The deuterocanonical books were in the LXX, and there were popular Jewish traditions (e.g. the letter of Aristeas) about inspiration of the LXX. Why would Jews believe that there was an inspired translation of seven apocryphal books?
While you are reading your larger bible you might compare what teachings you get from the 7 books and see if there is any contradiction with the new testament? Tobit 6 gives you the cure to clouded vision and Jesus did not do it with the blind man ?. Tobit 6 also tells you how to rid a persons of demons forever and again Jesus and the apostles do not do it? Cherry picked verses in 2 Maccabee's 12 tells you to pray for the dead something you will not find in any other book of the bible. Converting to the true faith or a group that claims to be the true faith? Did you leave Jesus out of the equation when you converted? Did you have Jesus in the first place ?
@@brucewmclaughlin9072 thanks. I needed a good laugh. Your list of "contradictions" display either your ignorance of Scripture or your ill will, much as an atheist mines for "contradictions" in Scripture. In 1 Kings, we read that Elijah raised the dead widow's son by stretching himself upon the child three times, calling out "O Lord, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again." Elisha raised the Shunammite's son in much the same way. Jesus didn't heal the widow of Nain's son in this way. Elisha commanded Namaan to wash in the Jordan River sevens times. That isn't how Jesus healed lepers. 1 Samuel records that King Saul was tormented by an evil spirit, but when David played the harp for him, the evil spirit would leave him. Neither Jesus nor his Apostles used music therapy to cure anything, much less demon possession. Are these contradictions or are they simply other miraculous accounts. Magic requires a set formula. Miracles, which display God's power, can take form God in His Wisdom chooses. Your criticism of Tobit's healing from blindness is perhaps the silliest bc a) there is a difference btw going blind from infection [Tobit] and being born blind [such as the man Jesus healed in John's Gospel]; b) when Jesus healed the man born blind with mud and spit, He wasn't simply healing a man. He was signaling His identity as the Creator inaugurating a New Creation. [A major theme in John's Gospel]. Neither St Raphael nor Tobias could make that claim about their identities; and c) Tobit record that white films were removed from his eyes. Acts records that when St Ananias was sent to heal St Paul of his temporary, something like scales fell from his eyes. That sounds similar to me; and d) you are aware that there are modern, medical procedures to treat clouded vision. If cataracts surgery doesn't contradict the NT, neither does Tobit. As for your criticism of prayer for the dead, that's an appeal to silence and essentially begging the question. Protestants don't reject prayer for the dead bc they're not in Scripture; you reject Scripture bc it mentions prayers for the dead, which contradicts your heretical beliefs. The fact of the matter is that the Jews of Jesus's day did offer prayers for the dead and the earliest Christians did the same. As early as AD150, one finds inscriptions on Christian tombs asking for prayers. Protestants need to ignore 1500 years of Church history to come to the conclusion that prayers for the dead are useless. I am a Catholic precisely because I follow Christ. I urge you to do the same. "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ" - and the Scripture led me to the Catholic Church.

Your criticism of Tobit's healing from blindness is perhaps the silliest bc: A) there is a difference btw healing blindness from infection and healing blindness from birth. B) the account of the man born blind in John's Gospel, for example, isn't simply about a miracle. Jesus forming mud from spit is meant to remind readers of Genesi. It signals Jesus's identity as God and the inauguration of a New Creation [a major theme of John's Gospel.] Neither the angel Raphael nor Tobias could claim that identity. C) Tobit records white films being removed from his eyes. The Acts of the Apostles records something like scales falling from. St Paul's eyes. Sounds similar. D) You are aware of modern, medical procedures to treat clouded vision, right? If they don't contradict the NT, neither does Tobit. As for your criticism of prayers for the dead, that is an argument from silence and essentially begging the question. The fact remains, 1st century Jews did offer prayers for the dead, a practice adopted by the earliest Christians. As early as AD150, one finds Christian inscriptions on tombs asking for prayers. Protestants need to ignore 1500 years of Christian tradition in order to claim prayers for the dead are unnecessary and wrong. In point of fact, Protestants don't reject prayers because they're "unbiblical;" you reject Scripture because prayers for the dead contradict your heterodox opinions. Protestantism relies on ignorance- ignorance of Scripture, ignorance of history, and ignorance of Church Teaching. Well, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." I think the point about liturgy really needs to be emphasized more in applogetics. It completely obliterates the idea that sola scriptura was at all on the minds of any of the early Christians. To read the bible outside of the wider context of the sacraments and liturgy is to rip it out of its intended context. Just imagine a protestant trying to explain to early Christians how they read the Bible for themselves, and it brought them to the conclusion that the sacraments are unnecessary...
Matter and form. The bible each scripture is matter. Yes including the chain of apolostolically genealogical form of the Catholic and arguably the orthodox bible. The apocrypha is wisdom and is for allegorical parables. And if they are based on true historical events and not mere value in wisdom than more the wiser.
Stop talking to evangelicals. But, then Jesus said this would happen to his true followers. That they would be accused of worshipping Satan. The pharasees accused him of being in league with the devil. Afterwhich he said Matthew 10:25 If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
My point is the fact that they accuse us of worshiping Satan should'nt make us feel bad because Jesus said it would happen. If you follow jesus your going to be ridiculed

The deuterocanonical books were in the LXX, and there were popular Jewish traditions (e.g. the letter of Aristeas) about inspiration of the LXX. Why would Jews believe that there was an inspired translation of seven apocryphal books?
What a joy it was upon converting to the true faith qnd realizing that my bible was suddenly bigger! 😂 🎄 🎁
@@brucewmclaughlin9072 thanks. I needed a good laugh. Either your ignorance of Scripture or your ill will is on display here, like the atheist who mines for "contradictions."
In 1 Kings, we read that Elijah healed the widow's son by stretching himself upon him 3xs. Elisha healed the Shunammite's son in much the same way. Yet Jesus didn't heal the widow of Nain's son in this way.
Elisha commanded Namaan the leper to wash in the Jordan River 7x. Jesus didn't command the 10 lepers He met to do the same.
King Saul was tormented by an evil spirit, but when David played the harp for him, the evil spirit would leave him. Neither Jesus nor the Apostles used music therapy to cure anything, let alone demon possession.
Are these contradictions? Or are they simply different miraculous accounts? You see, magic requires following a strict formula. Miracles, which display the power of God, can take whatever form He chooses.
Your criticism of Tobit's healing from blindness is perhaps the silliest bc:
A) there is a difference btw healing blindness from infection and healing blindness from birth.
Well, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." Christ, through the Holy Scripture, led me to the Catholic Church.
@@brucewmclaughlin9072 this either shows your ignorance of Scripture or your ill will, just as atheists mine for "contradictions" to disprove the entirety of Scripture.
Tell me, when Elijah raised the widow's son, does that contradict Jesus's raising of the widow of Nain's son?
When Elisha commanded Namaan to wash in the Jordan 7x, does that contradict Jesus?
When David's harp playing caused the evil spirit tormenting Saul to leave, does that contradict the NT?
Jesus led me to the Catholic Church. The existence of the Canon of Scripture points to the Catholic Church. The only thing I abandoned in my conversion was a 500 year old heresy which separated me from Christ.
@@carissstewart3211 scriptures do not contradict each other in old or new testament.

Ok so what heresy separated you from Christ? If you are a born again believer in Christ you can not be separated from Him .
Tradition says that Pharoah requested to read the Hebrew Scriptures in Greek, so that's why the Septuagint was translated into Greek. Also, he isolated each scholar and compared their translations. They were the same.
Further, Simeon was one of the translators who doubted the Messiah would come. He was told by the Holy Spirit he would remain alive until he saw the Messiah with his own eyes, which was fulfilled in the 5th Joyful Mystery of the Rosary.

If they were ADDED at the Council of Trent then why in the world would they be in the Orthodox canon when the Orthodox Church (regrettably in some ways) would not have given a hill of beans what the Catholics said in the 1500s at the Council of Trent?
i read a protestant book use the forth century councils to prove the NT cannon but they use the jewish rabbinic legendary councils for OT
The protestants took 6 books away from the Holy Bible leaving 66 books.
Look at those numbers...
This is an argument I use as well. You're the first person I've heard online saying the same thing. We have 73 books. Two PERFECT numbers. Luthifer( as I call him) removed 7 PERFECT books leaving them with 66. Coincidence. I don't think so. God bless you friend

Do any of your 6 or 7 books speak about Mary's perpetual virginity or Mary's intercessory powers?
Catholics are the only Christian like religion that embodies Mary as a deity, also Orthodox.
There are 7957 Nt verses not 1 speaks of Mary's perpetual virginity or Mary's intercessory powers yet Catholics make this they doctrine.
God is not involved in Mary's doctrine. Is God even involved in the Catholic Church is the real question?
@@tknciliba4743 Mary is a creature like the rest of us in Catholicism, not a deity or some sort of goddess. There are many protestant converts to Catholicism who can explain this and many other protestant misconceptions about the Catholic faith.

Evangelicals punching the air right now
I’m Orthodox, but ask a Protestant to look at books in the 1611 King James, the original, not the one they have today. Interesting that those books are in there but for some reason got taken out.
They dont have wisdom and sirach?? Those two are my favorite esp sirach
I think the point about liturgy really needs to be emphasized more in applogetics.
Great video, thanks.

Protestant 66 books/Catholic 73 books/Orthodox 81 books
Evangelicals make me feel like I worship Satan. What should I do? 🤷♂️
Stop talking to evangelicals.
But, then Jesus said this would happen to his true followers. That they would be accused of worshipping Satan.

Yes, this is probably true. But I give it to them because it doesn't matter if it was 90 ad or 300 ad. Jews cant fix our canon of scripture
I was just about to comment that. I love this channel, but there's not a shred of evidence for the Council of Jamnia ever happening. I heard Dr Pitre as well in Riverside, CA give this talk. Dr. Michael Barber also gave a great talk about the Canon of Scripture, and notes that Jamnia never happened. Barber also gave recommendation on the book, "Why Catholics Bibles are Bigger" by Gary Michuta. Took his advice and it's a fantastic book with a lot of history and information. Still a great video though.
I like the comment that the Jews can fix scripture. A point forgotten. Your channel is great. Thanks for all the videos.
What was scripture for Jesus, and the Righteous around him, is enough for me. Stop swearing against your brother, and bless them instead
So you except the deuterocanonical books then?
There was no defined Christian canon until the 4th century. The J3ws (Jesus' religion) didn't have a closed canon of their own until about 100 years after Christ's death. By then it didn't matter to Christians what the J3ws did with their canon as they refused to become Christian.
"...scripture for Jesus and the Righteous around him.." was those writings that we now call the Old Testament.
The Holy Bible came four hundred years later.
Number of bibles in circulation inside of Catholicism during council of Trent? Thousands, millions?
Number of bibles in circulation inside of Protestantism durning the council of Trent? Tens, hundreds?
It’s kinda hard to add books to bibles already in circulation when there’s thousands of them. It’s much easier to remove books though when none of those bibles even exist.
By the time Luther had arrived the bible had been translated into over 70 languages. The very first book Guttenberg printed in 1455 was the Bible. It was a best seller with 500 copies. So they were around.
