    Those trains are massive. The dumpers are also pretty impressive. As the train shunts through they pick up each car and tip it upside down to empyt the ore.

    You guys have some awesome trains in Australia! I an sitting near the southernmost Union Pacific line, in Arizona, which goes from California to Texas and possibly further. The trains are long a frequent. I grew up with trains in Dayton, Ohio, carrying mostly car parts or new cars, but also coal and plenty of it. Every hour I hear a train and they were fairly loud as they echoed in the great Miami River valley. Only downside with the pollution back then! cough cough. Smelled like sulfur and various chemicals.
    Out here in Arizona, in less populated area, is crystal clear skies.

      in pakistan they beat that record, in 2015 8 locomotives pulled 300, 000 tonnes of coal from Karachi to Islamaabad. This train is nothing lol

    Days of the CM40-8M it was 208 cars and then went up to 224 cars. The 112 rake usually formed the famous 3 rake consist of 336 cars. It was a mixture of CM40-8M, SD40 & AC6000CW which I believe are scrapped with only a couple remaining i.e. SD40 & CM40-8M. Today with the double track and the all mighty SD70ACe they run 264 cars a 2 rake consist with more than 40,000 tons total weight. That should be the limit for 4 x SD70ACes can handle. Its a mammoth task just to get all that tonnage going on flat terrain. Long live the huge iron ore trains in the Pilbara!!!!

    • @gm16v149
      @gm16v149 4 года назад +2

      The AC6000s were all scrapped a few years ago, now it’s just SD70ACe. The 3 rake x 6 locomotives were abandoned because they were too unwieldy, nowadays it’s 2 rakes x 4 locomotives.

    Back in early 1970's I lived in Port Hedland and saw the earlier, shorter versions of these trains. They used to be 3 engined and 155 wagons. This one has 4 or 6 engines (5 are operating as power cars - controlled by the drivers up the front).

      Not sure...but back in 1979 I worked for the company doing rail maintainance at Karratha. In my induction I was told I could never wear anything red to work....because if I was out on the line and a driver rounded a corner and saw red in the distance he would be force to throw the train into complete lockup. The friction during a full lockup stop would require 500 mtrs of track to need replacing. And back then train had 175 carriages... 250 on occasions out ot Tom Price.
