Studied and lived in Zwolle in the 90’s. Now my little girl is doing the same thing right now. She lives in the same area as I did (Assendorp) Just came back from a visit and walked under the Sassenpoort into the city a few hours ago. The vibe is still excellent and feels like home.

I'm disappointed you still haven't been to 's-Hertogenbosch although Zwolle is a lot more beautiful than I remember it.

      @@JanicasJourneys Finally 😜
Best time though is summer of course or during the carnaval (thats is an experience like no other but for 3 days the town is incapacitated and even gets a new name (Oeteldonk) and its own mayor). There will be millions of visitors but "normal live" comes to a standstill. You wont see much of the town though or all the museums. Oeteldonk is unique even for the Netherlands because everybody is expected to wear the same cloths, symbolizing equality and you will be amazed how crazy dutch people can get when all "doe normaal"-mode is off.
Just a little tip. The original designer of "midcentury modern" designs/houses is a man called Gerrit Rietveld and the original house is in Den Bosch, just on the side/behind the Citadel that for sure you going to visit. Next to the citadel (5-star shaped fort), is "het kruithuis" (gunpowder storage) which is now a museum of modern arts as well. They are within 100 meters from eachother.
The famous "Bolwoningen" (tree houses) are in Den Bosch as well but far out of the inner-city. But very nice to cycle there because Den Bosch is one of the towns with the best bicycle infra structure (even bike high ways) and an (almost) carfree inner-city. If you have the time, you can take a cyling tour through the dunes and forest close by where u can see (semi) wild horses as well.
And don't forget the "Brabants museum", Bosch museum (first famous Dutch painter), Bastion Oranje, the boat tours UNDER the city, Zwanenbroeders huis and, of course, the Sint Jan Cathedral that is so unique for so many reasons (the pipe organ, graves on the floor, Maria statue). You can actually book a tour with "kring vrienden van Den Bosch" that shows all the things many locals don't even know. And don't forget, the city has the most restaurants and bars, basically on every street corner in the old inner-city that functions as an open air mall. And under the townhall (and hotel Central) you have the old "gewelven" (cellar) where you can eat as well.
And no, I don't get paid for it.😜 but I am really curious what you think of my hometown in comparison to all the other cities you visited.
