@@RoysGarage808 aloha my friend, it finally died a week ago and I had to order one and used your video. Rockauto had it for a pretty good price, thank you very much for making this you saved me quite a bit of time
@@RoysGarage808 Hello Roy. I also have a 2003 Highlander and I'm also having similar problems with my alternator. How much mileage can I get out of a Denso alternator if I buy one? Are they for sale on Amazon or eBay?
@@thebeatnumber I’m not sure on an estimate mileage you can get out of Denso alternators BUT Toyota uses Denso for their cars. So getting a Denso is basically the same as getting an original part from the dealership! Sometimes I’ve been able to find them on Amazon but not always, I usually work with my local parts store. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@RoysGarage808 Thanks for the feedback! I also have a 2003 Toyota Highlander and its looking like I will need to change its alternator. Your video has been very helpful for me. Thanks a million!
About how long does this job take? It seems incredibly simple and I need to do this myself as my battery light has been coming on with a new battery in.
Took me about 8 hours, because my idler adjuster bolt was seized. I tried everything to loosen it, before I just cut and replaced it. If that bolt isn’t giving you a fit, maybe 2 hours max.
Great question, if you disconnect the battery then you’ll lose the memory on your ECU which could lead to problems. I’ve had customers unknowingly replace their own batteries and ended up with radio problems or other ECU issues and they needed to go to the dealership to get a specific code to fix it. I hope that answers your question, thanks for watching!
I just wanted to add because that bottom one sucks but if you pull the alternator up as far as it goes and titan the pivot as to hold it up take the belt off it too You can actually see the bottom one s little better I was at it 2 hours one I did that took like half hour.. oh yeah obviously loosen the pivot to get the belt on the and start tension
Should've elaborated about the bottom bolt having too go through the tensioner as you didn't. You skipped that part. Also u should disconnect the battery either way
Same configuration as my 2006 Highlander. Great detail, well explained and executed. Subscribed.
Thanks for watching!
@@RoysGarage808why nobody show how to change the pigtale of the cables of the alternator, how the colors line up ?
Smart man, always use Denso. I just bought one of these highlanders and I'm probably gonna put a new denso on it soon.
Thanks for watching 🤙

Awesomeness
Why not just disconnect the negative off the battery 1st?

Bad idea not disconnecting battery imho. I disconnect your 04 all the time no issues.
