Security level was so great... You really felt like you were singlehandedly assaulting a fortress.
I love how in the other levels' music, each instrument had multiple phrases and movements that seems to reflect the mostly flatter design (except 4 and 5), compared to how this track is like one movement that gets looped and layered on with the other instruments and how that reflects the mostly spiraling vertical nature of 8.
First time you walk in from the elevator to this level, feeling the station rumbling under you as it counts down to self-destruction, you look up that giant shaft and see that giant central pillar up to the connector to the bridge, surrounded by Flier-Bots, you really got the sense with this song that you were getting close to the final confrontation with SHODAN. Getting close to the finale of both the story and the game.
Time to roll up your sleeves and climb that thing before the whole station goes.
It's also the first place where Shodan's influence is absolute. Not a trace of humanity anywhere in it, right down the architecture.
Security is the first level where you really feel like you're in Shodan's world. The verticality of it, and the robots everywhere; the music really enforces that final act vibe.
It still gives me goose bumps and boiling blood! God knows how many times I wandered in front of the shelves staring at this weird cyborg on the boxcover in the shop. It was as if, somehow,.... somehow,.... I knew I was going to get hooked. And I did!
That story gave me goosebumps
I think that better cover will be that shot before main menu
There will never be a game that hit me with such amazing impact like System Shock did, it's one of a kind.
Uniquely, this is the only song in the game that conveys something more along the lines of resolute courage and desperate heroism rather than the terror, malice, hidden horrors, and trembling tension of levels and areas like the maintenance deck, or the techno-bops of the medical, executive, flight, and reactor levels.
I felt that it conveyed finality, final push you have to struggle through, this desperate small chance of victory dancing in front of you, just barely out of reach. But at the same time it was (as you said) courage and confidence.
Well yeah it's the final level before encountering shodan on the bridge. After everything Shodan did to you up until that point you're just ready to kill her and rip apart any of her minions that get in your way
Trully a Win Her or Die thing! And you fell you're really going to get Her!
This song really fits the mood of the level. I was really impressed.
Getting close to the bridge in security where shodan is at with this soundtrack playing feels like it’s getting close to end shodan at the bridge through cyberspace & save the earth. As citadel station is going to explode on a time limit so better hurry to get to the bridge.
I need this game! And maybe a computer.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
so, how many of you managed to get into the pillar with rocketboots and speedbooster?
When you have 3:15 to catch your flight, on the other side of the airport.
This feels a lot like motivational music, gives the same energy as the Summit music from Celeste.
I also love the BGM of "Cyberspace" & "Executive"!
Based on the Doom and DN3D sound card comparison vids this might be a Yamaha Waveforce DB50 or DB60 with some custom patches. Enhanced Edition seems to (try to) use the SC-55 version but it sounds worse and doesn't play some parts.
zerker doot ca/misc/synth/ has some comparisons.
Intense security are pretty dangerous better watch your back
that stereo!!
Truly one of the if not the best song i've ever heard. Makes me believe in God
This is the best version of this song, but the tempo is slightly too high.
It sounds sad. I woke up in a empty mansion in Ohio at my dad's and to the odds they forget about me and went on vacation I searched the whole house and I couldn't find anything 😢
Kinda a stealth song
You are right past self : )
Nothing stealthy about this mission. Take 2 steps out the first door and you're swarmed by flier bots and mutant cyborgs
I guess what I meant to say is while this level is very chaotic the song alone could be for something stealthy, at least the beginning
For sure
It sure has that Deus Ex vibe
This track sounds familiar, as if some of its parts were used later in Deus Ex 1.
0 dislikes :)
now Diego, Shodan, and Shodan's Elite guard
why's the spotify version slowed down so much?
