It will never actually be a “dwarf” plumeria. It has to actually be a dwarf variety. You can make the trunk shorter like you have done, but the new branches will still grow long if that is its growing habit, which it looks like it is. I also would not water the stump until it grows new leaves, or starts to slightly shrivel from dehydration. Then, just a very small amount of water or it will rot.

How much new growth did you get? Can you post an update?

Hi thanks for the comment and request! I immediately went out and filmed a quick update specifically about the plumeria. It should be posted tonight I hope. Tomorrow if I’m unlucky!

They did great all my cuttings grew. And the mother plant has 4 nice branches. It’s big though so I have a plan to give it away

How will it make out with such a harsh pruning?

I’m really not sure what will happen! I know it’s supposed to be ok but only time will tell!

Vous avez l’air de vivre dans un pays relativement froid en hiver, rentrez vous votre plumeria pendant la saison froide ?

    • @visitmybigbackyard

Yes it gets cold here in the winter. I bring the plumeria inside from October through April. It can handle a bit of a chill but I can’t let it freeze.

You could be waiting a while. I’m thinking I won’t get any flowers this year because of recovery time for the stump and rooting time for the cuttings! Do you want a cutting?

Better odds of getting blooms from the cuttings than the stump. Probably won’t get any on that this year.
