- As the Townmate settles in to the garage, we begin the teardown to see what we've actually ended up with. Until know we don't even know what engine we've got! But, in this video we find out that, and a few other things too.

Another Greek guy here. I used to have a T50 back in 2000 when I was in the university. I changed the motor to 79cm3, the carburator and the exhaust. It was awsome. And as people said here this was a very popular motorbike in Greece in the 80s and early 90s.
το έκανες 47 χιλιοστά χωρίς να ανοίξεις μοτέρ; γίνεται;
This is the motorcycle i started 22 years a go. Has it's bad sides but it's unbelievably reliable. I do miss it sometimes. Had modified mine to 90cc and it could carry at top speed (80km/h) with two people up hill :D
Sounds like fun! Hope this one is as reliable 😀
@@MechitBetter These things are all we had as youngsters, i went to places i never thought a motorcycle would go and now i am afraid to go even with an off road motorcycle. They are extremely reliable. The suspension is terrible in the front however and the brakes a bit bad but if you get used to it you can do anything.
Congratulations guys the only restoration video for town mate...
I have one me too and I want to fix it from the start
Thanks! More to come soon. Really looking forward getting it ready for adventure 👍
I have a Greek t50 to 😂😂 and I will try to restore it in the following weeks
Very nice bike , it’s moped not scout . Lovely videos keep going!! There are many of t50 in Greece, a guy was running it out of oil for a year and it’s ok it runs very well without problems! We call this bike death because it’s very strong . You’ve got the 80cc version which is much better than 50cc for acceleration
Thanks! I hope my engine is as reliable as the ones you mention. There was no oil in the bike when I got it, but hopefully there was some when it was last used. I’m really glad to have the 80cc version 😁
How do you know which version it is? Mine looks the same as this but on the papers it says t50 for license etc but its modified to 100cc
The standard engine will have the capacity cast in to the side of the engine/head. If it’s a modified engine it could still be written on the head, but possibly not. Depends how it’s been modified.
its an underbone
Loving your videos guys, really inspiring! Keep it up!
Cheers so much Duncan. We’ll do our best. Hope the inspiration is taking you somewhere interesting!
Mech it Better yeah, mostly sketchy looking bikes on eBay much to my partners dismay! Have an urge to tinker!
Oh man... we’re no relationship experts so don’t let us get you in trouble! My advice? Buy a sketchy old bike, or two... hide it/them somewhere, and tinker while you’re supposedly out doing something important 👍👍 just be careful though cos sketchy old bikes have a habit of breeding. Before you know it you’ve got a garage full. Still... you only live once. Follow your joy 🙂 Thanks so much for ‘buying us a brew’. You’re an absolute legend and a gentleman sir!
No worries, if ever two blokes deserved a cuppa it you guys, that townmate is mint, I can’t wait to see the progress, I’ve got an address 110 too, so much fun, but I feel like a project, just moving house at the moment, But the new house has lots of tinkering space! Just have to hide em like you say 🤞
Well it’s really appreciated. The ‘Buy us a Brew’ thing is new and it feels a bit like e-begging asking for support to do something we love anyway, but we really hope to grow the channel and dream up more interesting projects and restorations to share with everyone, and hopefully meet with people too. If you ever need a hand finding sketchy junk on eBay, we’re ninja level and happy to help 👍
I just bagged a t80 for £190 I cannot wait until I put it on the road.
Nice video bike doesn’t look too bad hopefully it won’t be to much of a challenge 👍
Thanks 😀 Hopefully just the right amount of challenge to be entertaining and learn something 👍
This is the best bike on Greece 70% have townmate
Awesome. I’d love to see that! 👍👍
Hi, loving the Video, did you replace the Carburator round rubber ring piece or fit without, tnx J
I am from Sri Lanka. Using a town mate. Now I don't get the spark on the ignition coil. Can you rectify please.
Where did you get that workshop manual at 13:51? I seriously need a copy of it in images or PDF format

Happy days 😁👍
@@MechitBetter My T80 is JDM and this service manual is for the european market, but i believe everything is exactly the same on both bikes. Again thanks. Greetings from Greece

She was indeed a tad dry
I have yamaha townmate, it has deffect. Its problem is there are about ten balls within the engine I thought its a clutch mechanism or something else. Please is any body know what am I talking about?
This bike is using shaft propellor instead of chain......
If you have loose balls within the engine, I think perhaps some of the bearings have collapsed. It’s impossible to be accurate without seeing the engine myself, but it sounds like it will need to be dismantled for investigation.
the main difference 50 cc 3speed 80cc 4speed not very quick for an 80 had 2 from new 83 85 respective 😀👍
