  • With predictions of polar bears being extinct in 50 years, On Thin Ice follows bears as they emerge from their dens and navigate their rapidly changing environment. On Thin Ice shows how the frozen expanses of the Arctic are shrinking at an unprecedented rate, with the very survival of the polar bear literally on thin ice.
Over the last year, producer/presenter Greg Grainger has mounted a series of expeditions across the Arctic to document the plight of the polar bear.
Researcher Nick Lunn tranquillises polar bears from his helicopter, cataloguing the diminishing health of the Western Hudson Bay bear population and finding the remains of a bear thought to have died from starvation.
Close and wild encounters with rangers from the Polar Bear Alert team as they chase bears out of the township of Churchill, built in the middle of the bears’ migration route. Follow one family of bears that have to be darted after they attempt to break into a building food for food, while another bold bear becomes trapped inside a garbage truck.
Hungry bears and husky dogs fighting one another at an isolated weather station north of Norway.
Polar bears in the wild as they capture seals and devour whale carcasses.
There is no more iconic symbol of strength and adaptation to survival than the polar bear.... an animal so superbly suited to its environment that it thrives in the most hostile corners of the planet - until now.
On Thin Ice - A moving account of Polar bears struggling to survive as climate change melts their summer hunting ground - the Arctic sea ice.

    • @Lassisvulgaris
      @Lassisvulgaris 6 лет назад +2

Not quite. There was natural pollution from volcanos (and still is), but now changes are much faster (check methrological data). Human pollution comes on top of natural pollution. Don't come and tell that 7.000.000.000 (+) has no influence on the climate.
As for larger animals, they were extinct as the human race spread, like in North America and Australia....

@@Lassisvulgaris that's what the people what you to believe. The same people that invest in so called cleaner engery want you to believe. (which I'm not sure it's that much cleaner) and i know it's much more expensive. Fact is the world has always been changing and always will. There isn't a known way to stop or even slow it down. We need to take care of our animals. Their doing study's for what?? They know what the issues are. Just feed the damn bears.

    • @Lassisvulgaris

@@captainmarvel9610 Who is "they", the people that invest in so called cleraner energy...? Could you please specify, by providing some evidence, like documents and other sources (not RUclips videos, of course....)?
I am Norwegian, and we have potential hydro energy to support the whole country. It hardly gets cleaner, and is efficient and cheap. However, it is difficult to put all rvers through hydro-plants. Norway is also an oil producing country, and the money is invested into a pension-fund, right now about 100 billion USD. In addition. Norway has no foreign debt. This fund now guarantees that people who are laid off, or in quarantine, will receive 100% wages for 20 days, during the Corona-crisis.....
Hopefully, Thorium will replace Uranium in reactors, as it has a faster rate of decay.
I agree that climate has always been changing, and always will. However, as I stated, 7 billion people will have an iinfluence, which comes in adition to natural pollution. Look at Spitsbergen, wher the average temperature has been above normal, for 12 years, until now.
Today, I think the biggest threat to the world, is plastic, as it decays very slowly, and also is ground town to micro.plastic, which can be found in most aquatic animals. I don't want to have my food filled with plastics. It gives me constipation.....

They blame us for global warming and hide the real truth !!! CHEM-TRAILS, are sprayed world wide, the 1% /NWO states that the spraying of chem-trails is to reflect the sun and keep the planet cooler, that is a LIE !!! The aluminum, barium and strontium particles are mixed with water, then sprayed out of jets. For a number of years you could see them hanging in our skies but, not now... Now there is a permanent haze over the earth that blocks 20% of sun light, they call it shading. That's why mold and fungus growth is going wild, the chem-trails are no longer visible as they are being sprayed because of the shading/haze, also that's the reason our skies are no longer a deep blue, science claims if they stopped spraying today, that it would take 50 years to clear up the damage they have caused. Worst of all is that the chem-trails are a green house gas, remember how cool it became during the night ? The day's heat would rise at night and escape thru the atmosphere. The heat can no longer escape, due to the thick layer of green house gas caused by the chem-trails. Look it up, check it out for yourself, then spread the word.... GOD Bless the USA...

Then the tourisium could continue though the summer. It would not be much if you added a little extra money to the tour so they could buy dog food. No reason any person or animal who is part of the United States should have to starve. 1 bag would of filled the mother and cubs just put it a few miles away with a small trail leading the bears to the feeding area. You also have so many moose etc hit by cars dump those carcasses that can not be fed to people out to the bears. I am sick of hearing global warming will make us lose the polar bear. Yes work on global warming but feed the dam bears till you figure it out so we do not lose then. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. A thousand thanks for highlighting this...my heart bleeds because of greedy people..i live in a shack by the sea..i gather fallen wood..i am vegan...eat seaweed..and other wild plants and depend on aloe vera plant for medicine...sadly gross fatness is taking over..except of course where there are famines and hurricanes etc... .im 75 and as fit as a fiddle...i intend to live till 100...this vile and constant gobbling of garbage "food"...it makes me want to vomit...its so ugly to behold..where will it end?

If they so worry bout those bears why they don't help a lil and fence an area where they could stay and every now and then those bears could be fed with meat and fat so they could help them to survive it won't hurt them if they get a lil help to get food if they are thin in a way that they could die well feed them and give them help all they want is food and a 🐻 with a full stomach will not hurt anyone they'll be to entertain with the meat that they won't mind anyone #feedthebears

Where is this happening? According to the Canadian Ice Service (CIS) in Hudson Bay and the Hudson Bay Wildlife Center, there has been only 1 (one) year in last 20 where ice melted the way it is portrayed here. Above the arctic circle in Alaska, Polar Bear populations have been increasing for the past 30 years.
