On Dewalt DCD790 there is clockwise opening torx20 screw. It's very tight there. Heat helps if it will not get open easy. I just used some heat and get broken chuch off! Looks like 1/2" thread in chuck.
There is no rivet on the new models, what you see is a step down that replaces the screw. But unfortunately the chuck is now torqued to a higher spec and you must remove the shaft otherwise you will damage the transmission.
@@powertoolsrepair I tried that ccw "lefty loosy" - methoid. No success. Broke five t20 bits and one torx 20 screwdriver. Maybe heat is needed now? Maybe it opens clockwise? Can't do much more unsuccessful tryings - I am running out of torx bits....
Try to heat it, screw is counter clockwise, chuvk id clockwise

@@powertoolsrepair Thanks a lot. You are great Friend. It opened just by those tips. Heat helped. Now I'm searching for a new reliable chuck. Maybe Makita -models are reliable...
Drilling screw head or unscrewing chuck with lot of force and pullint screw head that way. Some times I disassemble gear assy and insert assy with chuck in vise to hold it strong
Don't worry about it the new models do not have a retaining screw. Just make sure the threads are dry with absolutely no oil or grease when you torque them up.
Thanks. Works fine with a DCD 780. 😊
Happy to know that video helped
SHORT AND EASY DIY VIDEO, THANK YOU!!!!

Good job I had to cut one off a Makita last week
I hate when I need to cut them

Not seen any with rivet inside... What model it is?

What do you do when chuck screw is sheared of ,can’t unscrew

DCD 796 doesn’t have a central screw depends which type 1 & 10 doesn’t have one.
