This is a prime example of what the NHL gets right compared to the NFL when it comes to refereeing and reviewable plays. Missed call controversies are so much fewer and far between for a league that plays 5x more games than the nfl. A simple call-in from Toronto avoided fan outrage, even Rangers fans agree.

I have, I played AND Refereed through college. The NHL refs are THE WORST. They took the Cup OUT of Nashville... disallowed how many goals from Nashville and Pittsburg gets the free ride. They got back to Nashville without their favorite refs and Nashville beat the CRAP out of Pittsburg. That was stealing plane and simple.

As a former ref i can say he threw the stick. Also i think they were caught off guard as that dont happen very often. So just seeing it once from different angles i can see why they made that first call. In the end it was the right call. That is what counts. I never seen a goalie throw a stick in a shoot out in my 25 years. I seen them through sticks just not in that situation.
