I think we forget how cold and wet the open cockpit aircraft of the Great War must have been for the crews. Another great video. Thank you.

Yes indeed, Andy, let along the problems associated with total loss, castor oil-filled, engines!

Thank you very much indeed, Mike. She showed us all up, didn’t she?!

I suspect they were called "fug boots" because they were seriously "fugly" boots!

Interesting. Until I saw 'aviation' in the description, I was thinking 'Murmansk Intervention 1919'. Not too far off, though. 😁
    About the boots...
Ok, this presumes that my American ear heard your accent right. Apologies if I missed it. I thought I heard 'funk boots'. My best guess [and that's what it is, a guess] references 'funk holes' in trenches. The boots closely resemble rubber wading boots that show up in some trench photos. Because of that similarity in appearance, I wonder if the waders [and your flight boots here] were not nicknamed 'funk boots'.

No, they were definitely fug boots 👍🏻

@@GreatWarHuts I hesitate to even guess what 'fug' means in 1916... I **can** say that it's not very complimentary in the US today tho... 🤣 [it means 'eff'ing ugly']
