  • For every world-famous destination in Venice, we think there's another less-known place that's just as great. This video covers important details for visiting the Bell Tower (Campanile) at Piazza San Marco as well as the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Some could argue that the views at the top of the bell tower on San Giorgio are better than the views from San Marco. But, you might want to include both in your Venice travel plans.
Beware: the bells in the San Giorgio bell tower do ring every half hour, even when visitors are at the top of the tower. It is very loud and can be surprising.
Details on getting to San Giorgio from San Marco using the Vaporetto (Water Bus).
Depart from the San Zaccaria station near Piazza San Marco. The San Zaccaria Station has multiple separate platforms. Find platform B. Vaporetto Route 2 departs from platform B every 13 minutes. Vaporetto routes go in two directions. Make sure you look at the route and take the Vaporetto heading to San Giorgio. San Giorgio is the first stop after departing San Zaccaria. Travel time on the Vaporetto is about 3 minutes.
Watch our video on using the Vaporetto ( • Venice Public Transpor... ) for much more information about buying tickets and planning your routes.

Thank you so much. In Sept. I'll be in Venice and wanted to see a glass exhibit at the Glass Rooms on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. This is the only video I've been able to find that ever mentions San Giorgio and now I know exactly how to get there. I wish you gave information for other Italian cities because you do so with great detail, needed for the older traveler. 🤩

I must admit I am a bit nervous, but I will be there early in October 2023. So much to see, so much to eat.....this will be fun! I do appreciate your videos, as you break down information into bite-size pieces. Thank you for all the valuable information.

Your channel is so informative and takes the apprehension of visiting the city. Thank you so much. Can you do a video on what to do in 2 days? I am going to Venice in October and I want to plan ahead to maximize my trip

Hi, thank you for your comment! We're not currently planning a video on what to do in 2 days, however we recommend you check out: San Giorgio; the Jewish ghetto; the rooftop terrace at Fondaco dei Tedeschi; the Acqua Alta bookshop; in addition to the typical sightseeing spots. We'd recommend having a plan B if you want to visit the islands (Murano, Burano), in case the lines at the vaporetto are too long. There's so much you can see just by walking around!

Can you tell a little bit how to get to San Marco from Vennice airport by boat ? What boat I should get on and what ticket machine I should pick my ticket from ? Also how to get to Burano, Murano from San Marco? What are the name of the water boat ride that I should buy ticket from to get to all these places? I heard there is one boat you can not bring carryon suitcase ?

Hi there, check out the "arriving in Venice" and "public transportation" videos on our channel, as well as the shorts on how to get to Venice from the airport. You should find all the answers you're looking for! The Alilaguna water boat service from the airport allows carry-on luggage on board; the regular water buses in town generally allow them, but depending on how crowded the boat is, you might be asked to wait for the next one of you're carrying luggage.
