    great video i inherited a 1990 w124 that sat for 4 years and the previous owner replaced the blower motor. but sitting for 4 years there were squirrels and mice all over inside and it the vents making nests in ironically the squirrel cage.. so i pulled the "new" motor and put a working motor back in. which was the old one and now i know why it was replaced to begin with. i too may see if it can breathe under water. you have earned my thumbs up and sub.

    Hello MM; Will email you about the pods tomorrow.
    Today I was just at what this video shows and got rained off.
    So thanks for the video, tomorrow is going to be easier after seeing this.
    I want to get the whole black plastic airflow box (german translation) out of the car and removing the blower motor seemed like a good step.
    If my lower wiper motor rubber is ok I'll post that too by the way. And the wee screws if there are any on my yoke.
    PS Rain is small drops of wet that fall from the sky

    Greetings, on my 300e-24 there was the same problem with the whistling motor of the stove. I just took it off and lubricated the bushing with engine oil and it stopped whistling! The bushing of the motor is made of brass and it is porous, the whistle from the fact that the lubricant ends. The mileage at the time of lubrication was 137t.km.

    For the next viewer, while everything is opened up, would someone please measure, and post, the max current draw? connected directly to battery, i.e. max speed.
    Next: the "electronic speed control" (under the blower motor 🤬 ) failed... most likely due to dried out heat sink paste... causing poor transistor cooling to the "igel" heat sink... then failure... of course at the beginning of freezing temperatures season. Why M-B decided to bury this transistor under the blower... vs. in the top pf the blower housing... (but I ain't no genius en-ge- neer)

    Awesome video as always. So I just had the blower replaced by a shop and AC recharged. It blows cold but I remember it used to blow colder. I suspect my recirculation button isn't working so I watched this video to see where the fresh air opening is to seal it off with tape, is it visible in the video? If possible, can you point me to it? Thank you!

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  Год назад +1

      the usual issue with the recirc flap isnt the flap but the vacuum pods that move it. They puncture and no longer hold vacuum. Normally open is the resting state without vacuum. This is a dash out job to fix and depending on what version you have, the pods are no longer available anyway. They can be rebuilt though very fiddly.

    • @shaazy
      @shaazy Год назад

      @@MMWA-DAVE oh yes it's quite a pig of a job to repair those pods. So I wanted to tape up any fresh air openings manually till I work up the courage to fix them. However, I just went under the blower to try and manually close the fresh air opening. I saw the flap and it's resting in a closed position, same as i see in this video. Is this the fresh air ON position or OFF? Strange that I'm getting fresh air with the flap like that.

    LOL....... Sooooo another good reason to replace a worn fan motor is the extra current it draws as it ages that can kill electronic modules in the HVAC system.

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  3 года назад +1

      yeah, this version is just a old fashioned 4 way switch with a coil resistor block. They do end up melting the fuse box though, particularly with the cost reduced later version fuse box, which ends up doing this anyway if used on high often.

    The blower in my W124 does nothing. Of course it would fail in Winter. The question, which one is the part responsible. If it were the resistor, I have been told, then the blower should still work on maximum setting. Is that your understanding also? Actually there are two resistors, one is that little cube on top of the cavity that houses the instrument cluster on the other side. A drag to get at, and mechanic told me that he has never so far seen one of those failing. The other one is that big cast aluminium "thing" that sits in the aircon box...

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  11 дней назад +1

      @@johnmichaelvoss6194 i have never seen the fan resistor fail - it is extremely robust in its construction. And yes top fan speed just bypasses the resistor anyway. Have you checked for 12V at the fan motor connectors with the fan on? Chances are its the fuse or the fuse box has melted due to excessive current draw from the fan motor. There was an official upgraded external fuse for this issue on cars with the weak fuse box design that melts.

    • @johnmichaelvoss6194
      @johnmichaelvoss6194 11 дней назад

      @MMWA-DAVE Thanks. The fuses in the fuse box are all Ok. You don't mean that little sand coloured element next to the motor...? The car is 40 years old, will they give me that factory upgrade if we missed it ...? 😜
