The Roland Virtual accordion has no reeds, BUT is all controlled by pressure sensitive sensors. The good thing about the Roland is that it can be played like an ordinary acoustic, the bellows are needed to produce the sound and act like "normal" bellows - hard pull/push = loud and slight pressure = soft. However, the bellows sensitivity can be set to "Fixed High" for performances like in this situation, open air and you need to be heard. In this case, there is no loud/soft, just loud.
that's a Roland MIDI accordion, and he is obviously using amplified digital samples (you can hear it on the bass), so when not using the actual reeds there's no bellow action required.
Please, it is not a digital, it is a virtual electronic. All sounds/voices are produced by the accordion via many micro processors. The voices are not digital but almost exact recordings taken from orchestral instruments. The Roland has it's own inbuilt speakers and does not need to be connected to a power supply to use. Internal batteries give 8 hours continual performance. There are no reeds in this at all. It can be connected via a midi cable to an external arranger, but is not itself digital
