    The excavator got a little TLC. Nice work with skill holding that spray bottle. Noticed a squirrel ran and hid from the man holding the spray can. Wise move. Nice work of art equal to many boxcars and works of art in well travelled places. The excavator looks much younger and was quite entertaining as the years dropped off. Thanks and great video.

    SANDY... I'm proud of you, buddy. Too many people in this world would say... "It's old. When it quits running I'll drop it in the ravine and that'll be the end of it." You are so much like me, it scares me. People walk out in my shop and gasp. "I've never seen such an old metal lathe. Does it still run?" Well, the fact is, it was given to me because it DIDN'T run any more. Brought it home, took it apart, rebuilt it, and now... 25 years since I got it, it still turns metal as good as a new one. I told you about rebuilding the motor on my table saw. Could have bought a new motor for $xxx.xx. Instead, I took it apart, found the old bushing that was worn beyond tolerance, got some bronze bushing material and after a few hours of machining (that I enjoyed doing), the motor works like new - actually better than new.
    Don't paint the blade or bucket, it'll wear the paint off the first time you use it. Finally, your efforts say one more thing... you take care of your equipment. If we were neighbors, you can be assured that you could borrow anything of mine. WHY? Because I know you would take care of it, and return it when finished with it in the same condition you received it.
    Only comment, I used to use Rustoleum primer and paint on race car frames when I restored them. I'd sandblast them to bare metal so I could inspect all the welds, then primer and paint. I've not seen the brand of paint you used - maybe its a Canadian brand not sold in the US, but I'm sure it's good. Take care, and we'll see you on the next one...............

    • @sawingwithsandy
      @sawingwithsandy  Год назад

      I appreciate the words Carl! I sure do like the old iron. Except when it's sitting out in the back 40 rusting away haha. I do take extra good care of other people's stuff. My stuff I get carried away some times but not others. The Tremclad is a Canadian brand if I"m not mistaken. They do have Rustoleum here if I"m not mistaken but I think the brand they sell in the stores is Tremclad made by Rustoleum. Have a great rest of your week Carl!

    Yeah I would have gotten too elaborate either. I would have pressure washed it first and instead of rattle cans I would have gone to Princess Auto and bought a cheap spray gun. Then used canned paint and a thinner. It would have been cheaper but a sprayer is easier to use than a spray bomb. Looks 100% better anyway Sandy. Kind of a Terex theme.

    • @MadHatter764

    Dood, a cheap HVLP sprayer can deliver a better paint job than the best rattle can, and at a much cheaper cost. I even stopped using my old cup gun once I bought an HVLP gun because it's better. For all of my outdoor stuff I use Rustoleum paint because I don't want to have to paint it again in a couple of years.

    Not sure I'd bother with painting either the bucket or the front of the blade - seem like places where the paint would be worn off the first time they're used much.
    When it comes to things that run through the dirt or otherwise have soil moving across the surface I just leave bare metal once the factory paint has been worn off --- unless it's not going to be used for quite a while (i.e. years).
    As fast as the clay/loam I have in my area will abrade away surface finishes (and rust) it seems using the equipment is an easier rust removal/preventative measure than adding a surface coating. For example, the single-bottom moldboard plow I use for my garden gets a near mirror-like polish by the time I'm done with it in the garden (usually pretty shiny after the first 100ft pass actually).
