  • There is sometimes love and hate relationship going on with Monsteras. We love them for the lovely fenetrasted leaves especially the variegated ones yet when the leaves goes brown its can be disheartening.
Let's dive what we can with the brown leaves once it's occurred. Well we can just let it be and embrace the Browing. All leaves eventually goes yellow and then Brown when the leaf is dying. It may not look aesthetically pleasing seeing Browning on the leaves. Overall the Monstera is still a super stunning plant. The varigated part of this leaf is still beautiful even with the brown edges on the white part of the leaf . Just like humans, plants are not perfect. We have imperfections and so do they.
Chop off the whole leaf. This is find if it's just a few leaves we are pruning and we won't harm the plant. This Monstera has 6 leaves. The oldest leaf has gone yellow and will eventually turn brown and dry up and die. There will be no issue if this leaf is chopped off.
This Monstera has alot of leaves that the edges of the leaves have gone brown. If all the brown leaves are pruned off the plant there is a risk of the plant dying as the Monstera won't have many leaves left. In this case for every 1 leaf prune one brown leaf.
If you have time on your hands, just cut the brown parts off the leaf. Leave a small rim of brown on the leaf as this prevents the browning to spread. Sometimes if the Brown parts are cut to close to the health part of the leaf it cause the spread of Browning because the healthy section of the leaf is damaged. Leaving a small brown rim helps to minimise this risk. This hack is a great way to make the plant look more aesthetically pleasing. The green areas of the remaining leaf is still working to capture sunlight to produce energy for the plant.
What do you tend to do? I would love to read it in the comment section down below. I myself tend to cut off the whole leaf if the majority of it has gone brown. I'm too lazy or just don't the time to cut little bits of browning as it doesn't bother me. I still think my baby looks stunning with the browning.

Hi, i have a monstera who is over 40 years old, it has been in the same pot for over 20 years. It is leaning heavily to one side now and i need to try and prop it up, it already has a pole, but thats lop sided too. Should i re-pot it? The pot seems really small for it. If so what is the best way to do this? Also the leaves turn brown at the edges and some of the leaves have not even managed to unfurl. Help please!! Thank you 😊

      Hi Gillian,
Thanks for asking a question and sharing your Monstera issue. I would definitely think the monstera would need to be repotted if the soil is 20 years old, there wouldn't be any nutrients or much soil left and suspect the roots are circulating in the pot and completely root bound. I suggest you check the state of the roots. The edges are probably going brown as the plant is jot getting enough nutrients or water from being root bound.
This video link here will show how to repot and set up your monstera. ruclips.net/video/S6XGujX0oAc/видео.html Happy Monstera Gardening ❤️

Hi , For myself l usually propagate Monstera in water or Sphagnum Moss first for the roots to grow a decent size before moving to soil. The first step is to check the roots or stem has not rotten. Leaf could be going brown because the cutting is placing more energy into producing roots then maintaining the leaves. I would transfer to Sphagnum Moss for the plant to grow more roots before going back into soil. Thanks for watching and your question .Happy Monstera Gardening ❤️

My monstera also is all brown all over. I’m so worried that she won’t make it. I bought this cutting about a week ago.
