Yeah... This is why I love both of them. Confident, relaxed...and one thing that Maxence does particularly well is DANCE the music. If you blocked out Melissa, and turned off the sound, you could still see the beats, rythem, and phrasing of the music in his movment. Brilliant. Melissa, well...what's to say. Nothing phases her. She's like the perfect muse.
With the exception of the section at 1.44 Ms Rutz decides the form of every figure. He's leading in the sense that he tell Ms Rutz what direction to turn at the open of the figure, but she takes if from there. It's good leading in the sense that he knows she is much better than him and he gives her space, which is what you have to do with a strong partner - its what wins J & J's :-)
If you ever watch Melissa Rutz in ANY J & J its obvious she is very musically aware. She always try's to get a lead that allows her to exploit changes in syncopation and phrasing. Rob Royston is another very musically aware dancer, Kyle Redd too. The trick with J & J is knowing how musically aware your partner is, and if they are better, giving them the space to let them take over. That's what is unique about WCS as a dance.
I don't believe she is leading the whole dance. I think there are moments where her creativity shines through, and he picks up on it.. then goes with it. I've watched this dance 100's of times too. Try watching only Maxence without paying attention to Melissa. He is one-of-a-kind as a leader. Note.. I'm a follower. This dance is in my top 5 best dances to watch. They are just dancing and not messing around.
WCS has as a dance changed significantly in the last decade. It's become separated from its Swing and Blues roots and become a 'beat' dance like ballroom.
@@grumpyoldman1618 I did not care for the song, but they really made up for the music 🎵. I agree with the timing and beat of the music. I see a lot of dancers 👯♂️ that they know all the fancy turns but to me they are just throwing their partner around. I stay clear of them.
I have watched this one a hundred times. still one of my faves. perfect example of why I prefer freestyle dancing to the rehearsed routines. love it!
fabulous!
