I became such a big fan of Dragon Quest after playing XI that I even tried to go through the process of translating X Online, and I don't even like MMOs.
They gradually have been probably starting with, finally, releasing 'Final Fantasy III' here in the U.S./West, yet doing it in 3D. Then there were other 2.5D games they did before. 😅
Which makes sense in a weird way since VIII is like the dark mirror image of IV. VIII is a story where the dark knight who follows orders is the hero; the paladin who goes his own way is a loser; instead of Baron we get Galbadia; instead of Mysidia's magic we get Esthar's tech; instead of a villain from outer space we get a villain from out of time. I've always wondered if the coincidences were intentional.
He's not wrong though, Pokemon games were just kinda looking like upscaled 3DS games for a good while there. It's only just starting to get better with Legends ZA, and not by much. Graphics aren't the most important thing to video games, but when the most profitable franchise in the world keeps putting out buggy messes with no visual polish, it's kind of embarrassing. Especially considering other monster collector games are starting to put up some pretty stiff competition, like Monster Hunter Stories.

I'm playing JRPGs since 90s and happy that folks like Dunkey popularizing genre and DQ series! I remember how it was awesome to see AVGN Earthbound episode! Keep it up guys. And of course I bought and playing DQ7R, completed the OG on PS1 (it was a loong game) and all other numerical DQ titles + many spin-offs, including DQB. Having a blast. Hope we'll see DQ8 Reimagined and DQ5 HD-2D.

Well Appalachian "hillbilly" vernacular is the closest us Americans have to "old King's English". Most everywhere else here, words were changed for whatever reason or evolved. My favorite "English" word to call someone is a "numpty". 😅
They are really good about incorporating linguistics of all varieties. Towns are often loosely themed to an equivalent real world countries in dq and they blend common language, expression, and accents in whenever they can
I played Dragon Warrior (Quest) I on NES WAY back in the day. Didn't play another one until XI. Now I'm frantically try to play all of them to make up for missed time. They really are great games.

@Kiosade were they? I hadn’t heard that, but it wouldn’t surprise me. That it was scrapped IS surprising, though, considering Trials of Mana, Romancing Saga 2, DQVII Reimagined all came off without a hitch. And were all really well received.

The argument of voice acting making games better is such an annoying one being thrown around, because it can absolutely RUIN even otherwise good games if it's not great. Heck, the English voice of Pauline in DK Bananza forced me to switch to Japanese because of how she pronounced "DK" every time ("dee- KAY?"). Pokémon games will be just fine with Undertale-y, Animal Crossing-y gibberish instead of full voice acting that just make the development even longer and more expensive, GF already has to cut so many corners with how frequently the games are forced to release.
