I saw this story to its end for the first time today. Your tribute is so beautiful. When Ellidibus was kneeling with the stones, weeping that it was over, that the last Ascian had fallen and that his mission was over, failed, and in the end... all he could do was weep for what they'd all lost... it got me. Well done, Chronicles.
I think Emet-Selch's, and by default, Elidibus' storyline this expansion gave rise to a moral question that we as players were forced to confront. Who is right? Are we? Are the Ascians? Is anyone truly justified? Emet-Selch said it best, "The victor shall write the tale and the vanquished become its villain." As it is said in reality, 'history is written by the victors.' But naratives like those of Shadowbringers bring that into question. Were the Ancients justified in their actions? They believed the lesser sacrifice was necessary for the betterment of all. They're fighting not only to restore the world to what it is supposed to be but to survive as well. It isn't specifically implied but the sundering made it hard for them to... "recharge" for lack of a better term. Lahabrea is a epitome of this. Powerful as the unsundered were they weren't without an end to their mana reserves. And, although we are noted as being a member of the Convocation, we side with what the Ascians refer to as lesser beings. Other than ourselves, Gaia, Halmarut, Altima and maybe a couple more unknowns that's it. We are effectively commiting the very act that we're supposed to be condemning them for... genocide. So, long winded as this comment is, if you look at it with clear eyes we're no better than they are. The only difference being, by and large, is that it's like a parasite killing its host to take over. Now, if you think about it we as Azem will never be complete because we've killed off the means by which we can even 'collect' the rest of our fragmented soul. Sucks when you think about it.
“The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day. But you are not here to see it.” ......turns into a sobbing mess. Emet walking into the fire with his final words playing was the perfect ending to this tribute. Great job on another lovely video!
