As someone with no prior understanding of PR, some of the "basic" things you explained this stream really opened up my mind. I think you are doing the community a great service with your perspective and knowledge. Thank you.

PR to me sounds a lot like civil infrastructure. If its working well, generally no one talks about it or doesnt recognizes it, but when there are probelms, like with infrastructure if there are potholes or if a bridge falls down, everyone notices, everyone complains.
Everyone recognizes PR is necessary but generally only has bad examples or examples when PR has failed.

You mention not wanting to have talking about Niji being your schtick, and I just want to say it's totally understandable to talk about them as an example, because they really are a good learning tool. They messed up so badly that even the average person knows it was not just bad, but exceptionally bad. It's a very good way to illustrate a point, because you can point to them and say "this is what happens when you don't follow these principles" and people can very clearly draw the connection.
That being said, I totally get your hesitance to bring them up, since your channel is in its formative stages and I don't think talking about Niji drama is a sustainable business model, not when there are so many people doing it and Niji's future in the EN sphere is...uncertain. Just know that I, at least, am not here for Niji, I'm here for what amounts to free lessons in PR/misc yapping about other interesting topics, despite hopefully never needing to use what I learn. I just like to learn, and you package things in a very pleasant way. I'll definitely be tuning in for more stream VoDs in the future, excellent work.

A good expample for really good journalism are Gamers Nexus, Kitguru, Hardware Unboxed and JayzTwoCents. It's not a coindicende that all of these YT channels are in the computer hardware branch because that's what I am interested in, it does not show that this branch has better journalism than others. We need good journalism to govern over really bad scummy practices by big businesses. When we lose good journalism, we will speed up dystopia.

About the debat on Twitter : people tend to forget that twitter was actually decent before Tumblr shut down the porn section. When it happen, a flood of weirdos came in to share their interest (like anyone) and here come the problem : people at the time took them seriously instead of seeing that as a quirk or a fantasy like they should have. And what happen when quirky weirdos become serious ? Hell break loose !
As it stand, Twitter disappearing wouldn't do any good since another SNS will take the place and in turn, become shit. What we need is a specialised space for the weirdos or the tool for them to create said space. Even better : confining them in ! Rejecting them out of anything else ! I don't know if there's already a tool but I'm sure there's neither confinement nor rejection.
TLDR : Gatekeep harder guys ! No matter what they say, if they can't adapt to us they must get out ! Of course it goes both way.

Political twitter was a mess way before tumblr showed up. The only problem was that some people began taking the tumblr users seriously. Spawning stuff like whatever tf "coded" and height of consent and whatnot.
Don't get the twitter freaks over un tumblr. They can stay on twitter, and came more from facebook than tumblr

'modern audience' is not a failure to understand demographics, its deliberate manipulation.
right up front its shaming people that fall outside of it, implying them to be antiquated in their attitudes and tastes.
its also exclusivly used by people actively attacking the demographic they know full well their product is for. they say inclusive but their rhetoric is exclusive, and its always directed at the existing fanbase. the target audience, that they slander and vilify.

Something that the Offkai con issues brings to mind is that anime cons are largely volunteer staffed. Even long running anime cons can have various issues due to manpower issues and perhaps more importantly, lack of institutional experience from either just being a new con or an old one that doesn't have a system in place to always have someone experienced in place for every important role.
So for something like Offkai being very new, having to learn on the fly, and appears to have very large attendance numbers; I would totally expect something level of something going wrong like this and think its a success if the con is able to hold another one next year.

    • @PiscestheDirty

Last year, Zen openly talked about bad exp with Offkai.
This year, Offkai Management and Organizers dropped the ball, hard. It is unacceptable that they removed the talent from the con without reason, just because of some small part of volunteers don't like the talent.
That's no way to do things.

@@PiscestheDirtyZen’s bad experience with offkai last year was entirely their fault. Zen and Haruka spent 5+ minutes per person during their meet and greet, holding up the room far past their scheduled time and delaying other guests’ meet and greet sessions

@@PiscestheDirty I think offkai had bigger issues last year than Zen complaining about her time. Besides it's one thing when one person has an issue with a relatively small part of the entire con, and it's another when volunteers are confirmed to try to control the con behind the scenes based on their personal political opinions of a vtuber.

I think an element that also factors in is after the stream got scuffed but before we heard more a lot of the beloved phase girls expressed sadness and disappointment at the project they worked so hard on just scuffed but perceived to be sabotage...
And when you F with our Oshis and make them cry, especially after all Phase has done for the community, it becomes personal.

A bit off topic, but my biggest issue with Elara isn't how she did the interview (honestly she did an ok job), but that she does this interview and claims that everyone should get a shot and defending themselves. While at the same time pretty much saying that all loli vtubers are pdf files. So she comes of as a bit of a hypocrite and a tourist. (Hypocrite because she doesn't let everyone defend themselves even from her, and tourist because she has a channel where she talks about Vtuber matters but apparently doesn't understand the "culture").

Another thing, since it was brought up later in the stream and I feel like Armcha1r could be a good person to talk about this if he's knowledgeable.
VShojo is a company that's being exonerated as one of the good ones right now and there are definitely reasons for why it's happening at the moment, but it's also had a lot of bad attention in the past, so I'm not sure how I'd rate its PR overall. I'm also not sure how effective Gunrun is as the face/humanising force of VShojo, I might not have been following as closely, but I don't feel like he's on the same level as Yagoo or Sakana. And I don't know if this is an experience shared by others, but personally my image of VShojo as a company and by extension Gunrun was marred back in the VShojo vs Nux controversy.

    • @theArmcha1rExpert

28:40 ... ngl felt more like people had off vibes about Kirsche in general and then searched up tweets to quickly get that vibe across in writing?
Also overall (agreeing with holyseraph) this feels like expecting a team of volunteers to have their stuff together as a major company should, when that very much wouldn't be a reasonable standard for amateur volunteers to be held to (imo). Stream's tone at the start/while expositing about the offkai situation feels a bit mean in that regard? (Or like it could have used some reasoning as to why this also warrants the level of expectations that might be levelled against a regular professional company ... ngl to me this sounds within the spectrum of to be expected for volunteers)
