Well done, she is coming along nicely. I was wonderinhg when I would get to see another progress video and hey presto here it is. You look very summery and I bet you are enjoying the warmer weather while it lasts. I love how accurate all your work is, it surely must be an inspiration to other watching your chanel. Cheers Ian
About the waterline, laser line marks. You can measure off of different points on the drawings/frames, to get a mark within a mm. Or average out the difference, then look at it installed, for the fair line. Just like the shipwrights of yesteryear would do. Take care from Northern Canada.
Hi Panu, I can see that you haven't been letting the grass grow under your feet. The amount of progress you have made it's amazing wont be long before you set up the keel.👍
Frames, bulwark and side decks are looking great! Good job sorry to hear about the slowdown with work. I wish all the best for you and your family and friends ! Cheers from Canada
Your work is sensational Panu. Very impressive. I appreciate you sharing what is going right and wrong with this process. There is a lot being taken into consideration just with the frames. It’s fun sitting on the side lines, guessing, and then you guiding us through your process.
You're Back! I am was happy to see another video from my favorite boat builder. Thank you for the explanation of the the "next steps and the problems you are addressing and why. When you are standing there among the ribs of the boat it really shows off the size of what you are building. I hope your local economy improves so that it reduces your stress and somehow still lets you work on the sailboat. Another well done video. Cant wait to see the next.
Hey Panu, fantastic progress and very exciting. Tolerances are a real challenge - and you have been working to extremely tight tolerances with CNC that surpasses anything that material suppliers can achieve in the mass market.😀👍
Cold mold boat I see, very good decision. Are you going to put layers of fiber sheets on the top most layer? I'm so excited! Looking foreward to see your boat sailing!
It's nice to see you again still involved in boat building. Funny to hear an architect talk about millimeters in tolerance. A man said a little teasingly that in house building there is a tolerance of ten decimetres per metre, and sometimes I was ready to agree. I bought here in Sweden 22 mm thick pine moldings and discovered that they were only 21 mm. The seller explained that below one hundred millimeters a tolerance of +/- one millimeter applies. However, I never found any moldings of 22 and 23 mm.
Yeah, buildings have bigger tolerances of course. I've been generally using 0,4mm "gap" between those CNC joints in wood (0,2 + 0,2 on each of the joint side) and that has been working great. But yeah, difference of 0,6mm in thickness of plywood is still in acceptable range. And wood of course varies a lot just due to air moisture level changes. I just need to take all that into account when making things...
So you also find multitools irritating. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because they always feel and sound like you're wrestling a giant angry mosquito! 😂. Great progress. Looking good. Cheers
The frames align with the bulwark very well but I will check the waterline markers before gluing them in. As for the planking surface, I think I still need to sand them a little and check the alignment with batten or something.
Yes, cold moulded! It should be something like 23mm if I remember right. First strip planking and then 2 x 2,8mm veneers (those you saw in the video) on top. Last layers is protective fiberglass.
And btw im really happy you have a wife, so you are propper dude, not like the rest of europeans!!! Would be really happy to help move your project forward...
The base model of the boat is Tanton yacht designs "Millennium Falcon", which is a one-off steel boat made in 90's. (you can find it with google) That design was then modified for wood-epoxy. Little shallower, little wider, the basic structure principles etc. Rest of the design and all the CNC cut files and construction method etc. has been done myself.
Dude, you are doing everything too long, you just have to divide your process into small operations and execute... I wish to help your construction for free, as i have time. But am Russian, so i cant get visa to Finland fo a month with some reason)
It is absolutely unbelievable and amazing the amount of work you did and how advanced the project is. Kudos Panu!!!
Great to see you back, the progress on the hull is looking awesome.

Thank you for doing this, your videos are the highlight of my subscription feed! Cant wait to see more videos with wood working on the boat.
Thank you so much! 🙂
I pulled a muscle in my neck watching you move those frames! great job - you do what you can with what you've got
Great progress

Amazing work!!!
Nice work Panu. Thanks 👍
Loved to see the work done! Good job!

Hienoa työtä!
Kiits! 🙏🏼

Yes! There will be strip planking and then two layers of those 2,8mm veneers. Fiberglass on top for protection.

Another great video.
Hyvä meininki!
A little progress every day and you'll get there eventually.
Exactly! 💪🏼
So you also find multitools irritating. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because they always feel and sound like you're wrestling a giant angry mosquito! 😂. Great progress. Looking good. Cheers
That's accurate description! And although it's pretty safe, it can bite you quite bad! 😂
How are you working to align/fare the top/bottom of the frames?
The frames align with the bulwark very well but I will check the waterline markers before gluing them in.
As for the planking surface, I think I still need to sand them a little and check the alignment with batten or something.
👍👍
.....so the hull will be "cold moulded"? How thick will the skin be?
Yes, cold moulded! It should be something like 23mm if I remember right. First strip planking and then 2 x 2,8mm veneers (those you saw in the video) on top. Last layers is protective fiberglass.

Where did you get the plan for this boat ??

I wish I could do this full time. 😅 But not for a while at least. I do when I have time and try to do at least something every day. 🙂
well done great progress
