I rented one of these for a day when I was on vacation last fall. I'm 6' tall 275Lbs and I had a ball. Didn't think it would hall me around all day but I put over 20 miles on it and in never skipped a beat. I'm on the waiting list for the Grizzly model.
Last week I got X-52 in red color. Love my e-bike, it is very fast and has great range. I love you cover electrified bikes too. I will definitely advise this e-bike to any one.
They've upgraded the battery to 20Ah, upgraded headlight with daytime running lights, they also changed the steam plus added turning signals to the break light. They also make a step thru model now for the same price.
I have a Trek Domane E bike that I bought because I was to slow to keep up with my son on our Sunday 35 milers. I have over 3,000 miles on it in just over a year & it has been one of the best recreational purchases I’ve made as I get older.
You nailed the eeb pros/cons. It’s kinda the ideal scooter for the 21st century. My wife commutes to work on her class 1 occasionally (50 mile round trip), and I use it around town to run errands. Being 54, and an avid mountain biker, I know I’ll one day be adding a Class 1 (pedal assist only) mountain bike to my herd, but the laws regarding riding on mountain bike trails are woefully stuck in the 20th century (can’t ride em on most mountain bike trails on state/federal land). We’re certainly at the beginning of a sea-change….. great review as usual!

I own exactly same e-bike and love it. Previously I owned a Super73 which created endless issues ended up selling that one and I bought X-52. I hope you will review Grizzly too
With the way gas prices are going it makes perfect sense to ride around on something like this, at least when it is appropriate. Small commutes and running errands or just for fun it beats $5 dollars a gallon.
Very thorough and honest review. you hit the nail on the head with every point. There are some shortcomings but the price and reasons behind them are entirely justified. It's a great mix between bike and motorcycle that lends itself to lots of versatility and fun. The savings on registration and insurance are huge.
Nice evaluation and great review. I'm impressed with the size and profile of the tires and wheels. That would give me some confidence in negotiating city streets, pot holes, drain grating and gutters. I can see that the shape of the seat coupled with the stiff rear suspension could be very uncomfortable.
I have this and love it. I did change the handle bar (i installed a handlebar from super73) and replaced the 1000lb spring rate shock for a 450 one. Bike is solid. If you are 5”9 or below, pedaling is not uncomfortable 🙂

I'm solving the rear shock problem with a lighter spring. I believe the stock spring is a 1000 lbs tension rate. That's a lot for the average rider (except maybe with a passenger). Amazon sells a variety of springs that are compatible with the X-bike. I'm replacing the stock spring with a 650 lbs spring (my weight + 450 lbs). I got this idea from Rusty Roads RUclips channel. And thank you for the great bike review!
There are 100’s of the double tube smaller wheel type used by the school kids here in N San Diego County. They look like mini biker gangs when school lets out and they head home using the bike lanes for highway access. Looks really cool & gets their parents out of having to pick up/drop off as there is no school bus service.
@@deehines5750 have x class for 14 months all is well not even a flat I will try keeping it under 20 and see how it does but I'm getting 38 mph on the flat and I don't mind charging it

I am intrigued by this type of transportation after your review. I don't see one in my future, though for two reasons. One, I live in a rural area. The roads in and out are 55+ mph and nothing remotely like shoulders much less bike lanes. The real deal breaker on this particular bike, though is my limb length. I have 36" inseam and sleeves. I did not see any way to adjust the ergos beyond handlebar angle. Thank you for the review and thanks to Ariel for submitting a bike for it.

Good report Ian. This would be the only electric bike I would buy for many of the reasons you have outlined here. One certainty but is that while you don't have to register them or have a license etc, it is only a matter of time before that will all change following the inevitability of the many people who will injure and kill people because of their negligence. The authorities will take that opportunity to force people to pay up for using these vehicles. Enjoy them while you can.
Nice review! I got a Segway Ninebot Max scooter 3 months ago even tho I own three street bikes including a honda grom and 3 cars lol. Its my daily driver to work unless the weathers bad. I got more people asking about my scooter then my motorcycles. A guy offered me $200 more then I paid for it just this week!
The rear shock has been stiff since day 1. I bought the 48V version late 2020 and have over 4000 miles on it. Love it, but just ordered a 350 lb spring rear shock yesterday. The original spring is 1000 lbs, which is probably good for 2 riders.

The weight is subjective, 76 lbs is alot for a bike, for a moped or anything else that could go that speed unless we are talking scooters that you stand on we are very light in weight. The range may be a problem to some though since they are used to riding for over 100 easily. Although you will need to be an endurance rider to ride 40 miles on a bike. Creature comforts are also subjective since i had a shank as a seat. I'll be fine. Some folks need a cloud as a seat. Conclusion, i believe the ebikes that are 1000w and above are somewhere in the middle of mopeds and bikes.
If you would recommend one of these over a scooter, will the Ariel Rider complete a distance ride like the scooter cannonball? How many batteries would it take to do 350 miles?
Unfortunately it looks like a parts bin special from the 70’s but I see the point of it for urban use. Why don’t they make use of all that frame space and make the battery larger. You could easily have double the power and still have a bargain. My Bafang kitted Trek is 10 kg lighter and similar power.
Batteries are heavy and expensive; electric mopeds are already very pricy. Lithium is depleting and the prices are steadily rising, + weight plays a huge factor in performance. (Why hybrid electric gas bikes aren’t very common).
I was sold when you said you are comfortable towing your Daughter behind while she enjoys the ride. 2 years old. No way to work that out on an Africa Twin haha...
I am considering buying the X Class 52V but I am worried if the range and performance going to be adequate to deal with San Francisco Hills? What range can I expect at 20 - 28 MPH without pedalling? Any advice would be much appreciated 😊

I’m starting to think more about something like this to add to my garage that is currently packed with motorcycles. I live next to a lake and woods so the trails would be so much fun. I am worried about the rear shock and how it is mounted in the middle of the top tube. It looks like it will constantly bend that tube until something cracks. Interesting how this is similar to the front shocks in the Ariel Atom car! I wonder if you’ve seen any problems after these few months of off road riding.
At 9:36, gotta love the narcissism of some RUclips reviewers and their assumption that everyone should/will use these e-bikes the way they do. I am getting this e-bike and I will be pedaling a lot, just like many others do. A) Not everyone is your height, so not everyone is going to have the same uncomfortable pedaling position you do and B) even if it’s not the ideal pedaling position, pedaling an e-bike is super easy, barely an inconvenience. You can’t treat it like pedaling a regular bike. You then go on to list factors that influence range per charge and conveniently omit the number one factor: pedaling! There is no way on earth you would ever get near the 70 mile range claimed by the brochure without pedaling. There is nothing wrong if people choose to just use the throttle, I am just fascinated at how many reviewers (not all of them) choose to dismiss all the e-bike buyers who plan to pedal. Just like people buy regular bikes for many diverse reasons, the same applies to e-bikes.

I have appreciated your reviews in the past simply because you said: "This is an honest review - and I have bought this product with my own money". When you start talking positive about stuff that is sent to you for free, I'm not so interested anymore...
I understand. I rarely do these types of videos. I did state that fact up front so if people don't want to watch, they don't have to. However, I have ridden many ebikes and I did think this one was pretty nice, and I am using it to commute around town, it is something valuable added to my lifestyle. People should research and form their own opinions.

In Texas you can ride a scooter under 50cc with a learner's permit, although you do still need to license and insurance For me it would be a hard choice between something like this and a 50cc Zummer for about $2,500 Yes this can go places The Zuma can't, but the Zuma has a locking under seat storage and you can simply stop at a gas station if you need to fuel up On the other hand if longer trips aren't on the menu, this can be taken inside at night
I'm in Texas also...I bought an E-bike purely because of the exercise and it gets me outside. As an older person, and out of shape, I found a regular bicycle impractical. The e-bike at least allows me some kind of a work-out. That Ariel he has is just too fast for a bicycle, at least in my opinion. Mine will go 28mph downhill and around 20 on a flat stretch and that is fast enough for me. Not to mention it was under a grand to buy with no shipping charges. (Lectric is the brand)
@@_rumple_5199 I actually considered one of those for that very purpose myself I had the idea of getting a bicycle to get back and forth to work because that way I don't have to worry about a car or motorcycle breaking down Only thing is my job is about 20 mi away from my house, and I don't think starting off with a 20 mile ride after not being on a bicycle for years would be a great idea 😂

The variety of e-bikes now available is tremendous, although I am not entirely comfortable with the idea that most of the manufacturing value is in the batteries and motors, which are 90% Chinese in origin. They are definitely the future though. Given the weight limit, to use the two seater version I am going to need a really skinny girlfriend! 😂
Just so everyone is clear, the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service regulations categorize eMTBs as a “motorized” use. Therefore, eMTBs are only permitted where motorized vehicles are allowed. There’s class 1, class 2, and class 3 eBikes. Only class 1 bikes are typically allowed on mountain bike trails. This looks like a class 3.
I do believe there is a way to unlock more power or speed with a code. Gain an extra 5mph or so. Ah, you mention that later👍.. You may get a rack and little bag to vary an extra battery. That works for extending off road trips. 🤔
These companies ship the bikes at a reduced speed that can be up-rated via their menu's. it's common practice and allows them to circumvent US restrictions on what is allowed or not allowed on our streets/pavements and whether you need a license/insurance etc. As far as I remember, you cannot exceed around 20mph on the street on an e-bike(I could be wrong) and the setting(class) it ships with reflects that. Almost the first thing though, that everyone does, is go into the menu and change the speed settings.
@@_rumple_5199 Depends on the state. The 20 mph limit is just for class 2 ebikes. Class 3 lets you go 28mph. The 1000w motor on this though instantly makes it illegal as an ebike. Can't have over 750 w continuous.
I am not sure why these have bicycle peddles and derailleur. If you hade a final drive and foot pegs then it couldn’t be classified as a bicycle is that it? I mean I get it for the bicycles that are electric, but this particular style and the super76 are different.
My problem with most ebikes is that you only have a choice between CCP junk or boutique stuff that is drastically overpriced. I could not find any info on their site that mentions where the bikes are made. That is usually indicative of them being made in china. Moreover, all these companies lie when it comes to range and speed. It is so common that people don't even think about it anymore. The major makers need to get into ebikes and emotorcycles. I'm not paying $2500 for this when I can get a small used motorcycle. Edit: I contacted Ariel. After trying to deflect my very direct question about where the bikes are made by saying "Our parts are sourced globally, as we’re using reputable manufacturers for parts that are coming from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, etc." they finally stated *"They are assembled in China."*
In my country in Europe everything is going to be regulated, no matter how well people behave. There was a time when more freedom could be enjoyed, now have to be lucky to be able to ride a bicycle in nature because a whole lot of places are forbidden even for bicycles, not to mention motorcycles.
These electric mopeds will be the future of transportation when we hit peak oil. Hopefully in a couple of years the energy density will improve to the point of 2KWh with the same weight of this one (1 KWh) and charging speed will increace to get 100 mile range at 25+ mph. 1000% !! So there are at least 10 of you?
Hub motors, chains, tires and tubes have a very short lifespan on Ebikes compared to a gas scooter or car. Costs to run Ebikes as daily commuters are much higher than people realize.
Very odd that there’s no seat height adjustment. It’s obviously not made for efficient pedaling, and yet you get a mess of gears to choose from. You’d think they should have made it a single-speed, geared for starting off, and for limping the bike home if you run out of juice 🧃.
There is a ton of height adjustment on Lectric bikes compared to Ariel. They have regular seats and you can adjust for small riders to people well over 6 feet tall. As for the gearing, other than the first few rides, I ignored it. I start off with the electric motor to get me going, then peddle on the top gear when I get up to speed. Lectric bikes and perhaps other manufacturers have a walk mode, just in case you run out of juice, it will keep at a constant low speed so you can walk it home. Personally, I have never used it; you can tell when you are getting low on juice.
Hmmm, electric 'bikes'. Thanks for the review but I will not go willingly down that route. Every 3 weeks I ride a round trip of 1050 miles on my motorcycle; not something that an e-bike will accomplish any time soon.

Yup, the only thing I don't like is that they no longer use metal gears. They now use the same nylon gears everyone else does.

How did your spring work? I got the 350lbs spring and it was about right for my weight (160lbs).

I have the blue x52 I love it for camping the range is around 26 miles throttle only 40 miles is a stretch even pedaling
40 miles was rated for going under 20mph.

Just got my Ariel Rider Kepler EBike. This thing is really fun.. 😂 I'm testing its limits and got to 34 mph on flat surface on GPS . very cool

Been riding an ebike to work for a few years and at work use a Kyburz EDV.

There is nothing wrong if people choose to just use the throttle, I am just fascinated at how many reviewers (not all of them) choose to dismiss all the e-bike buyers who plan to pedal. Just like people buy regular bikes for many diverse reasons, the same applies to e-bikes.
I'm a subscriber and I have seen many of your videos. I have appreciated your reviews in the past simply because you said: "This is an honest review - and I have bought this product with my own money". When you start talking positive about stuff that is sent to you for free, I'm not so interested anymore...
I understand. I rarely do these types of videos. I did state that fact up front so if people don't want to watch, they don't have to. However, I have ridden many ebikes and I did think this one was pretty nice, and I am using it to commute around town, it is something valuable added to my lifestyle. People should research and form their own opinions.

In Texas you can ride a scooter under 50cc with a learner's permit, although you do still need to license and insurance
For me it would be a hard choice between something like this and a 50cc Zummer for about $2,500
Yes this can go places The Zuma can't, but the Zuma has a locking under seat storage and you can simply stop at a gas station if you need to fuel up
On the other hand if longer trips aren't on the menu, this can be taken inside at night
I'm in Texas also...I bought an E-bike purely because of the exercise and it gets me outside. As an older person, and out of shape, I found a regular bicycle impractical. The e-bike at least allows me some kind of a work-out. That Ariel he has is just too fast for a bicycle, at least in my opinion. Mine will go 28mph downhill and around 20 on a flat stretch and that is fast enough for me. Not to mention it was under a grand to buy with no shipping charges. (Lectric is the brand)

I had the idea of getting a bicycle to get back and forth to work because that way I don't have to worry about a car or motorcycle breaking down
Only thing is my job is about 20 mi away from my house, and I don't think starting off with a 20 mile ride after not being on a bicycle for years would be a great idea 😂

The variety of e-bikes now available is tremendous, although I am not entirely comfortable with the idea that most of the manufacturing value is in the batteries and motors, which are 90% Chinese in origin. They are definitely the future though.
Given the weight limit, to use the two seater version I am going to need a really skinny girlfriend! 😂
A regular seat post would go a long way for seat choices and adjustability, otherwise pretty cool machine

Just so everyone is clear, the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service regulations categorize eMTBs as a “motorized” use. Therefore, eMTBs are only permitted where motorized vehicles are allowed.
There’s class 1, class 2, and class 3 eBikes. Only class 1 bikes are typically allowed on mountain bike trails. This looks like a class 3.

I do believe there is a way to unlock more power or speed with a code. Gain an extra 5mph or so. Ah, you mention that later👍.. You may get a rack and little bag to vary an extra battery. That works for extending off road trips. 🤔
These companies ship the bikes at a reduced speed that can be up-rated via their menu's. it's common practice and allows them to circumvent US restrictions on what is allowed or not allowed on our streets/pavements and whether you need a license/insurance etc. As far as I remember, you cannot exceed around 20mph on the street on an e-bike(I could be wrong) and the setting(class) it ships with reflects that. Almost the first thing though, that everyone does, is go into the menu and change the speed settings.

@@_rumple_5199 Depends on the state. The 20 mph limit is just for class 2 ebikes. Class 3 lets you go 28mph. The 1000w motor on this though instantly makes it illegal as an ebike. Can't have over 750 w continuous.

I am not sure why these have bicycle peddles and derailleur. If you hade a final drive and foot pegs then it couldn’t be classified as a bicycle is that it? I mean I get it for the bicycles that are electric, but this particular style and the super76 are different.

My problem with most ebikes is that you only have a choice between CCP junk or boutique stuff that is drastically overpriced. I could not find any info on their site that mentions where the bikes are made. That is usually indicative of them being made in china.
Moreover, all these companies lie when it comes to range and speed. It is so common that people don't even think about it anymore. The major makers need to get into ebikes and emotorcycles. I'm not paying $2500 for this when I can get a small used motorcycle.
Edit: I contacted Ariel. After trying to deflect my very direct question about where the bikes are made by saying "Our parts are sourced globally, as we’re using reputable manufacturers for parts that are coming from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, etc." they finally stated *"They are assembled in China."*

In my country in Europe everything is going to be regulated, no matter how well people behave. There was a time when more freedom could be enjoyed, now have to be lucky to be able to ride a bicycle in nature because a whole lot of places are forbidden even for bicycles, not to mention motorcycles.
What your forgetting to tell the masses is that you can not cut the bike off period unless you remove battery bike has no kill switch

These electric mopeds will be the future of transportation when we hit peak oil. Hopefully in a couple of years the energy density will improve to the point of 2KWh with the same weight of this one (1 KWh) and charging speed will increace to get 100 mile range at 25+ mph.

"Peak oil" is a myth, my friend. But we don't need that as a reason to enjoy E-bikes, do we?
Hub motors, chains, tires and tubes have a very short lifespan on Ebikes compared to a gas scooter or car. Costs to run Ebikes as daily commuters are much higher than people realize.

This is not legal in Texas . 750 watt motor is max for Texas. Max speed 28mph. Class 3. I would imagine this is not legal in most states.
Very odd that there’s no seat height adjustment. It’s obviously not made for efficient pedaling, and yet you get a mess of gears to choose from. You’d think they should have made it a single-speed, geared for starting off, and for limping the bike home if you run out of juice 🧃.
There is a ton of height adjustment on Lectric bikes compared to Ariel. They have regular seats and you can adjust for small riders to people well over 6 feet tall. As for the gearing, other than the first few rides, I ignored it. I start off with the electric motor to get me going, then peddle on the top gear when I get up to speed. Lectric bikes and perhaps other manufacturers have a walk mode, just in case you run out of juice, it will keep at a constant low speed so you can walk it home. Personally, I have never used it; you can tell when you are getting low on juice.

Hmmm, electric 'bikes'. Thanks for the review but I will not go willingly down that route. Every 3 weeks I ride a round trip of 1050 miles on my motorcycle; not something that an e-bike will accomplish any time soon.
