Hey, this is one of my fav retro gaming channels, and I always look forward to your vids. I hope you continue to do uploads, I miss them.
I always thought the game was beautiful and looked so fun but I SUCKED at it and was very limited in quarters. I never gave it a fair go. I love the personal stories
Stories are the greatest!!!
Thank you dude. Agreed that the game is visually beautiful, but it humbles you quickly lol
An absolute legend of the arcade - i lost so much money in this game!! When i think of hitting the arcade back in the day, this game immediately jumps to mind!
Glad you're back my friend. I've missed your videos. One of the best channels in RUclips.
You're very kind to say that. Thanks so much 🙏
Man it’s great to see you back. I really enjoy your vids. Keep up the good work. Man i miss the old arcades. My mom worked in a mall when I was a kid (were the same age) and this old man that run it would give me quarters all day to help my mom out. Also in those he did that and never tried to touch my fun parts or treat me like an alter boy. It was a good and different time in the 80’s. Now we have to watch every move our kids make and could never leave them someplace all day like that. Hell…..not even in school anymore.
Very glad to see new content from you!
Thank you so much 🙏
G3!!! I'm glad to see a new video from you, hope y'all are well and healthy!
So glad you are back love these videos
Thanks Eric 🙏
I look forward to all your content. Keep up the amazing channel.
Thank you very much for saying that Daniel. Really means a lot to me 🙏

So glad you're back, man!
My homie back, glad you are back brother, you looking real healthy my guy, great video as always 💯💪🏽, u da man Tyler
I'm proud of your editing skills increasing! Keep it Up Tyler! I can't wait to see what you have next!
Its been too long for a video bro...i LOVE your channel...love the NES stuff but arcade stuff is great too...dont wait as long for the next...thanks for the video, I appreciate your content 👍
Great to see you back! I've never had the patience for this game but nice to see it played so well. Btw, you're looking very trim and fit these days, congrats of whatever you are doing. :)
Bought this game on the switch cuz i never finished it on the arcade. With your great walktroughs its a piece of cake now. Thanks for the help.
Welcome back & great video! :D
I always love seeing new content on your channel. I've never played this game, believe it or not! 😬 Excellent video Tyler, and you're looking great too, man!
Hey man, you are one of my favorite channels. Always loved your take on the classics. Anywho…
You look a little thinner in your last few vids. Hope all is well!! I’m sure I speak for everyone, stay safe and we look forward to more awesome content!!!
Love this Channel!
Great to see you back! Loved the video
Thank you Samuel for the welcome back! Hope you are doing well
Hey man where you been at? You got ppl over here that miss you
I remember being entranced by this game as a kid when I saw it in the arcade because no other game looked like it at the time! I think I finally played it in the early 90s (it was also like a dollar to play instead of $0.50 so convincing mom to let me play it was NOT easy). I was so excited to finally get the chance to try it out.....aaaaaand I IMMEDIATELY died, multiple times in the same spot, and I was done. 😂😂😂 SUCH a difficult game!
Loved this game back in the day. First played it when it came out in 1983. I was 8. Great memories.
Can’t wait for the Arcade1Up! For now, I have to settle for the New Wave version. Great video as always.
Looking good man!
I remember seeing this as a kid but never got the opportunity to try it out. Thank you for the content!
You are most welcome
miss you, wherever you be. hope all is well!!!
Good to see you again. Keep it southern
KICK ASS! Loved playing this in the arcade! Used to go there with a roll of quarters just for that game! Glad to see ya again! Great work!
Felt good to be back John. Thanks for watching man
Thinking of you! You don't owe us anything, not even an explanation. I'm gonna go re-watch the old content for now - you did some great guides!!! I just hope everything is well :)
Thank you man! Very kind of you. I actually got a new video in the works. Means a lot to read your comment. Have a great week
I enjoyed the pop up window with the personal experiences. Glad to see you back with another video. Hope all is well and you are just too busy to post as regularly.
Welcome back brother!!!
We had a Goldmine in Johnson City Tennessee where I live. First game i ever blew my whole allowance on in there was double dragon!!!
I always thought d.lair was cool, but didn't have much access to it. Man, it's so good to see you and have you give us some tasty goodies!!!
i went to your channel yesterday to see if you've been uploading because i miss your content, glad to see this video today!
Makes me very happy to hear that🙏
I sure miss these videos. Hope all is well.
TYLER!!! Welcome back!!! Looking great bro!!
Thanks man! 💪
Wow you have lost weight, good for you sir, love your RUclips content keep up the great work.👍
This game is how I picture a Shadowgate cartoon: death with every wrong move.
Great to see you again, Tyler! You’re looking really good with the weight loss!
Kind of cool to watch someone play through this! I'm happy that you have it in your collection! You've got some skills for sure!
Thanks Joey! Great to hear from you man. Hope all is well.
@@GenerationGapGaming Doing good sir! Hope you've been well and it's good to see your stuff again!
Glad to have you back.
Thank you Kendall! Hope you are doing well.
Hey G3,
First, just wanted to say I am happy that you are back making videos and that you are healthy and have energy again. I don't know what or if you had any medical difficulties (because I think it would be rude to ask as well as none of my business) but you look healthy again, it is good to see and best of luck with everything moving onwards and upwards !👍
Second, maybe you should start making videos where you just discuss old games from the 80s and 90s. Just like you did here with Dragon's Lair (for example, personal experiences, personal memories, anecdotes)
I am being totally serious. You have storytelling talent and I think you should expand that aspect of the channel. I would and I think others would watch videos where you just break the 4th wall and converse with the audience, because we can all relate to arcades, and the 90s and sights and sounds of malls in the late 80s etc.
Also, it would save you from the burnout that a lot of creators face if you didn't have to worry about editing, music etc, just off the cuff conversation with your subscribers about your days growing up playing certain video games might be interesting direction to take the channel
G3!! Welcome back, buddy!!! Ya look great man!
Thank you my friend! Great to hear from you
Great game.Played 2 in the arcade.Never got to play the first game. But had the PC version was really a fun time. 😀
My Dad used to let me try 2 times. Unfortunately he passed and I was never good...But like u bro this emotional connection is far deeper than most. I still want to win...Never Have. I am sure he is watching down on this post smiling.
HEY G3 WELCOME BACK! :D I've played this on the Wii collection a while back where you get this space ace and the dragon's lair sequel.
As for the arcade game itself considering when it was released it was way ahead of its time.
I never got to play it like this growing up when it was in the arcade, but I can only imagine how many people waited to just play this. :D
I look forward to your future videos! Take care.
( P.S. Just wondering are you going to be doing more NES game reviews soon?
I hope you still do one for Iron Tank that I recommended sometime. Its a very underappreciated game for the NES that I highly recommend. )
Looking good brotha!
Thanks! I'm trying to be a little healthier
Where you been Tyler? Miss you and your vids
Thanks 🙏 I just got my snes mini modded and I have this 💎 included I’m not familiar with it only from movies and seeing it growing up in arcades so this is awesome
Glad you enjoyed Jay!
Where you at man??? Miss your videos 🙌🏻🤘🏻
He said he's taken some time away from RUclips and hasn't had much inspiration for making videos in a while.
@@joshuariddensdale2126 Thanks for the heads up. Completely understandable.
@@joshuariddensdale2126 Just out of curiosity, where did you hear that?
I have been both guys. Love ur take.
I played the DVD version ALL THE TIME as a kid!!
Your back !!
Took a while though lol
I used to play this game at AMC theaters. This one and Captain America and the Avengers got all my money. I never beat it so the playthrough was awesome. Thanks.
I remember the dragon's lair arcade game would come only when the the fair will come into town it's the only time I could play it in the arcade it was 50 cents I love that I'm the Sega CD it's an incredible game I love it for my switch I always have a blast beating it
Great video Tyler!! It sounds like you are losing your WV accent..I believe I've lost my KY accent too...love the mullet shorts👍👍
what a time machine thank you
been playing both my replicade DL's and still learning the more difficult levels. i only recently at age 47 figured out how to get through the easier levels lol
This reminds me of what the Sega character TR would say: "What am I even supposed to do here? No the screen's blank now. And... I LOSE?! THAT THE F... WAS THAT?!"
I pumped so many quarters into this machine. Great video!
Thanks! This one was definitely a quarter eater 🤣
Love this channel! Looking *fit*, by the way!
Thank you Gordon. Trying to stay on top of my health a little better. Im not sick or anything, just trying to stay in shape lol
@@GenerationGapGaming great to see you doing well, my friend! Looking very healthy and fit - good for you! Keep that content coming!
The mullet is back, missed you brother!
Come back!
Glad you're back
Thanks Nate! Great to hear from you buddy.
@@GenerationGapGaming of course my friend glad to see another video and hear from you all of us care about you
@@GenerationGapGaming I'm going to buy this game I never played it when I was a kid I could definitely get it on my Xbox One for the 360
@@GenerationGapGaming what's so crazy how good this game looks this looks better than a lot of games that's new I don't know what they did but this game looks amazing it's like cinematic I know it's not all about cinematics the gameplay has to be good to but man for the time that this game came out it looks like it could be a 2022 game
@@GenerationGapGaming this game was freaking amazing
thank you for this and please I hope to see you post again soon
Thanks Glen!
This game is a huge part of my childhood too. I always associate this game to the Chuck E. Cheese arcade. Up until that point I was used to playing games at convenience stores or mom and pop shops. Usually in a small dark backroom. But it was at CEC that I first came across Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. But DL was the one for me. I think I only got to play the game twice there because it was always filled with people. they later added a monitor at the top so that people standing in the back could see that game better. Then later on I ran into this game again at a place called Skateland. My friends and I would go there on Saturday nights. the rink was packed with people skating to 80s music. but they had an arcade that ran along side the rink and DL was right in the center. Every time we went no one was playing it. Most of the guys that were within the arcade area were older than me and seemed to be more into the pinball games then the video games. So I got to play DL as much as I could. It was either DL or the girl that liked me. She always wanted to skate with me and hold hands. I was always back and forth between the two. I was still a kid ok.
I remember having a pc version of 1 and 2. Later I had a dvd version. then I've had them on my consoles, ps3, xbox 360 and 1. Since I no longer have the xboxes I think I'll be getting it on the ps5 soon. I don't think it costs that much.
Sounds like some wonderful memories there man
Where you been
This game blew my mind when I walked by it in the arcade. I sucked so bad at it. Game ate quarters.
Hey Slim!!!! Look at you (hope it's on purpose, not cuz u were violently iLL!), glad to see u back bud!
Hey!!!! Yes the weight loss was intentional lol. I'm not sick. I do feel much better.
The disappearing checkerboard floor was the toughest to master.
Would love to see A Nightmare on Elm St. NES by GenerationGapGaming!
Tyler r u ok r u alive are you still posting . .miss ya bro hope your well
U alive bud...this is your apple 2e editing computer. It's been 2 months your video has just uploaded
Just thought about your channel and thought I’d check if there was a new video or post. Hope all is well…
I love Dragon’s Lair, first saw it in a Bowling Alley, I was 15 when the game came out, had the game on the Coleco Adam Computer, I still have my Dragon’s Lair trading cards, just bought the Arcade 1Up version, plus was part of the kickstart program for New Waves 1/6 version, love that smaller machine of the original cabinet, love Space Ace too, but Dragon’s Lair 2, not so much, my least favorite of the three.
Welcome back again bro.
Thank you Hunter! Hope you've been doing well my friend
@@GenerationGapGaming so far so good. Appreciate you asking.
My dude!!!!
What's up Jay! Glad to see you on here my friend
Great video! Not that I cared when you were bigger, but as a person who has struggled with their weight most of my life, congrats on the weight loss! You look great! Any chance you'll stream again?
Now, as for this game... so u know I grew up in Queens, NY... we didn't have too many "arcades" as everyone knows them. There were a couple sure, but mostly our video games were in candy stores, video stores, Bodegas, movie theaters...
BUT, I was 5 in 1983 when this game came out, and me, my dad, and my older brother were ALREADY going to the "main arcade" in Cross Bay/Howard Beach called THE BOW WOW. It was a fried food, hot dog, burger, fries, milk shake place, a LOT of picnic table seating when u walk in, lotta kids parties... but once u got past like the 25 tables, and opened the black glass double doors, THERE IT WAS, why kids LOVED the Bow Wow--- games games games and more games!! I'm not lying, 50, 60 of em!!! EVERYTHING, Spy Hunter, SF1, bunch of WWF games, classic games, OPERATION WOLF, OUTRUN, all 3 star wars games, I mean this was a LEGIT arcade; no basketball shooting hoops against the clock, no friggin whack-a-mole, no skiball, JUST VIDEO GAMES... it was MAYHEM, GOD, I'm 44 this coming May the 4th, and I STILL would use one of 10 wishes if I ever got them on bringing that place back lol...
I was 5-8 or so when we steadily went, and I forget when it closed, maybe when I was 8 or 9, sad day... but I remember we would go at least 3 times a month (it was a solid 20, 25 min ride, no highways, so it was a pain to get to on those Saturday early afternoons, otherwise we'd go more), and maybe once a month, I'd STARE at Dragons Lair...and if I not only got the courage to play, but was lucky enough not to be like 12th on line, I'd die INSTANTLY--- I was too young, I didn't get it.... I finally was old enough, good enough to make it thru only like 5 exits, but that was enough to both hook me for life, AND make me hate "this friggin impossible game!!!"
As I got even OLDER, and was a gamer, I wanted another crack at it, but good luck finding it anywhere ... then it came out for Sega CD, the REASON I got that underrated, awesome home console--- AND I STILL FRIGGIN SUCKED AT IT!!! To the point i never got rid of Dragons Lair, but i thought the game was broken. Im talking 25 tries on the VERY 1ST SCREEN, the bridge!!! But then I ACTUALLY MADE IT PAST the hole on the bridge, so I knew it was either me or the controller lol, but it COULD be played. Yet, I still had no clue where/when to press anything, and I gave up again...
Finally, jeez, I must've been like 18, 20 years old... America online was all the rage lol.... i printed out the HOW TO guide, and after had to be 60, 75 tries, I beat it. And then it became 50 tries, 30, 20, etc.... and then PS1 came out and away Sega CD went...
Now I'm a Retro/Raspberry Pi guy, so I jumped at the chance to play it again. I'm still pretty bad, but I could get like 3 screens before the Dragons Lair, before I REALLY started racking up the deaths...
Instead of turning it off just 4 months ago last time I played, I said IM BEATING THIS FRIGGIN GAME, don't care how long... and my stepdaughters huge MODERN game nerd 22 year old boyfriend is over and he sits to watch me play, I keep saying "try, try, play, ur good at games..." (but mostly cuz my thumbs hurt and I needed a break on my 30th shot at the last stage.... "no no, I love these old games, but I suck at em, I like Call of Duty and God of War and stuff..."
"Damnit Joe, PLAY, my hands are cramping. This is the last stage, here's the list of what u gotta do, just get familiar with it while I get a couple more beers...."
"Ehhhh.....ok ill TRY..."
Yeah u know where I'm going with this... mofo BEATS THE DRAGONS LAIR/FINAL STAGE ON HIS 1ST GODDAMN TRY!!!!!
I wanted to KILLLLLL HIM!!! 🤣 🤣
I haven't played since, he and my stepkid broke up, so I can never see if it was a fluke or not that he tried ONCE and won... but I still wanna DDT him if I ever bump into him again, just for that 🤣 🤣 🤣
Sounds like the BowWow was an awesome place!!!! I would also wanna DDT 🐍him too for that 🤣🤣🤣
@@GenerationGapGaming lol... a good DDT is totally reasonable in many situations...
The Bow Wow was frigging HEAVEN to all 6-16 year old kids even slightly into arcade games... im tellin u, it was like arcade consoles as far as the eye could see, with maybe just like 2 games having 2 consoles for popularity. I gotta look into reopening it... it became a goddamn Fudruckers, with all their lame "grab a stuffed animal" and "push the coins off the ledge" space wasting games lol
@@GenerationGapGaming 🤣 I just googled it (1st off, I forgot, it was called the BIG Bow Wow), and 99% of the few pics are of the facade or grill, but there's ONE pic of an arcade game for Big Bow Wow--- and it's Dragon's Lair! Hahaha
My friend was an ace on this , and I picked up a thing or two from him , but I didn’t get that very far , to be honest. Sure would’ve liked though. It’s a beautiful game.
Thank you for making this this is one game that I was always so curious about but I absolutely sucked at and I didn't have any idea what I was doing unfortunately I never got to play it growing up I never had access to it I only heard about it then when I finally was able to play it yeah that's about the end of my fun there so time to definitely give it another try and finally check it off my bucket list.
You are welcome Eric. I hope the video helps. It can be a frustrating game just starting out lol
Is there a shortage of periods and capital letters in your reality?
I believe you can also use this arcade cabinet the play Space Ace.
Because they both run on laserdiscs.
Hey my friend hope things are goin good hope to a new vid soon!
This game was a huge part of my childhood. Played the Bluth trilogy wherever I could find them. Currently have them on Android, PS3 Blu-ray, New Wave Replicades, and the Arcade1up cab. I could never find a real cab. If you don't mind sharing, how did you get one? Thanks and great content!
CLASSIC GAME! 👍
Glad your back making videos! You got skinny during the lay off, I see 👀
Loved this games animation (Don Bluth). I remember it from the arcade and Sega CD. Word is Ryan Reynolds is down for a Netflix series. Go Reds.
For those who have the home version on Nintendo DS, the move-set for the drawbridge scene is either "Sword, Up, Right" or "Sword, Right".
Thanks William. It was odd that I didn't get the opening drawbridge scene in this round lol
There was a video game show in the early 80s. They showed clips of Dragons Lair and my mind was blown! I always wondered about this game. I finally saw it just a couple years ago in a retro arcade. Playability was awful (don’t know if game was busted or this is just how it is). I file this under “Never meet your hero’s”
I’m stuck on the elevator board I die every time I don’t know when to get off the elevator
A favorite. Never beat it in the arcade. Also hated how it was usually 75 or a dollar to play. I get it, it was pretty high tech back then, but back then a dollar was a lot!
It really was quite a lot to ask people to pay that much then. Especially since it was such a trial and error style game. Robbing everyone blind back then 🤣
The youtube algorithm isn't doing you justice.
Energy feels off in this video, but glad you’re back looking fit too
I hear ya Nick. I guess I'm out of practice. The passion is there to make a good video, but sometimes it just doesn't come through the camera 100%
Childhood PTSD alert😮
The electric floor always, to this day prevents me from having a perfect playthrough
I used to know this game inside out when it was released, and if I went as player 2 and beat the game without losing a life then player 1 got unlimited lives. People used to pay me to get them unlimited l lives.
My opinion of DL is not a fond one, for me is was the video game that had the shortest amount of play time per quarter, it was stupid frustrating. But I will say it was enjoyable to be at the arcade and watch some kid who did know the timing and get really far. To each their own I say, good video. 👍🏻
New video please???
What is the timing for the two spining bags with the wizard at the end ?
0:25 I remember his grandpa, Chad 2 Badd, from Sourhpaw Regional Wrestling.
Are you coming back regularly? Hope all is good.
Everything is ok here personally. I will be here as regularly as possible.
How do you get through the part where you are dropping on the platform and it has like 3 separate 3 move directions to get off of the platform. I've tried pressing all 9 and it stills drops and kills me. I've tried the last 3 only and I still die. What do I do here?
