@@GraspTheDeenIt is quoted in the book “Muhammad Rasulullah,” by Muhammad Hamidullah: “There is a very old tradition in Malabar, South-West Coast of India, that Chakrawati Farmas, one of their kings, had observed the splitting of the moon, the celebrated miracle of the Holy Prophet at Makkah, and learning on inquiry that there was a prediction of the coming of a Messenger of God from Arabia, he appointed his son as regent and set out to meet him. He embraced Islam at the hand of the Prophet". There is no evidence to support the existence of King Chakrawati Farmas in historical records. The story of the splitting of the moon in Islamic tradition is not corroborated by other sources, and there is no mention of the king or the event in Hindu or Buddhist texts, which were prevalent in the region during the time period in question. This is a late Islamic source and it is an apologetic story trying to convince people of the miracle, as the king is said to have later travelled to Mecca and convert to Islam, how historical is that?! Are there actual Indian sources for this? Why are there no records of it in any astronomical writings of the time, as this would have been a very unique event? You do not mention these historical facts about the text/king.

According to Sebastian R. Prange, during the 12th to 14th centuries CE, the Muslims in Malabar, who were at the time a minority there, composed a story to solidify their community’s influence in the region, claiming that a king of the medieval Chera dynasty called Cheraman Perumal (lit. "Great lord of the Cheras"), or in its Arabic rendering, Shakarwatī Farmad, had witnessed the moon splitting in his dream. He then partitioned his realm among different lieutenants, journeyed to Arabia to see Muhammad, and died some years later. Prange maintains that historical research has found this story to be fictitious.

@@GraspTheDeen The trouble with belief is this; it does not matter how much scientific evidence is brought, believers still double down on their belief. The problem with the Moon splitting story’s “EVIDENCE”, is that there are too many versions that are contradictory. 1. Prange maintains that historical research has found this story to be fictitious. The Muslim scholar Yusuf Ali provides three different interpretations of the verse. He holds that perhaps all three are applicable to the verse: Moon once appeared cleft asunder at the time of Muhammad to convince the unbelievers. 2. A story says that while Cheraman Perumal, possibly named Baskara Ravi Varma, walking late at night with one of his wives in the palace garden, he alone saw the moon split. 3. There is NO SPLIT of any evidence of a SPLIT around any portion of the Moon. 4. No, there is no scientific evidence that the moon has ever split into two or more parts and reassembled. However, there are some features on the moon that may look like splits: Tycho crater. A feature that some say may be related to a split in a photo, but doesn't encircle the moon. 5. What is observed, are localized cracks on our Moon, other moons and even the Earth. 6. All elements have half-lives that can be measured; there is no evidence of any recent cracks that goes back 1400 years ago. 7. Prophets NEVER take up challenges to perform miracles; in some cases they initiate a challenge.
Your efforts are appreciated but don’t try to prove Islam correct by science theories. As Muslims we know that the Quran is from Allah he says the moon split. That’s all the evidence we need and Allah knows best. Same way we don’t need evidence of Moses splitting the sea, why? Because it’s in the Quran and that’s all you need to know. It’s a MIRACLE. A miracle is something that shouldn’t be scientifically possible but still happened by the will of Allah. Like the birth of Jesus with no father. Once you start trying to explain a miracle with “scientific proof”, well then it’s not a miracle then is it?
