    thanks for doing this! I swear the algorithm hates you or something because I think this channel should be huge. Always appreciate your content. I still don't use any pedals, but I've been getting curious about compressors.

      Thanks Steve, really appreciate the support! I'll just keep trying to put out interesting, quiality content and leave the gimmicks up to the other bass channels ;)

    Bit more info: MXR also has a step-up voltage converter. Although mxr marketed it as "tuned better for bass response" the same pedal was released as "studio compressor" wih zero changes (so much for integrity).
    MXR is based off the 1176 which has terribly short attack (what you probably felt as strugle) that is in microseconds and does not go over milisecond (where most other comps do, and Cali has this, erm, improved).
    PS: it is more of a limiting amplifier than a compressor

      Tomislav Simić wow thanks for the info, explains a lot about why I felt the way I did with the Mxr!

    Thanks for your comments! They’re really useful as it’s not always easy to hear the subtle differences between the pedals on RUclips, even through good headphones.
    About the EBS: I heard it was a bit noisier than higher end pedals. Can you or anyone confirm?

    • @Basslessonsmelbourne
      @Basslessonsmelbourne  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Joe glad you found the video useful! I've tried all 3 versions of the EBS multicomp and the only one I found noisey was the very first edition, it's not true bypass either. The black label and studio edition are both very useable.

    excellent and honest review, I especially resonate w your statement on the EBS about compressors and they should add to your live sound, not take anything away. For instance I own the Boss bass limiter 2 which I prefer over my mxr compressor. Adds to my tone, you can add girth and sheen, easy to use where I feel the mxr would be better for the studio. Using my Billy Sheehan Ebs pedal just for clean boost and compression for now which is doing just fine.

    just an fyi…check out the Maxon CP-9 Pro Plus compressor/Limiter pedal,it’s basically a DBX 160 in a pedal (,it’s a little noisy at high outputs),as most are,but it’s such a great pedal $269.00 U.S….

    Compressore using the tube to work out the compression amount is already a power hog. Bringig the voltage down to 9V would raise the current required. Which would, most probably, prevent you from running it off your pedalboard daisy chain.

    How is the Noise-floor on the EBS Unit? I am leaning-that way in my search for a Bass compressor. I also like the Becos Mini & The Diamond Bass Compressor with passive-pickups. Great information presented here. oNe LovE from NYC

      @@michael_caz_nyc The EBS is certainly fat and doesn't get too noise unless you are cranking the controls pretty far. Thanks!

    Sadly, there are no affordable bass compressor pedals that are any good. I've tried them all and they all suck. You get what you pay for in this specific area.

    • @Basslessonsmelbourne
      @Basslessonsmelbourne  4 года назад

      I guess it depends on what you would class as affordable. I definitely think the EBS does a good job as does the TC Spectracomp and these pedals are arguably very affordable.
