I think the biggest problem I have with the shotguns is that Skif reloads like he's tucking each shell in for bedtime. I've yet to find a saiga, so I'm still working with the spas-12 and the RAM-2.
There's 2 free saigas, one is dropped during part of the main quest in Zaton, the other is in Yantar which you can grab at anytime. It is very expensive to repair and upgrades require going up north to Yaniv (which further increases repair cost). But the Saiga is 9 rounds box mag (13 if you find the extended mag in Jupiter) with the same rate of fire as the SPAS so it can be a beast of a gun. Especially with the recoil reduction upgrades. But it'll probably cost you 100 in repair per shot. Slug rounds would also reduce durability per shot even more.
IRL, you can fire buckshot and birdshot out of a "slug gun" barrel with a rifled bore. You'll just get bad patterns. The rotation from the rifling (the very thing that makes slugs more accurate) causes patterns to dissipate faster. 3:26 If they'd figured out how to do slugs properly, an ACOG would be fine on a dedicated slug gun. Anomaly got that right (though it downplays the effectiveness of slugs just like the old games did). A real 12-gauge slug can bust the engine block of a Mack truck.
I really wanted to use shotgun. Dealing with Bloodsuckers pre veteran, the Toz was my go to. Since its melee and skirmishes a lot, the two shot wasnt a big deal. But against anything else, including people, the toz was.. very lackluster. When I got my first M860 Cracker, I was so hyped! It was a notable upgrade from the Toz. When I then got the one you mentioned with the magazine, I was extatic.Another notable upgrade. Shotguns as a weapon class is perhaps my favorite in stalker 2. Because each Tier is an easily notable upgrade. Boomstick is just junk. Toz gives bit more damage. M860 gives way more shots, but you have to pump. Spaz allow you to shoot as quick as you can click and Saiga reintroduces the magazine, kinda combining the 860 attachment with the rate of fire of the Spas. Shotguns are also very ammo efficient and plenty of ammo in the zone. So it was my choice of cheap but effective weapon.
The Toz is ok for early game for sure, better than the boomstick at least...but oh yea, when i got that Cracker with the Mag, holy shit....vastly better lol
M860 is a great early shotgun after you leave the lesser zone and the magazine upgrade allows it to compete with the Spsa for all of the midgame and only falls off when you get to the final tier of shotguns of the Saiga and Ram
Nah, it falls off earlier than that. Even with the speed of the mag reload, the low rate of fire kills it. Being able to mag dump into something's face is very important, and the SPAS wins hands down. Until you get a Saiga, of course.
Heya I.C, for your next weapon review, I wonder if you would consider showcasing it to include different upgrade choices and how they affect the weapon, as well as demonstrating it's efficacy with different ammo types? I feel like this could be the difference between a good though somewhat basic review, into a comprehensive and great overview. 'Appreciate the upload nonetheless, and subbed to the channel just recently. Cheers 🍻
Hey man, I think you need to play more with these things than you are before putting these things out. Saying that slugs won't OHK at a decent range with headshots just.... learn to adjust for drop and I haven't found an enemy it won't drop to the head yet.
I just tested this on veteran against med-level monolith soldiers. It does not 1 shot headshot beyond 1 range which is roughly 10 yards on headshot. I will upload as proof soon.

I found a saiga after like 14 hours of gameplay. It's early-mid game i think.

If you switch caliber to slugs it has way more range than the stat ui portrays. Im still killing enemies in one shot at 20-30 meters with slug
Armored enemies on veteran?

Does the Ram/Texan have an upgrade that allows it to fire double-shots?
@@judsongaiden9878 no but the Ram/Texan allows every other shot to be a semi auto fire before needing a quick pump.

I found a saiga wandering around early I dumped the spas so fast the shells reloads so slow on non mag shotguns

I'm 100 hours in and can't get anyone to upgrade my saiga 12...why can't any of the bases upgrade some of my armour or guns?
That's weird, Yaniv and Duty's hg which is the cement factory can upgrade almost everything.
If I recall correctly you'll need the tech in Pripyat.
Yaniv Station and Pripyat techs are the only ones who can Upgrade the Saiga, Exosuits, and various other Top-Tier gear.
@@AuzziSoda doesn't the one at malachite also do everything?
@@danielwilke7574 They do quite a lot but it's been awhile since I've been to Malachite sorry.
