I may be crazy but I LOVED this toy as a kid. You put TWO pilots in it...TWO!!! It looks just like the vehicle in the movie and it was super easy to fly around and play with. Excellent video!
With almost 50 I started to collect the Kenner Toys from 1978-1984 a few days ago ... I know, that there is also '85 with POTF, but I don' t know yet, if I should start this, too. :-) Between '78 and '84 there is enough missing, that I didn't get as a child. I am happy like a kid again and looking forward for my little Star Wars future. :-) But back to the Bespin Cloud Car. This is the first (big) Kenner toy, that I have acquired since Xmas 1983 ... and I LOVE It, honestly! Sure, it is nostalgica coming back to my room, but this orange ship is such a simple, pure and cool toy - at least for me. I have to buy a second pilot on ebay, so that his colleague from '82 has a friend in the end. Then they can lift off! Star Wars rocks. This was my childhood (!)
The Cloud Car is a pretty sweet vehicle. I really dig the bright orange color and the sleek bullet design! And heck yes, every cloud car must have 2 pilots! That's the rules!!!
I got the Twin-Pod Cloud Car for Christmas in 1980 along with the Darth Vader action figure case, the Imperial Attack Base, the Star Destroyer, Yoda the Jedi Master board game, Snowspeeder, and the 15" IG-88. It was my third Star Wars Christmas in a row.
@@GQJedi Yes, it was. My sister and I still talk about all the times we checked the living room to see if "Santa" had made an appearance. We did that for several years in the 1970's... and then we learned the truth. I forgot to mention that I also got the Dagobah play set in 1980. I still have it with the original box.
They only made 3 real Bespin toys. This vehicle, the Slave 1 and Cloud City playset. Not a whole lot to acquire there. But I see why kids didn’t play with this. 🤣
@@GQJedi Same here bro😂 Slave 1 is the best of the 3 for sure since the Cloud City Playset isn't that great either. I am just collecting vintage Star Wars for 1,5 years now alongside the other lines I collect. So my SW collection isn't that big yet. But gotta be honest. They look great on display. I bought a sealed AT ST and opened it just to be sure to have a nice one without the discoloration. 🙈
I love it! I have a huge soft spot for the Cloud Car. Love that piece. My Uncle got it for me my birthday back in the day. I remember the box vividly. I do agree they coulda put a motor for a gun or something on it, or a landing gear system like the Y Wing but oh well, still great. Love the color, too. I'm restoring (basically, washing with dawn and tepid water) all my stuff and I still have that same one, complete.
Cloud Car is a pretty simple yet sweet toy for what it is. Not hating on it in the slightest. And sounds like you have an awesome Uncle!! A little soap and warm water goes a long way, man!
This was excellent Gq this was one of my favorite toys of all time everything empire was so great !! Right in my 7 year old groove . Perfect age to love all of this ..
Super jazzed to hear someone loves the Cloud Car without question! Lots to love in Empire, bro. Lots. And 7yrs old is definitely a sweet spot, no question.
Yeah it's really not the most exciting of ships, but I've always liked it for that STRIKING orange color. It really stands out amongst a sea of monotone grey ships and vehicles.
@@GQJedi The modern version packed it full of like secret missile compartments. And while it's not film accurate, you can close them up and really have the one from the film. But it does beg the question: Kenner def. was more about play value than Hasbro is today and they weren't opposed to doing non-film play features, why didn't they do that to make the cloud car more interesting?
A great review! I finally picked one up for my collection a few months back. It was never on the top of my list. But I have to say, I really don’t mind it. Its got a cool retro vibe to it. I appreciate It doesn’t have a great deal of play value, but I think it looks cool. Happy I scored it (finally). Really like the channel by the way!
I had one as a kid....star wars was kinda pase by this point...I was born in '81 and this would have been '86/'87 maybe? So mine held G.I. Joe's and often was used to try and take down Cobra's garage sale inherited DRAGUN!!! Haha, I wasn't around for Shogun Warriors either... But either from a garage/yard sale or older cousin I inherited a Dragun! Now, I'm a late 80's/early 90's kid....MOTU and Kenner Super Powers Collection were my first loves...then it was all G.I. Joe and Transformers and lastly Galoob & Hasbro WCW & WWF figures respectively. I did just pick up a LIKE NEW Cloud Car mint/complete today at an antique mall for $10!!! I WISH I could come across one of those Dragun Shogun Warriors for such a sweet deal!!!!
I'm not going to lie, the cloud car is not my favorite vehicle to play with back in the day. But today I appreciate it even more, especially the nostalgic value. 😉👍
I always thought it was sunset when they arrived on Bespin but it was sunrise I think. The Twin Pod Cloud car was really almost a mini rig it was so simple.
I like the color of it. Definitely has a 70s hue. Matches Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s cape. Do you know if it comes with inserts in the box or just comes in the box with papers?
When I got mine as a kid in the early 80s I really did like it. Like you said, there were no pilots so I used my Bespin Guards. Honestly I did not really know the difference back then. No real wow factor but still a very appropriate toy for the 80s. We did not need too many gimmicks - we had our imaginations. Cool review man!
So I saw this video was posted when I got up but completely forgot to watch it until now, and when I realized I had forgotten I got excited to watch it, good treat at the end of the day. So I think this is one of the best vehicles true to the movie, BUT with that being said it is one of the only neutral vehicles... so I dont think it was high on a lot of kids want lists. Everyone wanted an X-wing, landspeeder or falcon on the good guys side. On the bad guys you needed a tie fighter or vaders advanced, even a Slave I for Fett. But the cloud car was "eh". Im actually looking around my collection now and the only other "neutral" vehicle i see is the sandcrawler. Feel free to correct me if there are others im forgetting

I personnaly love the design of the Bespin cloud City Twin-Pod-Car Toy.
That's cool!

Excellent video!
The Cloud Car did require 2 pilots, you’re right. It gets points for that. Beautiful design. Looked identical. The orange bullet!
Thanks!

Epic!! Dagobah is another rad Playset. One of my favs!
It looks very good on display. Not the best vehicle to play with but you are right. It is a must in a Bespin display

The addiction to Kenner grows strong. I wish you hadn't opened it. Dang. Ha! At least shes mint!

Lots of fun toys to collect from the 70-80s. Star Wars is my only jam hence this channel.
Yeah both my hatches are broken, but good for display purposes, just got to get another pilot, and there dam guns and communacators!
Pesky hatches. Those commlinks fetch a pretty penny nowadays. Kenner plastic crack!
Hatches usually got removed and then stepped on/crushed
Yep. Tragedy.

You are not alone. I’ve heard many folks say similar things. The nostalgic element always wins in the end.
It's the Lamborghini of the Kenner line! No ,it is what it is...
Exactly! 👊🏻
Love the ship, I have one. Not a great deal more can be said...
Exactly. Like I said, it doesn't get much love.

I do read all the comments ;)

I cannot remember if it has the cardboard. I want to say that it did but I can't confirm off the top of my head. Sorry.

Imagination was everything back then! Thanks for watching, Bill ;)
I never understood these vehicles, I mean what are they the tandum bikes of SW? Totally illogical.
Not too functional really. Visually speaking, it's a cool looking toy but still not a lot to get excited about.
This was one of the worst Star Wars toys

I think you said it perfectly, buddy. Poor Cloud Car. LOL. Just not a fan favorite even though she did what she was supposed to do. Awww.
