king on getting it so it would be cool if I could see your opinion on it! Thanks! ✈
"The P-80 wing tip incorporated a shackle from which to hang a jettisonable fuel tank or 1,000-lb bomb (the requirement to do both dictated its location under the wing; otherwise the tank would have been mounted in-line on the wingtip to maximize the end-plate effect)." Had to Google and found the above with an interesting photo of bombs mounted on the wingtip on the following webpage: TAILHOOK TOPICS DRAFTS Friday, June 2, 2017 Lockheed P/F-80 Shooting Star Tip Tanks Will post a link in a separate comment, as they aren't always accepted to prevent spam.
F-80 variants in 1/72 are hard to find these days, the only "modern" one is a 2012 T-33 from Platz, and I don't really like the 2 seater look, picked this one up a few months ago, will get to it eventually, or maybe somehow mod it together with the Platz one to be a "modern" single seater.

I like old kits because there is no "pressure" to make them look amazing
I have some from 1975 along with F86 D models from Airfix . Great models that haven't aged.

Got this one in my stash. Tempted to get it out now
Should defo build it! I used rattle cans on mine and only took a couple days

The decals are really good quality :D

I just order this kit 3 days ago and I am excited, once I saw this video I was like let's goo!
I hpoe you enjoy!
A really nice kit, I'm thinking about buying one.
I hope you enjoy
Looks like a neat little kit .Thanks for the review .
thanks for watching
Thanks for the review, I'll pick this one up.

yes, the image is edited so it isn't true to the original

Build it some years ago nice kit.
yeah, i had fun doing this one
They butchered a lot of the Roy Cross artwork I believe in the 90s to sanitise and make them look less violent so parents would be more likely to buy them for children
yeah, i think they were trying to make it all a bit more "safe"
I believe it was for the Australian market that’s why they had to change it
@@ModelMinutescompletely ridiculous to censor the artwork
@@Shipnerd194 I know, if you’re not careful these war planes will end up hurting someone!
A kit you should pick up should be the p-61 night fighter by revell it’s in 1/48 scale so it’s pretty big
i've heard that it is pretty bad
@@ModelMinutes if your going of detail then yes but most of revell kits lack detail. I still enjoyed making the kit good video 👍

I quite like mine in its flying pose on its display stand :D
Looks a whole lot better built than it does on or in the box tbh ... build it boyo thank me later 💫
it's already built - pics on my IG or community feed
cool, as far as ambitions go you got back before you left! 💥💥
Model Minutes are you going to build the WWI dogfight double?
I imagine I will at some point

that's an awesome suggestion! I'd love to take a look at that kit but not sure I can afford it at the moment, but will look into it
Are they drop tanks or fuel tanks on the end of the wings?
Fuel tanks, I believe they are jettisonable so drop tanks

sounds like an interesting project
Im currently applying the stickers on the model, only some parts did not fit well.
thanks for the info!
Looks fairly detailed for a 50 year old kit...
it's not the worst lol
I always dread adding wraparound decals.
This kit doesn’t really have any, only the red stripe on the fuselage wraps around
@@ModelMinutes hi Mat great vifeo...amd ues you zre correct about the art work..the same thing happened to the. Matchbox artwork by Roy Huxley.. thanks to the pc woke brigade it was deemded '"offensive'
@@ModelMinutes Even the blue decals could be a challenge
Micro Sol is a product that's a must have for wrap around decals, softens them up nicely to sucker into and around the worst curves.
@@michaelkeogh8454 I’ve built this one recently and didn’t have any real issues with the blue ones, just have to take your time with them
i always thought this was a good kit back in the early 80s when i first got it (my god i am older than the kit lol)
yeah, its not bad
Now build it 10 more times and you have the average rank V air rb game in war thunder
lol, need some f84 and a few swifts too
