I stood right in front of the bassist at a recent show (his dreads were literally smacking me in the face) and I have never heard a more inspiring bass sound in my life. And his grooves are just top notch.
You only gotta see the smile in his face while playing. That says it all: The man is where he always wanted to be, doing what he loves most. And he's incredibly good at it.
Try Nolly in Periphery. Dirtier, more solid, same depth with more bulk. Equally good player. I ended up buying a Dingwall NG2 because of Nolly. Nothing like it. Have to say though, the 050 bass here looks like Donald Trump designed it. Gawdy and then some. Or an 11 year old boy did it. Just tastes though, innit ;)
btw a Dingwall EXCELS when it has a B7K pedal stuck on it. I have found a Jazz bass and Ricky just don't drive it with anything like the same gritty tone. m2c
Only problem with Dingwalls in my opinion is they're strictly workhorses. The company doesn't offer basically anything in the form of custom options. I love the design and sound, but I wish they gave the customers more options.
this sounds so much better than the original mix. It really lacked low frequencies. I hope they improve on that with the next record, cause musically this album was amazing!
I know this is 6 years old but no one has told you that you're fucking wrong yet, presumably because they're all just willing to accept that you're fucking stupid and move on, and so I'm gonna have to stop you. You're wrong and stupid so fuck you.
I will never forget about my experience back in 2014 with my two best friends seeing this band called “Monuments????” live at a church…. Sounds like a cool band name gosh I wonder what kind of music they play??? ( me and my two best friends were diehard Metal heads by the way)!!! Long story short… when there first song dropped…. (record player screech) no one expected it at all, the entire atmosphere in the church shifted 😂 They clearly started with there most HEAVIEST song first!! My friends and I thought it was bad ass as fuck!! The band members on stage realized that everyone in the audience was shocked at what they just witnessed but yet also very amazed at the exact same time!!! Granted most of the people there were moms & dads with there 10-15 year olds including old Christian ladies 😂 and a few youth ministers in there 20s 30s!! After the first song was over I assume that they made a collective decision to play there “slightly more softer style songs” After there first song was over they noticed that there was only 3 guys standing in front of the stage!! Those three motherfuckers were me and my best friends standing in front of the stage 😂
I saw these guys in Boston earlier this year, with TesseracT and the vocalist was not there. they played their set all instrumental. Although it would have been great to have the vocals they were BADASS
Would be cool even with just one of them! Chris B is a badass too...but can be hard to handle from what I've read. The Mons have been my favorite band since I first heard them. It's a shame Malyan left though. He was PERFECT for the band and brought some killer grooves. While they brought in some awesome replacements, Malyan just kills IMO!
Nah the real rarity was when Chris was sick and then played sax for vocals instead. But chris left the band so unless andy plays sax as well, we likely won't see that anymore
unfortunately I have a lot more else to spend on than a bass but it sure would be nice one day. My other obsession is drums, which obviously costs more and I can only play air drums to some extent so I have another dream left unfulfilled :D
Breath taking, watched them perform in early 2017. I've watched and listened to so many bands since the early 1970's and this band prove Darwin's theory. Perfection with a plectrum.
All of these covers make me wish that all of the riffing was actually audible on the record. Perhaps theyll have to put out a remaster of this album someday. I'd be all over that shit. Full disclosure: I am still very much working on my mixing ears, so I could just be wrong.
Bass sound amazing. Just one cons, why most of the song both guitars play exactly the same notes just bas octave lower? It sounds not too much ambitious.
Would I be able to get close to that tone with a Marcus Miller V7 or P7? Otherwise I can only think of the Sterling Sub 5 or Cort JB75JH. I want to be able to get an Amos Williams type sound as well, so I guess split-able MM style pickups are the best bet right? Option paralysis is getting the best of me, help me out please lol
What pedals is the guitarist using? Looks like an OCD overdrive, a 7-band eq from boss (the brownish gray looking pedal in the middle) and a boss noise cancelling pedal on the far left.. the boss one as well...? Im just curious.. anyone have any better guesses?
Yes, it was the 7 band eq, the other pedal was a noisegate, also a boss. And indeed the OCD overdrive, used as a boost and drive. The eq was also used as a boost, don't know for sure anymore, was a long time ago.
TheFreewareGamer Bass/ DI out (warwick amp) to RME Babyface -> Cubase -> cab impulse and a little compression/limiting Guitar/ Line out (rivera amp) to RME Babyface -> Cubase -> cab impulse Main track Atlas/ M+S Eq/ S channel slightly lowered.
Monuments is a very good and technical band, but why do I have a feeling I heard all of this soooo many times? Riffs, timings, vocal patterns ? It does not feel new, interesting, fresh at all. I don't have that feeling with Protest The Hero.
I struggle to believe that considering vast majority of bassists couldn't play anything near the calibre of this... So if you are hearing stuff that is familiar it may be the actual tone used, potentially plug in etc... Like plini and intervals have quite similar sounds but that's due to using pretty much the same gear and plug ins... Adam drives the band in this situation though which is different... You hear his bass over double kicks instead of the other way round... It's rather forward compared to the more recent stuff which I find a bit more mainstream
I love this sort of music. The vocals often really annoy me. It's my number one dislike of Periphery. Best I can suggest to you is UK band Oceansize (older stuff) where shouting is only used if it has a point. Not as heavy in production and thinking though. Still gloriously complex and inventive. If you don't like it, who cares? You just found another thing you don't like, so that's good.
I stood right in front of the bassist at a recent show (his dreads were literally smacking me in the face) and I have never heard a more inspiring bass sound in my life. And his grooves are just top notch.
+Austin Palmer He's one of my favorite bassists, just a killer band all around!
Austin Palmer I am jealous
You only gotta see the smile in his face while playing. That says it all: The man is where he always wanted to be, doing what he loves most. And he's incredibly good at it.
He is just a lovely man all round
I like how these two finally get the attention they deserve and not only John Browne
+Sean Bateson word
+Root Of The Mountain Well he does write the music
+Sean Bateson Don't get me wrong, John is an amazing musician! But Monuments wouldn't be as good as it is today without these two
browne did write all of this
Damn Olly crossed his legs quick @ 1:14
Obviously a multi take
hahahahahaha
The fastest kick of djent mental!!
😆
That bass sounds monstrous
Try Nolly in Periphery. Dirtier, more solid, same depth with more bulk. Equally good player. I ended up buying a Dingwall NG2 because of Nolly. Nothing like it. I love Nolly, but Swanny has much better bass technique.
A friend of mine has a dingwall, its really legit, i would buy a dingwall too if i were to buy a bass
Only problem with Dingwalls in my opinion is they're strictly workhorses. The company doesn't offer basically anything in the form of custom options. I love the design and sound, but I wish they gave the customers more options.
Those percussive strums sound so satisfying
finally an olly playthrough!
holy shit, that bass player though
That bass has so much body. Sounds absolutely massive
wish these guitars weren't so expensive
If they weren't expensive they would be cheap. Quality comes at a cost. Save your pennies. :D
@@wookiedookie7131 “if they weren’t expensive they would be cheap.” Revelation of the century
They are the top of the food chain in music..
i can't believe they're not in the band anymore. werner is p sick seen him live got no doubts about it.

I envy you. That would've a dream come true to seem them both at once!
nilesh lala it was great and they hung out afterwards
I'm sad I missed that show :(
I did see Tesseract though, albeit at a different concert
Would be cool even with just one of them! Chris B is a badass too...but can be hard to handle from what I've read.

Absolutely killing it. This is amazing music and pretty much the direction music is going. I dig it.
Those riffs even just look cool to see them play. I could watch these guys all day.
Riff gods, olly and john. Then you have the master of all Mark Holcomb. What a time to be alive
And swanny?
That was freakin' nice, man. Love it (and now want an Aristedes more than ever)
Adam Swan is an absolute beast
In all the possible ways!
Some really inspiring riffs in here.
Wow 😍 I'm in love with that guitar
Man...I love OLLY
This group is my fav.
I like this song 🤘🤘
This is so tight!
1:34 dat that mouth movement with the rhythm.
Probably from doing that while practising lol I do that too to keep weird rhythmic patterns going
Swaney makes me want to play bass so bad, why the hell do I own so many guitars?!
dude I feel the same way when watching Swan play bass, both the basslines he gets to play and just the way he is, so laid back...
just buy a bass, i'm a guitarist mainly but bass is fun as fuck
unfortunately I have a lot more else to spend on than a bass but it sure would be nice one day. My other obsession is drums, which obviously costs more and I can only play air drums to some extent so I have another dream left unfulfilled :D
I'm waiting for his signature Aristides haha
Absolutly amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Some of the coolest guys i've ever met
I love how at 2:00 olly goes into a trance. That riff grabs you for real
oh god.. that white guitar is pretty awesome!
😭😭😭😭 simply beautiful...
dat location tho :D Awesome playthrough.
This is awesome but I really love that bass tone!
Beautiful!
PLAY TROUGH it says in the title screen/plate. That is now a song name in Slunq ;) Nice quality control, guys.
Power.
Fucking sick
Masterpiece!
2:00 is my favorite part wow!!!! I wish I would have wrote that
Breath taking, watched them perform in early 2017. I've watched and listened to so many bands since the early 1970's and this band prove Darwin's theory. Perfection with a plectrum.
I played this because I thought they were playing in an ice rink.
Kanchesnes that would be fucking awesome
+Kanchesnes I actually thought the same thing haha
+Kanchesnes
Look up "Ancient Arrows Playthrough" to satisfy your guitar/ice-rink needs
Oh. It took me just now reading your comment to see that it is not in fact an ice rink.
I wish we were as good as them.. first single drops this saturday tell us what we need to do better!
adam looks like marge simpson
haha
HOMMAAAA
Damn that bass is sick
Was convinced this was played in an Ice Rink first time I saw the thumbnail
😳 Holy fuck that was awesome
I love how their eyes are closed in the first shot ahaha
Brutal Sweet
Bass sounded HUGE
Fucking beautiful song dude
Oh please can someone make a video of clips from this and clips from John Browne on the Mesa/Boogie video to make one mega gear play through vid.
This song is so fucking good they needed three different playthroughs. If only Malyan had done one....
Sick! :)
Nice!!! Great sound guys! Does it an Ibanez guitar?
Thiago Paulice no, they're both Aristides instruments.
Thank you for the answer !!!!
Tight!!
Lol the two GOATs that left
fuck yeah
All of these covers make me wish that all of the riffing was actually audible on the record. Perhaps theyll have to put out a remaster of this album someday. I'd be all over that shit.
Full disclosure: I am still very much working on my mixing ears, so I could just be wrong.
You might be deaf.
Y'all hear that kickass squeal at 3:30?
Yeah Mick Thompson Rivera Signature Box :)
dope is dope
Bass sound amazing. Just one cons, why most of the song both guitars play exactly the same notes just bas octave lower? It sounds not too much ambitious.
Nice Gojira's tattoo haha !
I'm either going to go home and play the shit out of my instruments? I might just burn every fucking one of them to❤😂
Yooooo Adam, teach me how to do that updo.
From the thumbnail picture, I thought they were in an ice-rink. Disappointed. Maybe next time guys!
Great bass tone by the way.
I've been watching this for years and didn't realize it wasn't until I read your comment 😂

what was that last bass note haha. killer vid

Does the guitar have a DI output? Don't see the cab being mic'ed
TheFreewareGamer
Bass/ DI out (warwick amp) to RME Babyface -> Cubase -> cab impulse and a little compression/limiting
Guitar/ Line out (rivera amp) to RME Babyface -> Cubase -> cab impulse
Main track Atlas/ M+S Eq/ S channel slightly lowered.
Where the microphones at?
Nikolas Wolf -> video description
howd he make the bass sound like that
Hey does anyone know what shoes olleys rocking?
wheres John?
I just noticed this sounds similar to their soing animus xd
When did they stop making basses?
The're not, they did stop making this specific bass (050) They make 4/5/6 string multiscale basses now.
Does anyone know what pedal Adam is using? Hard to tell
so one of them uses mesa and the other rivera?
what kind of guitar? not something i have seen before. I would love one.
Ricky Booby
Aristides Guitars!
what pickups are in this bass ?
Seymour Duncan jazz bass quarter pounders for five strings
When I saw the thumbnail I thought they were on an ice rink.
Fast bass player

Check it out!
DrewFish Stealing views is lame.
Adam Swan looks a lot like Aesop Rock.
The fathers of plural.
What kinda cab impulse?
what is the tuning for this song?
Mike Cast
7=Ab
6=F
5=Bb
4=Eb
3=F
2=Bb
1=Eb
lel i bet they created an impulse of the POD 4x12 T-75 and used that

Monuments are amazing but the atritis instruments are really a matter of taste :/
Daniel Pantelimon I D'Works Yeah? Isn't that the case with any instrument?
Isn't Olly dead now
He left monuments a few days ago but he's still doing solo work.
You can barely hear the bass
B string on that bass is so low I can't even hear the pitch lol
This vocalist is so much better than Andy
I'm trying to like these guys but the vocals destroy it for me
Silly vocals

Slunqmusic I hate the world
