Chase Elliott has had a forgettable 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. That's because it's been memorable for all the wrong reasons. A snowboarding accident that sidelined him for six races was just the beginning. NASCAR added to his misery, suspending him after he intentionally wrecked Denny Hamlin at the Coca-Cola 600.
Those combined absences have put him way behind in the points standings. For weeks, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and others believed the 2020 champ could get it on points. That mindset changed at New Hampshire with another lackluster performance. Now, the No. 9 team is in a must-win situation.
Recently on his podcast, Earnhardt talked about the upcoming playoff bubble battle and said it should be interesting to watch. And then Junior got brutally honest, suggesting if the 27-year-old driver doesn't make it, he'll not only be incredibly embarrassed, but he should expect big changes to his team in 2024.

Chase has not had the speed after his suspension. He got some top fives on strategy but the speed has not been there to compete for wins.
I have no proof if this, only a few comments from a couple people closer to the situation, but I’m curious if all is good with Chase and Larson. Like I said this is just an opinion. I hope it’s not that, they’ve got 4 really good drivers that should be stable for the next 15-20 years but we don’t see behind the curtain. This season hasn’t had any flow to it at all. Injury, then a suspension and before you know it, the pressure is on to try and make up ground. Suspension aside, I am fine with him getting back at Hamlin right then. Look at Kyle, Denny has taken Larson out 2 different races and both for wins. Kyle needs to put the 11 in the fence and end his day at least once.
I think he got jealous when Larson started winning and won a championship. He hasn’t drove the same since. He was #1 driver before Larson came and he can’t stand it.
Gary , i agree with you now especially watching the September Kansas cup race.. did you see their exchange coming out of the pits..? Brad Kesoloski made things real tight on pit road and Larson had no choice but to pinch his hotrod right between the three.. Chase got bumped and and immediately blamed Larson for the contact by moving left into Larson when the 2 were side by side…! Ever since the WATKINS GLEN incident where Larson went inside and got the lead on that crazy restart I’ve noticed something different with him and his racing attitude…! PS: Larson had the chance to get back at hamlin at least 2 TIME at Kansas but took the high road ( LANE LOL..) letting little Denny off the hook again ..! He must have decided to have a great finish is better than possibly wrecking both and ruin his season Championship Run..! New bumper sticker ( NEVER LET LITTLE DENNY TAKE YOUR INSIDE ). 😂😂😂😂😂
It’s so strange how some races the 9 & the 48 seems to not have the speed like the 5 & 24 have. Definitely been a struggle to find a groove and build momentum for the 9 and 48 after their injuries. Hope they can both snag a win and put all 4 in the playoffs.
I am huge Chase fan, but I had already called that he doesn't make it to the post season. I would love to be proven wrong, but I can't say I want to get my hopes up. I believe Allen and Chase are still a good pairing, but yeah... it will be curious what changes come to the 9 team.

If you unload at the track and the car is not fast that is NOT on the crew chief. Practice and race adjustments are on the crew chief and driver.
One thing I noticed is that when the 9 team shows up to the tracks, their setups on their cars are not good. They are behind from beginning and they spend all their time trying to make adjustments with the little practice time they have and have very poor qualifying so then when the races start they trying to use strategies to catch up and that’s barring that nothing goes wrong. That problem needs to be resolved if they plan on competing the rest of the season 🤔!!!!

Outside of a miracle he won't be competing for a championship this year with only one race remaining in the regular season.
Alan won't be Chase's crew chief forever, but when they do replace him I HOPE they pair Chase with someone who's young and hungry, someone who he can grow with.

Too bad he got suspended and wasn't around BEFORE Hendrick was CAUGHT cheating, would of had alot more points and maybe a win before they caught on.
If there had to be any changes to the number 9 team it would be some of his pit crew like the Jackman or a couple of the tire changers. Alan Gustafson is not the problem and plus if anything the problem has been Elliott himself because the injury. It’s just an off year I expect him to rebound in 2024.

Well I truly don't see him in the playoffs, but you have to understand that he has not been very good as well, sure a top 5 at Chicago, but would he actually would have that, if the big accident didn't happen late in the race, he benefit from a huge wreck 😊

I think it's time for a complete team shakeup. The team is stale, from the driver to the crew chief. Chase hasn't been the same since Larsen arrived on the scene.
He won 5 races last year and won the regular season championship after Larson busted everyone's ass in 2021
Not a big Elliott fan. He seems to drive without a lot of inspiration, especially since his snow mobil accident. When that happened, I was wondering what he was doing putting his ride at risk like that. Seems he has other things on his mind besides racing. Time for new talent!

Chase won the title with superior speed it had nothing to do with Alan . Alan sucks he was that way with all the other previous Hendrick drivers . That's why he only has one title .

I think chase and the whole team needs to all start working together. Winning a race is the TEAMS job. From the people the build the cars to Chase. I think chase has lost confidence in his driving and needs the entire team to help him get it back. I feel Chase can do anything he sets his mind too. You can do thus Chase. GOOD LUCK❤

@@AftertheCheckeredFlag no, I don't think he has any responsibility for when Chase loses his temper and hooks Hamlin into the wall causing a one-race suspension.....he does have a responsibility to bring cars to the track that have speed. that's what's missing......I love what Harvick has said...."you can't drive a slow car fast"

If Stellantis (who owns the Dodge ans RAM brands) would join NASCAR, I guarantee you that Chase Elliott would bring his entire #9 team to Evernham Motorsports, if Ray Evernham display interests in return to NASCAR. I would like to see Chase Elliott driving a Dodge in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series and a RAM in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. That would be interesting to see.

Chase has missed to many races to make the playoffs without a win...as my opinion chase has lost he's drive to win races....he's done...
While I do agree with everything you said you have to look back to 2015 when Kyle Busch missed more races then chase 11 races for Busch to 7-8 races for Elliott the only deference is my opinion is Kyle at the time drove for Toyota so NASCAR wanted their star driver in the playoff hunt not that Chase isn't NASCAR golden boy but you would think by now chase would be safe in the playoffs if NASCAR wanted him to and also on his injury I do believe that didn't happen as well it was a plan to get Josh Berry seat time in this car for 2024 with SHR when Kevin Harvick leaves this year and there is a video on RUclips that josh was talking with SHR about a seat before chase so call injury
