    I’ve been looking forward to this video! I picked up a pair after shortly chatting with you and since April 20th I’ve already put 170 miles on them. I have a pretty extensive rotation but they’re the only shoe I’ve been reaching for lately. With my shoes I like to let the miles do the talking. Right now it’s the shoe of the year for me.

      Awesome to hear…. I’m glad you are enjoying them. This is currently almost shoe of the year for me… there is one I am reaching for more for road running…. But the VN3 is the more versatile pick.

    Can’t wait for all of the versus daily trainer videos. I just bought the SL2 (Lucid Lemon/Black colorway) and the Supernova Rise (same colorway as yours) yesterday. They should arrive later this week and can’t wait to test each shoe. I plan to use the SL2 as my go-to daily trainer and the Rise as my non-plated long run and recovery effort shoe. What an exciting time for the daily trainer market now after all the hype on the super shoes earlier in the year. Thank you for the continued high quality content.

      I'm not sure when the SL 2 will be here in Taiwan. I went to the flagship Adidas store here in Taipei yesterday and they had no idea. The SL2 isn't on their inventory yet even.
      I'll have a 200mi review of the Supernova Rise this week. It's the one shoe I'm reaching for more than the VN3, though the VN3 is the more versatile trainer.
      SL2 + SNR combo will be very hard to beat. I'm planning on using them together the same as you. I'll have some deep dive video on using the two shoes together towards the end of June or in July. Alot of reviews and vs to get through first this month.
      Stay tuned...so much content coming this month, nearly all of it review content. 🤙🏻

    Love these. I had them from 1, but these are much better. So, I love the old-school approach as I'm 60 with 40 years of running. This shoe reminds me of the shoes I ran in back in the day with better foam. Yes, it rolls more, but it is still a fantastic daily trainer with no plate. Puma is killing it! Thanks for the review.

    I've run in all 3 versions of the Velocity (version 1 = 650 km, version 2 = 1,200 km over two shoes with the second pair still in use, version 3 = 300 km and still in use). Each version felt very different to the others, but all had very good versatility. Version 1 was probably the softest and most flexible with an amazing step-in feel. Version 2 felt firmer yet more cushioned. The mid-sole still felt flexible (maybe slightly less than version 1) and the step-in feel was possibly the best of the three. Version 3, however, feels stiffer and firmer even after a break in period. The step-in feel is definitely not as good but it's still very comfortable. The grip on all three, of course, is unbeatable. If I had to pick a favourite, I'd probably go with version 2, but I'm really enjoying version 3 and it's serving its purpose really well.
    Your review seems very fair and there is clearly a lot of thought put into your videos. When version 3 first came out, I watched an initial thoughts video where the reviewers dismissed the shoe and said that it wasn't worthy of a full review. Their view was that you were better off with the Mach 6, Rebel v4 or Novablast 4 because they had more bounce and/or cushion (to be fair, they are all great shoes although the Rebel v4 doesn't work for my specific mechanics/preferences). My issue with their dismissive conclusion (which they are perfectly in the right to have) is that I mostly use the Velocity 3 for easy and recovery days so I want shoes that are not too mushy and will let me run at the pace I need to rather than tempting me to increase my speed. The Velocity 3s do this brilliantly, but they also don't feel like they are not holding back if I'm doing a progressive build, surges or strides.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 месяца назад

      I saw this reviews as well. It was frustrating. I found the VN3 to be wonderful from start to finish. The first 40k were a little hard, not bad just took some work, but once the shoe broke in it became something all together different . Versatility is the key here. Really a shoe that can go anywhere and do anything. It is really quite wonderful.
      The firmness of the shoe is a key feature, IMO, it adds to the all rounder feel of the shoe. Especially for faster road running and anything off of the road.

    I run all winter in Atlantic Canada. It’s not the coldest part of the world, but it’s colder than most, and light snow/black ice/wet roads are a daily issue in the winter, and I live in an area where hills are omnipresent and unavoidable. While I haven’t used the PVN3 yet, my PVN2s are pretty much my go-to shoe for running when it gets sloppy or slippy here. The warm upper is also a benefit on cold days.
    The only shoes in my rotation that approach them as kilometre-eaters are the Saucony Axon 3s, which I feel are a woefully underrated versatile daily trainer.

    I have a pair of Puma Magnify Nitro 2 and have been very pleasantly surprised at how good they’ve been. They are very stable yet responsive and easy to wear. The Nitro foam is slightly softer than Lightstrike Pro but performs in a similar way. I’ve seen some priced at £99.00 here in the U.K. which represents real value.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  4 месяца назад +2

      I agree. TPEe Nitro foam is slightly softer than LSP and has slightly less resilience… it’s possibly a better raining foam due to that.
      I didn’t even get into the price, as it’s not something I talk about often on the channel… but all Pumas, especially the VN3 offer amazing value at full retail, but given all the sales on them to be found it gets even better.

    • @RichardHitchcock-ig4lj
      @RichardHitchcock-ig4lj 4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, the Puma foam does provide more protection than LSP, and the Magnify has more of it. As a “heavier” (90kgs) runner and because of superior grip and more traditional geometry I actually prefer the Pumas to the ASICS Superblasts, which surprises me.

    • @SagasuRunning

Three shoes in my current rotation: Boston 12, Takumi Sen 9, and Deviate Nitro Elite 2. The latter is probably the only shoe grippy enough to survive these trails. I've been loving the Pegasus Trail 4! Best road to Trail shoe I've ever had, and beats the pants off the Pegasus 40. The react in the Trail 4 is so much better than the react in the peg 40. The Peg Trail is fine. I’ve had every version, except the new PT5. The issue is that trail outsoles on the road are not fun to run in and the Peg outsole on the trail doesn’t match a top tier trial outsole at all. It’s just too much compromise overall. I do like them as light hikers though.

    Tried these on and two things stood out. The forefoot platform is super narrow and I felt like my foot was falling off the side of the shoe. Secondly, and I know you've mentioned they break in, but the bottom EVA layer just felt unbelievably stiff/hard. I wonder if I would have liked this shoe if Puma's EVA was similar to Lightstrike 2.0.... I was able to find a cheap pair of Adizero SLs (first version) which I've really warmed to after 50km or so. The midsole is starting to flex and soften a little and I find they really come alive at faster paces. Similar to the VN3, I think a lot of people (RUclips reviewers) dismiss these types of shoes (EVA based) because they can feel pretty average initially. I'll definitely be ordering the SL2!

    • @SagasuRunning

      Pumas are narrow, not overly so, but similar to older Adidas lasts. The Puma EVA actually reminds more of old Lightstrike EVA, the 2.0 is much more airy.

      I’ve talked about this in my monthly update videos but I have NB a shot in 2024 as it looked like they had some great models. I’ve been very disappointed by every NB model I’ve tried to the point where I won’t touch another until next year…. Even then it depends on if they change their design direction…. They Nair don’t work for me AT ALL!

    My only (slight) disagreement is that I felt like the Velocity was near-perfect right out of the box and only took about 5 miles (not 50) to feel completely broken in. But I absolutely agree that it's a shoe that does well on every type of surface and for every type of run.

      Interesting. I vividly remember hitting 40k in these and they changed drastically on the run. I talked about it in my initial impressions video. Regardless, if they feel great out of the box (which they did to me too, just a bit stiff and up on a platform of foam) then even better! You really can’t go wrong with this shoe.

    I tried this VN3 in the store and found the whole shoe is longer than I expected.

      That definitely changes as it molds to your foot. I was worried about that initially… but 100miles in and it’s a non issue.

    Thanks for doing these videos. My Novablast is bottoming out. I needed a couple of really good daily trainers and based on your videos I went for Velocity Nitro 3 and the SL2. Since I have credit with a shoe store I might get a pair of Hoka Mach 6 for intervals and hill repeats just for fun. Will you be reviewing them as well. One pair of shoes I wish you would review are Puma Deviate Nitro 3 and then comparing them to Superblast 2 and Speed 4. I know I am asking a lot.

      I have multiple videos about the Mach 6 on the channel, including an update as to why they don't work for me. Also, I just picked up a pair of Puma Deviate Nitros 3s, so expect content soon. Lastly, planning on the Superblast 2 as well, as soon as I can get a pair....will be doing "vs" videos comaring the DN3, SB2, ES4...in all the combos.
      I think I got all of your requests....haha.

      @@SagasuRunning what a coincidence. DN3 Vs Superblast 2 wow lol. I hope I get to see you your Vs videos before those shoes are sold out. I’m on the fence about Mach 6 tbh. If it’s just another daily trainer that’s just a bit snappy it’ll be useless to get it.

      The SL2 is a MUCH better performance trainer over the Mach 6…. Better upper, better foams and better geometry.

    How are these compared to the 2s? For me they were too warm and held moisture. The toe box in the 2s were narrow too

      Sorry, never ran in the 2. The VN3 is my first Puma shoe… ever. Running in them here in hot and humid Taipei… I don’t find the upper too heavy at all. There are definitely lighter uppers but it does just fine with hot/humid running.

    Puma is one of the few brands I dont own a pair, because they were "gone" such a long time. I think they price politics is also one the biggest pro's.
    I need a lot of cushion in the midfoot/forfoot and a low drop, otherwise my big toe joint goes crazy after 5km. It has not be soft, just cushioned. Puma seems to be a canditat for that. Especially since I have so many shoes for certain use cases but basically no workhorse for bad days ...lol.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  4 месяца назад +1

      Wow… a brand you don’t own! Didn’t expect that. The Puma foam stack is not soft, it is well cushioned though. I have hallux limitus and my big toe joint is always something I need to work on keeping flexibility in… the Pumas give it no issue at all.
