The storm rolled in like a dark curtain, shrouding the small town of Ravenswood in an impenetrable veil of rain and shadow. It was the kind of night that made you want to stay indoors, curled up by the fire with a good book and a cup of tea. But for Emily, it was a night like any other. She had to work.
As she drove through the deserted streets, the rain drumming against her windshield like a thousand tiny fingers, she felt a sense of unease creeping over her. It wasn't just the storm that was unsettling - it was the feeling that she was being watched.
At first, she thought it was just her imagination. But as she turned onto Main Street, she caught a glimpse of a figure standing in the doorway of the old abandoned movie theater. It was a tall, gaunt figure with eyes that glowed like embers in the dark.
Emily's heart raced as she pulled into the parking lot of the convenience store where she worked. She had always hated working the night shift, but it was a job, and she needed the money. As she stepped out of the car and into the rain, she felt a chill run down her spine.
The store was quiet, the only sound the soft hum of the fluorescent lights overhead. Emily restocked the shelves and rang up the occasional customer, all the while keeping a nervous eye on the clock. It was going to be a long night.
But as the hours dragged on, the storm outside seemed to intensify. The rain pounded against the windows like a relentless drumbeat, and the wind howled through the streets like a chorus of the damned. Emily's nerves were stretched to the breaking point.
And then, just as she was starting to think that things couldn't get any worse, the lights flickered and died. The store was plunged into darkness, the only sound the creaking of the old building and the relentless pounding of the rain.
Emily's heart was racing as she fumbled for the flashlight she kept behind the counter. She swept the beam around the store, the shadows cast by the faint light making it seem like the very walls were moving. And then, she saw it. A figure, tall and gaunt, standing in the doorway.
This time, there was no mistaking it. The figure was real, and it was coming for her.
