Japan has special relationship with Manipur as many Japanese soldiers died in manipur during 2nd world War. There are Japan War memorial museum, cemetery in Manipur. Japanese dignitaries, families of the death soldiers come and pay their homage.

One more information i want to add here, as Gupta said in the beginning about Azad Hind Fauj army aided by Japanese troops, so in NER, especially in the state of Manipur still we can find Japanese families or colonies setteled during that time. So Japanese government is interested to uplift and develop those colonies. And also lot of Japanese martyr dooms still exists in the state created during that time.
