My last deployment was Syria in 2016. Now I ride a desk, and I'll retire at the end of next year, but I got plenty of some in the earlier half of my career. Actually, I once stumbled upon a comment which suggested that the government make it illegal to protest against speakers on college campuses or put trigger warnings on things like books.
Freedom of speech allows for both the speeches and the protests to happen, as long as the protests aren't violent. Arresting the protestors if the rally wasn't violent would violate their freedom to peaceably assemble.
Colleges and universities are companies so they too can set whatever rules they like as long as they don't conflict with the laws.

I wouldn't say that it's completely hypocritical, it's also just that Obama has earned the benefit of the doubt in certain situations and with certain kinds of out of context quotes, while Trump has not.
That said though, while I think Obama is better than Trump, I'm not a big fan of these quotes.
But these kinds of statements are a problem with nearly every American politician IMO, so it's not that much of a knock on Obama.
