So glad you got to Joni, one the great geniuses of our time. She refused to compromise throughout her career, she explored jazz influences collaborating with some of the greatest players. The album BLUE which came out after this concert was the one that made the world listen. It was the most direct, emotionally raw songwriting to date and it changed the rules, and forced the industry to take female songwriters seriously.
My all-time favorite singer-songwriter! Even after all of these decades. No one is as original or creative as Joni Mitchell. Her voice pierces the soul.
I'm so glad you reacted to Joni. I didn't realize that I haven't been seeing you around lately and you popped up on my feed with this. Now you know Kate AND Joni! Two of the best singer- songwriters ever. Joni is the Sun and Kate is the Moon! Please, next try: All I Want from her album Blue. It's a joyous expression of love.
Thanx for this lovely reaction! This was the first Joni song I ever heard, upon its release in 1970... She followed up with her greatest lp, Blue, while the Hejira lp, released about 6 yrs later, and infused with cutting edge jazz stylings, is my personal fav. In sum, Joni is THE greatest singer/songwriter/musician of the past 60 yrs (too bad Robert Zimmerman!), in multiple genres ranging from folk and pop to world and jazz... And her music became the soundtrack of so many of our lives!
I don't know what microphone she was using but the sound quality is probably great because of all the old-school engineering equipment they used back in the day. I played guitar in a church band years ago and one day our church got a donation of an old Carvin, powered, tube, mixing console (probably made in the 70's). When we plugged into it and we heard how warm, rich, soft, and pleasing it made everything sound, we immediately understood that something had gotten lost when the world moved on to the new solid state digital technology.
Did you pay attention to the lyrics?...." I dreamed I saw the bombers riding shotguns in the sky and they were turning into butterflies upon our nation". Ain't that something?
JUMP IN! GET IN! If you spend the next decade trying to catch up with Joni Mitchell......you will have spent a lovely ten years. GET IN!

Yeah the image that created at the time, and still creates today, is next level.
