    My Granddad was there when the earth quake happened he was in his middle 20s . I remember him telling us kids about it and how Bad it was .

    How San Francisco Was Devastated By The 1906 Earthquake 1924pm 18.4.22 wow. no need for war you just need the odd earthquake to have your contractors re-invest in the state - to build up again....p.s discussing wooden interiors this afternoon in the pub.. 1666 great fire of london - all those exquisite intricate wooden interiors burnt to a crisp...

    My grandfather was there, just 3 years old. His sister was 6. His parents lost their SOMA bar, and their Russian Hill home dynamited, to try to stop the fire. My great uncle was SFPD. They moved in with him and his wife and two years later the insurance settled. My family were immigrants from Ireland, and they got 2 cents on the dollar for their losses. They lost everything: home, livelihood. And they were given 15 minutes to grab what they could from their home before leaving it to ruin, to “ help put out the great fire” which it did not
