I'm so glad I stumbled across this. I found a bicycle by the side of the road with this exact shifter. At first, I couldn't see anything happening. So, I just thought it was a fake shifter and considered removing it. It wasn't until I looked it up and found out it was a 1973 Columbia Tourist 3 with a 3 speed hub. A few RUclips videos later and I suddenly realized "Oh. The shifting happens INSIDE the hub."
Thank you as a lover of the classic style bikes every video on RUclips is about mountain biking. The internal hubs are as much as I can stand because I just hate all the complex extra gears.

Josh, Great video. I have an older Men's Kent bike and I need a new shifter cable with the knurled adjustment fixture. Any idea where to get one of those?
A question, how does the gear cable attach to the barrel at the back? I'd love to see one that shows how it connects as I have a 3 speed like yours, even same shifters. I got given it and it has no gear cable attached
Just got an 85 or so Schwinn Collegiate with a lot of miles on it. The 3cc works perfectly. Supposedly, the 3cc is an weak part as these things go, it seems pretty strong to me! Oh yeah, the way I get it, you're supposed to stop pedaling when you shift. It certainly works better on mine when i stop pedaling.

Most pedals are a 15mm unless it’s an older bike. American companies will be a 9/16 or half inch. Some French companies use a weird thread though. Remember they are reverse thread also.

@@JoshHarrisRides Да, ты конечно прав, 3-скоростные втулки продаются и их много, но у всех у них привод переключения находится справа, но я ищу привод слева, такой вариант очень трудно найти, у меня пока не получилось.

I did this to my bike and now you can't tell the shifter is the same one and it works so good keep up the good work

My Free Spirit is stuck in 3rd. Good information, The gear shifter does not move.

we call them coaster brakes in kanuckistan.

Me kit motor gaz is niome 100cc..end guizmo 80cc
What do you do if the rear wheel locked up? Breaks are not stuck on. I have one with hand breaks, and free wheels.
I would try disassembling the hub. May need to be greased

Not always. Depends how much time you want to put into it.

эта втулка была сделана свободным духом. Я не верю, что их больше не производят. Попробуйте исследовать 3-скоростную велосипедную втулку.
