Ngl, Kaito's was my favorite execution even tho he was my favorite character. Even though I hated to see him go, the way he went out was the best way he could have.

And the fact that the execution failed was so freaking satisfying! He went out rather peacefully from his sickness, which Tsumgi herself gave him, which screwed up the painful death she had planned for him. And how he ended up becoming a blackened was great too. Since it was a killing game, I expected my favorite characters to die, but when a character I really liked killed for a selfish reason, it made me more upset then the character dying. I would have rather the character been murdered then become a twisted blackened with selfish reasoning. The fact that Kaito was still so encouraging and helpful up until his death made me really happy.
I personally think kaito’s death was like a grand finale before Tsumugi’s reveal as the mastermind. It’s as sort of a build up as a show stopping execution before the big surprise twist.

Theory time though- I have dug deeper into danganronpa and watched how each character acts very and I mean very very closely. So I have found that maybe Nagito (or) Kokichi might have Multiple Personality Disorder. Why? Because they both have a very different side in certain times and places, they both can go crazy at any time possible, and because they both have a physical threat to their classmates, (spoilers) Kokichi has been smacked but he caught back many many times. I also think because of UDG (ultimate despair girls) and Nagito came back then, in He managed to hack into a certain device to make his case extra hard, who’s also good at hacking? Alter Ego. Who did ego save? Naegi. Who did Naegi persuade? Hajime. Who is Hajime? Izuru. And who was with Izuru? Nagito. And there you have it, a big boi theory.
